This trip started on a quiet Sunday afternoon. I had to attend a final accounting class and head straight to the airport after class. While at the airport I checked in no lines to wait in went straight through security without delay. I managed to grab Quiznos for a late lunch. Once in the boarding area we were informed our flight would be a few minutes late.
Everything went smooth the CRJ flight was cramped and the guy sitting next to me had his overhead light on for most of the short flight so I was limited in the pictures I was able to take.
When I arrived in SFO I grabbed dinner and time flew by quick before I knew it I was boarding. One thing I like about the A320's, A319's compared to the 737's is that Airbuses usually have TV's whereas 737's usually don't. I was seated next to a drunk lesbian couple they were funny and kept me entertained for most the flight we discussed the day's football scores. Otherwise I kept myself busy with Channel 9, and a episode of the Office. We managed to fly over LA on a clear night which I got some good shots and I could hear the transmissions between Bay ATC, LA etc..

Quoting AirTranTUS (Reply 1): Very nice pictures of the large CA cities at night. One question I have is: Why didn't you take the WN nonstop?
Great report!
Thanks,
I was traveling for work since I'm military I can only choose certain airlines for certain city pairs for the SAN trip UA has a contract with the goverment on the segment I flew instead of WN. I used to fly WN until they didn't renew the contract.

Thanks for the interesting TR and great pics! I took Southwest last year OAK-RNO-OAK, had great flights.
How I love - and miss - Reno! What a great city. I used to visit all the time when Reno Air flew twice daily YVR-RNO. Those really were great flights. My visit last year was the first since 1998. It was a bit sad to see how Reno had changed, that the old Mapes Hotel had been torn down, and the old Flamingo Hotel now just a shell. At least the old CalNeva was going full tilt, I have spent many hours in that casino. I stayed at the Sands, as I always used to. Of course, the casino has changed and all the rows of nickel and quarter Double Diamond machines are gone. The fun I used to have in that casino, and the buckets of nickels and quarters I had! Thanks for bringing back the fond memories.
Cheers,

It seems that there has been a flood of people moving to Reno due to cheaper housing it has been growing. Unfortunate a couple of the hotels flopped but some have thrived Silver Legacy, Peppermil, Grand Sierra, JA Nugget come to mind. Reno has always been a great place to visit for me. I love Lake Tahoe year round its close in proximity.

Thank you for sharing

Thanks
Quoting DALCE (Reply 8): Nice report! I wish that someday also a European airline will come up with the Channel 9 idea! That is just great and interesting!
Thanks for sharing!

Makes you almost feel like your in the pilots seat.
I do like flying over the LA area at night, the lit view's below are just stunning.
Many Thanks
Mark
Quoting OA260 (Reply 11): Nice TR, loved the night photos of LA...

LA is so massive at night especially pictures don't do it justice. My camera while good didn't bring out the true contrast I was lucky to get what I had because night shots are so hard you have to be perfectly still and have all the right settings.
I forgot to mention that we had a minor MX issue after the boarding the Captain came on and said we had to change a tire on my SFO-SAN flight it was supposed to take 15 mins but was more like 20 mins.

Was the UA service overall, pretty decent?
Not all of us can be heroes, some of us can only stand on the sidewalk and clap as they go by.

Here are my last trips reports with UA in the summer sorry I didn't expound more on the service there wasn't much to write home about if you get the older 737's with the old fabric the middle seats are cramped. I know I covered more details in my older trip reports below on UA. It was a night flight and really quiet and each segment was only an hour or just over an hour. I find that the Channel 9 keeps you entertained for a long time if you dont have TV's.
BTW I deleted my old pics of the trip reports but included my web photo album link below so anyone could still see them. But the meat and potatoes of the reports is on the old posts.
UA is actuallly ok I dont know how the F or J product is, and TATL or TPAC flights. But at least we pick our seats don't expect snack service on short flights in Y class. If you fly the small Airbuses like I said you at least have overhead TV's.

Hey...great report, I flew out of SAN on UA in August, they have a pretty good operation outta there as well.....
Quoting JetBlueAUS (Reply 13): Was the UA service overall, pretty decent?
I know it wasn't a question towards me, but as an exclusively UA Y flyer, I think its sufficient for a flight from an hour to 4. My flight from ORD to SAN was very comfortable on the A320, and back was also great in the 757. The have Channel 9, and put up some good entertainment on the TV's, even on a short flight from ORD-MCI and MCI-ORD, on the 757 and A319. Even the 737's on the ALB-ORD route are in good shape.
