just flew AF iad-cdg and cdg-iad on a 777 and A340 and both of those aircrafts had ptvs although AF does not have ptvs on any of its 747s (including 744s).
the food was quite good on both of my flights. for dinner meals, they give out a menu with two choices. One is from a region in france and one is from the place you are flying from (USA). I found that the desserts were fantastic.
service on both of my flights was top rate. flight attendants were very helpful and friendly.
my flights were ontime and despite complaints by almost everyone I know about air france losing bags, all of mine arrived at their final destination

I flew the AF 747-400 from EWR to CDG last year. The service was good. Attentive. Food was edible and quite
good actually and the wine selections quite good for an
economy class flight. The seats were a bit hard and no
PTV's (only A340 and 777 have it I believe). The plane
was filthy on the outside, but clean inside and the crew
did a good job). I flew the same route this past year on
Continental, aboard the 777 outbound and the 767-400
return. Service was better, more attentive, and the
PTV's were a nice feature, not to mention the roomier
cabins but the food was average. Skimpy and not as
good compared to Air France.
