For all of you fellow Twin Otter fans out there, I have a little take off video from Vancouver Harbour if you would like to check it out. I was on the 8am flight to Victoria with 2 other passengers and the Captain and the F/O. It was a smooth 35 minute flight with virtually no chop and the Twin Otter, being lightly loaded, didn't take to long to get to altitude. I do have more of the flight and the victoria landing (which for those of you familiar with the Victoria city harbour) which is somewhat more exciting and will get that on here within the next day or two in an edited form. Hope you like it.

Awesome video! Guess you don't really need to write much else as a trip report since the video pretty much says it all! Hurry up with the other parts; I'm eager to see the landing in Victoria.

Wow. Fantastic. Vancouver is one of my favourite cities. Missed Victoria though which I understand is great to visit too.

Great video! I took a flight like this a couple of years ago. Deafeningly loud, without a doubt the loudest I've flown on.

I always think that squelching sound at 1.18 is really quite haunting!

I believe the squelching sound you are refering to is the the pilot changing the propeller pitch as they were playing with the pitch to adjust taxi speed and possibly steer as well. But you're right...the sound of the two prop doing so is quite nifty especially from the inside. This Twotter was quite loud, but not quite as much as I expected unless you compare it to the nearly silent A340 and A380 trip report video. Now those are sedate sounding birds. The engine noise (lovely P&W Can PT-6s) wasn't the big thing at altitude though; it was the wind noise. I'm not sure if it is the floats making all the noise but you can hear that wind noise kick in once they level out and get some airspeed happening. Hopefully Viking can stuff some more insulation in the DHC6-400 series coming soon. The Victoria approach is somewhat more exciting as they come in with a lot more flaps and a much higher steeper decent rate. Lovely view of YVR en route too.

Hi TwinOtter4Ever,

I am going to be in Vancouver for Holiday in May and was looking into booking a flight around the area. Could you reccomend any airlines (large or small) that do sightseeing trips from Vancouver? Thanks in advance!

Wow... nice video! I have lived in Victoria most of my life, but I still haven't taken a float plane over to Vancouver. I've taken the Helijet helicopter though, which I'm sure is just as much fun. Hope you enjoyed your time here!

Well this airline is westcoast air and they do air tours around both Vancouver and Victoria. $100 CN will ususally get you a 30min flight around town in a float Beaver. You will need 4 people min before they will go typically. However if you feel like going to Victoria you can kill two bird with one stone and they sometimes fly with less people, thentake the ferry back to the mainland to save money on the return. Some local companies that do air tours are Westcoast/Baxter air (merged Baxter has the Beaver. Westcoast has the twin otters) Harbour air (they fly turbo single Otter and Beavers) and Seaair. Most of these guys fly out of/to Vancouver,YVR seaplane base, Victoria, Nanaimo and they can do longer more expensive trips too. www.westcoastair.com www.harbourair.com www.seaairseaplanes.com ..Hope this helps.

Well I haven't been on heli-jet over to Vic either, so it's something new I'll have to try when I can afford a pleasure flight over there. I'm sure they are both equally noisy though  Wink. I did have a good time over there, though it is quite quiet there right now. Still a nice and friendly city. Lots to see and do in a small area.

Haha... for sure. In the summer the downtown core is great with all the tourism. In the winter it's pretty dead.

I found a very interesting Victoria landing over the City from the front seat. Would have loved to have been on that flight...seems like they are doing the full 7 degree pitch on this landing...
