Reason For Trip:

Time to head home to Perth for a little R & R and also to have my annual health check up! And, by the way , MH is Malaysian Hospitality is their new marketing slogan!

5 February 2008

Jakarta (CGK) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

Airline: Malaysia Airlines MH722
Aircraft: B737-400
Registration: 9M-MMY
1st Flight: 15 July 1993
ETD: 1820
ATD: 1815
ETA: 2120
ATA: 2100
Flight time: 2 hrs
Seat: 2F
Class: Golden Club (Business)
Cruise: 36000 feet

Pre Flight

Since its only a few days after the crazy floods which had been happened last Friday and the weekend (see my Semarang TR). I decided to leave home early to spare some extra time for any further chaos, plus, the weather has also been relentless, raining every single day. The journey itself was ok, I left home at 1500 and arrived at 1630 at the airport, 40mins longer than usual, but hey, I am not complaining as I am already in the airport. After the usual efficient MH check in, we decided to go to Starbucks to get a free bite and drink (special privileges from one of my credit cards).

Scenes from the Starbucks

How often does one see a Yemenia jet?

Coffee and Croissant!

Always nice to have some green

After that we went to use the JAS Premium lounge which was much better than the lounge MH uses which is the Puri Indah lounge.

Taxi and take off

My 1st time on board 9M-MMY. I actually forgot my pen and paper for my notes, but the efficient, kind and helpful MH f/a got me a MH writing set. B734’s are good old workhorses for MH and they are also maintained in tip top condition by MH engineering, but their age are indeed starting to show as most of their B734’s are from 1993 and 1994. Hope fully they get their new narrow body order sorted out soon.

Menu and Food

Current issue of In-flight Magazine

As usual for the 2nd last flight out of Jakarta, this bird is full in both J and Y, mainly due to day trip businessmen from KUL. Flight itself was uneventful except for turbulence all the way into KUL!

6 February 2008

Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Perth (PER)

Airline: Malaysia Airlines MH125
Aircraft: B777-200ER
Registration: 9M-MRK
1st Flight: 8 July 1999
ETD: 0940
ATD: 0940
ETA: 1640
ATA: 1605
Flight time: 5 hrs
Seat: 1K
Class: Golden Club (Business)
Cruise: 37000 feet

Pre Flight
By the time we took the Express train and checked-in at the Le Meridian, it was already 10pm, plus we met up with an old friend so by the time we had supper and chit chatted, it was already 2am. After a nice bath, it was lights out and it was an agonizing time for me to get up again at 6am. But I hit the buzzer and overslept, and so did the wife! We got up at 0715, had a quick shower and packed up, took the train and we arrived at KLIA with 1 hr to spare!

On the way to KLIA on the Express Train

Plus, the J and F check in at KLIA was shockingly full! But I noticed people around me were also checking in for the PER flight, so I decided just to patiently wait in line. Plus, I really hate to beg people to cut in front even if I am late for my flight eheheheh. After boarding passes were in hand, we just went straight to the MH Golden Lounge and had a cigarette and double expresso to wake myself up!

Scenes from the Gold Lounge, MH wide bodies ready to go! And Saudia

Getting our butts out of the lounge and start the long walk and people mover ride to the G gates where our aircraft was

9M-MRK

In Flight
Again another first for me, this time, my first time on board 9M-MRK (I always get MRI a lot on the MH’s B777’s).

J Seats

Mood Lighting

Again, there is no feeling like the welcome you get when you are aboard Malaysia Airlines! Chinese New Year songs were also being aired on the PA as its Chinese New year’s eve. This bird was docked at G gates, probably just finished doing a domestic run.

Busy KLIA in the morning

Just after lift off

When I was served my pre departure drink , I just realized MH uses proper sized glasses for their drinks and this is good, I mean I also love the mug they use for coffee or tea! Some might say it looks cheap, but to me, its nice and cozy. MH uses the same J seats as TG, but MH has much more legroom in them!

A must for every a.netter skyshow!

Menu

Select AVOD

Meal time and my all time favorite breakfast from MH, Nasi Lemak!

