Hi!

This is my second trip report. My return journey from Israel. My first trip report was my flight to Israel and you can view it

here: BNE-SYD-HKG-LHR-TLV, QF And BA In Y (Many Pics!) (by InbarD Nov 29 2007 in Trip Reports)

I hope all of you enjoy reading this report or simply viewing the pics. This report doesn't have as many pics as the first trip report i made because it was a night flight and i couldn't be bothered taking more pictures because i was tired.

Here goes.

Flight number 1:
Origin: TLV
Destination: BKK
ETD: 22:10
ETA: 13:45
Flight time: 10:50
Airline: EL AL, LY
Flight Number: LY81
Aircraft: Boeing 747-400
Load: 80%

I arrived at the airport at around 8:00 pm, I wanted to get there at around 7:00 pm but it was the end of Saturday and many people travel south on the high ways, therefore there were a few traffic jams which delayed my arrival to the airport. I went to the Departure area and entered the line for the baggage screening before checking in. The lines for LY check in were amazingly small only a few people per counter for economy check in. The check in counters were quite packed last time i was in Israel. I checked in my baggage and received my LY boarding pass.

After checking in me and my brothers and his son proceeded to the area were non-passengers can still enter and there are a few cafe's and some shops. We went and bought some Macdonald's mmmm... After eating i said goodbye and proceeded through security, i then went through the long corridor going to the duty free area. I had only around 20 minutes to go look around the duty free, but it turned out to be more like 1 hour because i sat in the plane for like 40 minutes waiting for everyone to board. Anyway i went to my gate E7 and waited around 5 minutes until there was the boarding call and boarded the aircraft i then sat in the aircraft for around 40 minutes until everybody boarded and the plane was cleared to push back. While i was sitting down i took some pictures.

PTV, it was quite small but it did the job. No AVOD though.

Legroom, more then BA and QF i think.

Dinner was served shortly after take off. Choices were chicken or beef with rice and some Thai sauce, with some salad, hummus, pita and a carrot nut cake. The meal wasn't bad it was filling. After i finished eating the flight attendants collected the rubbish and i started watching a movie called The Invasion it wasn't too bad. After that i went to sleep.

Some pictures of the wing, engine and winglet with the Israeli flag on it.

I went for another short nap which was easy as me and another guy were sharing 3 seats and i used up 2 for my footrest. I woke up and just missed the warm towel service, damn it!!! I love those things they feel so good, so instead i went to the Lavatory and washed my face. Breakfast was shortly served afterwards, the meal options were either fruit salad or an ommlette with some sides which i can't remember.

Around 40 minutes before landing we started our decent towards Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. There was some light turbulence and we made a few sharp turns before we were on final flaps were lowered the gear was lowered we were ready for landing. I took the following pictures before landing.

Second before touchdown. Landing was quite smooth and as usual most of the people clapped after the landing as this was an EL AL flight.

Taxiing to the gate, it took around 10 minutes to get from the Landing runway to the gate. There was not much traffic in BKK.

Overall it was a great flight, the IFE was good the food was good and it was an enjoyable experience the LY flight attendants were nice and the service was great. I was lucky to be flying this route with a 747-400 as earlier in the year the route was operated on a 767-200ER, which has no PTV's. Still LY service was good and i recommend them.

Flight number 2:
Origin: BKK
Destination: MEL
ETD: 21:00
ETA: 10:15
Flight time: 9:15
Airline: Jetstar, JQ
Flight Number: QF0266, JQ30
Aircraft: Airbus A330-202
Load: 75%

I arrived at around 1:45 pm at bangkok and went to the transfer area to get my boarding pass. I saw no JQ transfer desk, as this was a codeshare QF flight i went to the QF transfer desk but she said i must wait until 6:30 pm, which is the time when the transfer desk opens. I went upstairs walked around, ate some duck, sat and waited until it was 6:30pm i went downstairs and waited an hour and a half until i saw a small JQ transfer sign on one of the counters, i went and collected my boarding pass at around 8:00 pm.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc275/Inbar99/InbarsIsraelTrip156.jpg

Bangkok is indeed a wonderful airport. Very modern and sharp design with all the glass and steel in the ceiling.

I passed through security and sat down in the waiting area next the to the gate. The passengers were called to board the aircraft. I entered the gate and entered the aircraft. I sat down and took some pictures. My seat was 49E and i had the whole row for my self perfect for a night flight, pity they don't give out pillows and blankets for free. It took around 20 minutes for the plane to fill up and we started to push back. There was barely any traffic so it was a short and smooth ride to the runway and we were off.

Pictures of the back of the seat. Rrrrrrrrrrrr no PTV, thats what you get for flying with a low cost carrier. It annoyed me even more because i didn't pay to fly JQ it was on Frequent Flyer points.

