So I fancied a mini break to Frankfurt so I used some miles and got myself a round trip with LH in Business Class. I had not been to Frankfurt in nearly 2 years so I was looking forward to it . Whilst I was there I would take the oppertunity to visit some airline offices to obtain sales material.
FLIGHT : LH 4985
ROUTE : DUB-FRA
REG: D AILP
A/C : A319-114
NAME : CITY OF TUBINGEN
CLASS: BUSINESS
SEAT : 2A (MOVED TO 1A)
I took the coach to Dublin Airport and was there at 0520am. I proceeded to check in which was fast an efficient.
LH ticket desk
I then went through the Fast Track line and into the BMI Diamond Club.
After a while it was time to go to the C gates to board. It was very busy and a group of around 60 Italian Rugby fans were waiting to board. They had been in Dublin for the game that weekend.
I was greeted by two friendly female crew.
The crew came round the Business class cabin with pillows and blankets.
Shortly after that the pilot announced a delay of around 40 mins due to ATC slots . The crew came round and asked if we wanted a drink whilst we waited.
After a while we pushed back from the gate and proceeded to our take off position .

Hey! Thanks for the trip report to FRA! I miss the days when I could go to various airline ticket offices in New York or Chicago and have a suitcase filled with a bunch of timetables, magazines, and a whole lot of junk! Did your gate in FRA have the self-boarding line similar to MUC?
The journey of life is not based on the accomplishments, but the experience.

very nice report. I always enjoy reading about your trips.
I especislly enjoy the takeoff videos you took from the observation deck. It cool to see all the rain being kicked up!

No I didnt see them, it was a weird set up. They didnt even tear the boarding cards. They just told everyone to board. Maybe the C gate area is a prefab area.

Great Trip Report as usual OA260, nice to see a LH DUB-FRA run. Also interesting that you got a 737 on the return leg, its been mostly A319/320/321's for the past year or so.
FRA looks great, will have to take a spotting trip there this year.

Hi Philip
thanks for this report. First I've to mention that my PC was having some difficulties with it but it might have to do with so many pics and videos
Anyway, back to the topic:
Good service, although LX C class food seems to be better then on her parent LH.
Frankfurt rules for shopping We've been there last year, and it was perfect. But most large German cities are. btw, we went 1st Class on that ICE nonstop from Amsterdam Central Station, the TV screens only show 2 channels (1 newsservice, 1 from/about DB).
Question: do you collect such airline stuff or do you have other purpose for it? Otherwise I would gladly provide you with some items which I still have or can obtain for you.
When is you next trip to AMS? Aer Arrann will start service soon on the new BAe 146's
Cheers,
Eric

Hola Philip!
Thanks for another great TR.
Like Eric, my computer has a hard time loading this TR, no wonder with so many pictures and videos. Worth waiting for.
Quoting OA260 (Thread starter): I was expecting a hot lunch but it was cold !!!
Quoting OA260 (Thread starter): I like a hot breakfast but this was all cold. It was not bad though for a cold meal
Yeah! This seems to be th norm both in LH and LX in less than two hour flights. It has happened to me in all European legs flown with them: BCN-GVA, BCN-ZRH, GVA-ZRH, ZRH-TXL, ZRH-LHR, ZRH-BHX, ZRH-MXP, ZRH-FCO, BCN-FRA, BCN-MUC.... I am looking forward to fly to AGP, DUB, ATH or SKG... where hot meals are served.
Anyway LX food is always great, better than LH ad the chocolates are the end are most than welcome.
Salut!
Roger

Who knows but if I do come to AMS you will be the first to know. Maybe a day trip spotting together!!!
Quoting Rogerbcn (Reply 8): Anyway LX food is always great, better than LH
Yes I have to agree. Whilst I enjoyed my LH flights the food was a bit basic.

- Pretty poor compared to LX, plus the return meal was not impressive either, LH sure have improvements to make here.

- Glad it's not just me having problems! - Took me ages to get to this point!!

Great report, actually the city of "Tübingen" is my hometown I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip to germany. Actually it's sad, but the Terrace in Terminal 1 is closed since quite a long time now... And the missing roof in the S-Bahn-Station is also missing since almost 2 years now... Seems they will never finish building there...

I guess I'm not the only one who had trouble loading your TR...it locked up my computer and when I finally did get it loaded my computer was still very slow, and I got a message saying my virtual memory is low. It looks like others had the same problems. Still it was worth the wait. FRA is one of my favorite places for spotting. It is too bad they closed the observation gallery on Terminal 1 because that was my favorite place to go at FRA. I've made a couple trips there just for spotting only (DFW-FRA on AA 777).
Enjoyed the fancy shops. Made me feel like I was in Omote Sando (in Tokyo). Also the inside of the ICE train. If you get the chance, take the ICE for a longer ride. It's nice.
And if you ever come to Tokyo be sure to ride the Shinkansen (Bullet Train). It's even faster, especially the Nozomi Shinkansen
Not surprised with that. I have to admit I'm not a huge LH fan myself.
Quoting FLIEGER67 (Reply 13): That Nespresso bar looks cool, something interesting also for the non-aviation ones
Yes, they're wonderful. So Philip you're into Nespresso as well? One of the best investments I ever made. I did my first orders online, and only visited the Nespresso boutique in Toulouse for the first time in January. What an experience, it really is the "Luois Vuitton" of coffee. The service in the boutique was incredible. Showing me everything and explaining things as if I was about to hand over huge sums of money, then inviting me to the "café" area to have some free coffee if I wanted... and the girls working there were absoloutely beautiful!

Ha... so glad I just got a new PC, ahd no problems, but weeing the problems some of you had, it would have probably killed the laptop I'd been using exclussively until recently!

Quote: OA260: Fares are around EUR 600 return DUB-FRA-DUB so its not cheap if you had to pay.
Fares for FRA-DUB-FRA are around 1,400 EUR. I think LH offers lower fares for Irish to dig off passengers from EI or other airlines. But you are right. For a 2 hours flight you can expect a hot meal. Would you fly LH again or go by LX via ZRH next time?

Oh my god thats crazy money .
Quoting StefanPAD (Reply 19): Would you fly LH again or go by LX via ZRH next time?
I would fly LH DUB-FRA again no problems . Its the fastest way to FRA . If I needed the miles and LX had their J class specials again then I would probably go with LX Via ZRH . I would love to do F class to DXB using the FRA F class terminal......I would check in 6 hours before LOL.....
Thanks guys for all the comments. Really appreciate them . Some different TR's coming up in April/May Long haul.

I used my Casio Xlim 4 megapixles. Its a pocket camera that I got in Dubai tax free. There is a new one out with anti shake technology so you get alot less blurry photos. I want to upgrade to it soon.

That would explain why you have so many then! They small ones are very handy. For my last report (yet to be written) I used my new Nikon Dx40! Which is quite large, but is of good quality. But from now on I think I'll stick to using a smaller camera, I looked kinda daft walking around the place with this big black camera hanging around my neck.

25 SU: excellent report - it seemed that i was actually taking the flight. Thanks a lot!
26 FRAspotter: Yes they do... By the looks of it, was typical weather for Germany....
27 PlaneHunter: Very nice TR, though it took a long time to load even with my fast Internet connection. That observation deck is a joke - and they even charge money f