And to top it off, a nice glass of Teh Tarik

Just about to land, passing Rottnest Island and Freo.

Overall, another flawless and fantastic flight by MH. That’s why I love to fly them so much. I only fly TG more due to the fact that it belongs to Star Alliance. I hope MH gets into an alliance soon. When getting off the aircraft, the purser even personally shaked our hands when we got out. I know this is business class, but its all the small touches which mattered a lot, certainly these are touches missing with a lot of the airlines I fly with in J, even TG or SQ.

Yup it is,...haven't u heard of vertical rocket boosters for commercial jets? haahahha ....anyways jokes aside, when writing a long TR like this, mistakes will definitely happen, but sometimes they do come out funny like this  Smile eheheh

thanks again for reading!

It wasn't your mistake. It was shown in one of the pictures of the airshow on the PTV. Hope I can fly on one of the rocket powered 777s in the not too distant future  Wink

That would explain how come you were at FL300 after only having travelled 1 mile then. I thought there may be some mistake somewhere. Not even Concorde or the 757 could manage that rate of climb!!

excellent trip report.

to me it seems as if most Asian airlines step their game up when it comes to business class.
flying with UA or AA business class never left me the opportunity to leave the aircraft saying i had a great trip in business class.

but nice report and pics

Nice to read a trip report from you, as always, Even better to read one about MAS!

Ah... I think I might have sat at the SAME table as you several times during my SIN-JKT-SIN commutes. The checkered table by the window at Starbucks! One of the few locations to look at planes without interuption.

I have recently signed up to be a member of the Malaysian Wings forum and I have so far managed to learn so many things on top of what I already know about our esteemed dark horse - MAS. It is so sad that their MH Campaign will only be confined to Malaysian audiences because imagine what it would do with thier international standing should it be released worldwide? Sad sad sad...

I actually think it looks nice. It matches the MH theme, especially in J. CX also use mugs in J. I think its a very home-like touch.

Spot on! .. Couldn't agree with you more. You tend to normally expect what you paid for, but these additional small touches are what leave you with that special impression.

This definitely applies for my most recent EY flight to JFK. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about their competitor that i flew on my way back!  Smile Smile

Cant wait for part 2!

Eh leh... gue kerja!!! You know how work trips are like.  Smile

First flight out SIN-CGK...Bam, bam, bam, one client to another... Lunch in Kelapa Gading/Glodok (ooooh I love Super Kitchen)/Menteng, depending on where we are at that time... and bam, bam, bam, more butt kissing at other clients... Eh... MACET, MACET, MACET... Aduh... MACET lagi...The jams along the city streets really take a lot out of you as a person so I do not envy the driver, granted he is probably used to it. More bam, bam bam... Back to airport. Check self... Still alive... Check in, collapse at A&W in exhaustion as the sun sets. By this time, I am not exactly in the best of moods already as I am tired, grumpy, too tired to eat and still have to look chirpy because my boss is with me. Enter plane in concourse D (SQ) and fly home.  Sad

That is why I hate these trips. I seldom sleep on planes but I am normally out like a light on these JKT trips. Sometimes I do not even recline my seat and the next thing I know, I am being tapped in the shoulder (Sir, fish with potatoes or chicken curry with rice?). OMG, you mean we took off already?? Hahahahaha...

Anyway I have since moved on to a new job as I got poached sometime late last year by a client.  Wink

I think you deserve to see a better side of me so I will definitely call you up when I am there on a leisure trip. Hee hee...

Well being MH, there have marketing budget issues ...but to me this new campaign is already in full swing in M'sia, especially at KLIA when I pass thru there a few weeks ago. I certainly hope they will really carry this campaign out all the way around the world to strengthen their brand!

According to their marketing plans, the "This is MH" campaign for the ENTIRE YEAR will be focused within Malaysia only till 31 Dec 2008. I have stopped banging my head against the wall already because I am bruised enough as it is, angering over this brainless tactic.

Actually they are having a tender out now if I am not wrong to make a final decision between A320 family of B737 NG. It would be too long in the future  Smile ..Maybe the current B734 have another 3 to 4 years to go at the most.