Dinner was served shortly after take off. I did not preorder anything so i had to by the meal which cost $15. It did not come with a drink and they cost extra and i had no more money, so the flight attendant gave me a free drink which was quite nice of her. The choices for dinner were Pork, Chicken or Veg with some Salad, bread, butter and a Kit Kat mini. I chose Pork.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc275/Inbar99/InbarsIsraelTrip161.jpg

Mid flight picture of the cabin, My bed.

I then folded all the arm rests up and went to sleep. When i woke up 4 and a half hours later i proceeded to watch an episodes of the Simpson's, on the main screen. The PTV AVOD units were malfunctioning so everybody who preordered them got a full refund.

The landing wasn't so smooth but the flight was good. Not much turbulence during the flight.

Overall i was pretty disappointed with Jetstar. I think they should at least provide a pillow and blanket for each person. But except for that i guess they are alright.

Flight number 3:
Origin: MEL
Destination: BNE
ETD: 13:05
ETA: 14:10
Flight time: 2:05
Airline: Qantas, QF
Flight Number: QF618
Aircraft: Boeing 737-400
Load: 100%

After landing at MEL i proceeded through immigration and showed them my Australian Passport and landing card. I then went to the baggage carousal to collect my luggage and went into the line which lead to the customs were i showed them what i declared. The line was quite long i stood there for about 20 minutes. After customs i went to the domestic check in and went to drop my bag off and collect my boarding pass. The lady at the JQ transfer desk in BKK gave me a Jetstar boarding pass for my QF flight but i had to get a QF boarding pass for my flight, therefore i had to check in again.

After i checked in i proceeded through security and my bag and pockets were randomly drug screened. A guy came with this stick with a piece of fabric at the end and moved it across my bag, he then put it in a machine and it found nothing. After security i went and sat down and waited for my flight to BNE.

At around 12:45 pm, 20 minutes before departure. The boarding call for my flight was announced i proceeded to the gate showed my boarding pass, the lady passed it through the machine, i then entered the aircraft and sat down in seat 10A. Whilst waiting for everyone to board i took some pictures.

A QF 737-400 and Dash-8 sitting at the gate of the domestic terminal of Melbourne Airport.

Boarding took around 10 minutes once everybody boarded the flight the plane quickly pushed back. Taxiing to the runway took 5 minutes and the takeoff was like a rocket. I love 737 takeoffs how they just get that extra thrust when they leave the ground, you can really feel it.

The meal for this flight was lunch, you had the option of a salad with salami or mayonnaise and chicken sandwich i chose the mayonnaise and chicken sandwich it was delicious. After lunch i fell asleep and woke up 10 minutes before landing. The aircraft landed from the ocean in a westerly direction. The plane was on final and made some quick adjustments, there was some strong winds at BNE. The aircraft touched down at a very high speed and it took the 737-400 quite a while to come to a steady speed for taxiing to the gates. As we landed it just started to rain.

http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc275/Inbar99/InbarsIsraelTrip171.jpg

Arrival to Brisbane, rain visible on the window.

Overall it was a great flight, even though i slept most of the time. Qantas's service is great, i recommended them.

After landing i proceeded out of the gate and met my brother outside of the gate. I headed down to collect my baggage. It took around 10 minutes for my baggage to arrive at the carousal.

Thats about it. Hopefully you have enjoyed the trip report. I'm still new to these trip reports so you may find many mistakes or notice i have left things out.

Anyway thank you for reading my report.

Any questions or comments are welcome.

Cheers, Inbar.

When i was looking at the map pics i was wondering on the routing of this trip since it was LY do you fly over Egypt and then to the red sea, over Africa out to the Indian Ocean because The fastest route ids over Saudia Arabia but I know they would not let an Isreali plane fly in thier airspace.

Also I am considering taking an LY flight to Isreal soon, was it odvious that there were armed guareds on board

Thanks for the feedback.

I didn't really bother looking for them. Air Marshals aren't allowed to sleep during the flight, so i could of simply looked for a person who wouldn't sleep and act strange i suppose plus it wasn't really obvious that there were air marshals on board.

Nice report and photo's, thanks.

Interesting to see you were disapointed with Jetstar, I think you were lucky the FA gave you a free drink!

If travelling on LCC's or US carriers I always have money with me, you never know if you might want a drink or something.

Rgds

Thanks for posting this report - very few reports out of TLV here. Anyway, hope you enjoyed your trip as well your visit in Israel.

A few details - I assume you departed from gate D7 in TLV, as gate E7 doesn't exist (yet) and LY mostly uses D gates. LY 744s do have 34" pitch in Y instead of the regular 31"-32" and the difference is noticeable.
