I flew Midwest Airlines from Milwaukee to Ft. Myers (RSW) about two weeks ago on Friday January 11. The flight was aboard an MD-80 aircraft which seemed in reasonable condition from the outside, but little did I know the problems that would occur on this trip. The flight was delayed by two hours due to a hydraulic issue which seemed to get passengers a bit weary (especially since this was a crowded flight). After this long issue had been resolved the airplane taxiied out to the runway and a 70 year old man got up to reach for a book from the overhead compartment. The flight attendant was very upset that this gentleman left his seat while the airplane was taxiing. He had only stated that he wanted another book to read as the delay was so long. This seemed reasonable. But then the flight attendant came back and started making unprofessional remarks to this gentlemen and antagonizing him. The 70 year-old man was not hostile in return, but the flight attendant requested the captain return the airplane to the gate to have this man taken off the aircraft. We returned to the gate and were met by four deputies who escorted the man off the airplane. Many of the passengers felt the flight attendant and crew unprofessional and stated that they would write a letter to the authorities in the 70 year-old man's defense. After that we proceeded to go back out to the runway and took off to the South. About a half-hour into the flight, the crew came on and indicated that a mechanical problem had arisen and that we would return to the airport. No way!! After all that on the ground? We returned to Milwaukee and found we had a landing gear indication problem. All the passengers were disembarked and put on another flight. We were informed that Midwest had only one daily direct flight to RSW and were put on another flight through MCI. I ended up arriving at RSW at two in the morning in Florida, fifteen hours after the scheduled departure time. I was not impressed by Midwest Airlines' service and aircraft and will consider alternatives (including ORD) to avoid this the next time I travel.

Yeah!!!! Alright!!!! Divine Intervention! You see, in the end, God does have justice in unfair situations. The landing gear indicator may not have a problem, so to speak. Why after all that they didn't search carefully? Could be a problem with an electrical circuit too? Who knows? The man did not protest, nor was he hostile. Seemed quite dignified according to your version. He just wanted a book. That book is very pricey now! Cost him the price of a ticket! But in the end, justice was truly served by the Big Guy up there!

So thats God's plan. Screwing up the day of 140 other passengers on the plane to give a nice old man poetic justice. Right.
And Corsair... Sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience on Midwest. Hopefully that kind of service is an anomaly. Its no doubt that mx issues definitely can plague the MD-80s, especially this time of year. Hopefully there will be a replacement order soon.

Wow, you don't really hear to much about YX flight attendants being cruel and nasty, usually its the other way around. But something just doesn't seem right to me...Just because some guy gets up to get a book while the plane is taxiing, the plane has to go all the way back to the gate and kick him off, and by four police officers?! That sounds ridiculous. I don't know if those really are the rules or not, but that's a really low class act by those flight attendants.
Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

Wow, that sounds like an awful experience. I'd be angry, too, if I had an experience like that. Fortunately, of the many times I've flown Midwest, I have only had very positive experiences (and no MD-80 issues), and the FA's have consistently been the best part of those experiences. This just goes to show how, in the service industry, you only have to tick someone off once for them to be unwilling to do business with you again.

Horrible. Sorry this happened to you. Fly YX a lot. Only positive experiences with YX, but don't blame you for dropping them after this nightmare. Surprised they didn't cut the elderly pax some slack. But, to stand up and get in the overhead during taxi is not a good move. With that said, in many years of flying, I certainly have seen that happen before (someone leave their seat after push back and taxi) on a variety of carriers. An FA has always bolted to the offender immediately and had them sit or called them out over the PA, but we never returned to the gate, etc. Hope I am not jinxing myself. . .

Can I get your source on this please? Any MD-80 I've ever flown has been a wonderful airplane. Like other aircraft, the MD80 WILL have problems arise every so often. The crew did the right thing, turned around, and got you to your destination, which is what they were responsible for doing. Nowhere does it say what time you WILL get there, only when you SHOULD. Are you saying that if you broke down on the side of the road in your car, you would be pissed with the car manufacturer for getting you there 15 hours later. Would you have rather gotten to your destination, only to find out that the gear would not work, and you would have landed belly up?
Dude, that is one of the worst statements I have ever read. I have flown YX TWICE, and each flight was a wonderful flight. The planes were really nice, and the crew was great. While I disagree with the actions of the crew on this particular flight, I do not think it is fair for you to call YX a "Low Standard Carrier". Especially basing that you've probably never flown them, and you probably have not done all that much research on their history.
