First off, sorry about the bad quality of several of the photos...my camera sucks at taking shots with dark lighting.
Anyway, We had a 6 hour layover in JFK after our DL flight from TPA. We knew that check-in probably wouldn't open for another couple of hours but we decided to go over to T8 anyway just to check the status of our flight even though we
were almost positive it would be on time, since the T7 had been sitting there practically all day. The terminal was almost completely deserted except for a few domestic flights.
9W Check-in:
AA Check-in:
After making sure our flight was on time, we realized that T8 has pretty much nowhere to sit and no place to eat before clearing security. WONDERFUL especially since we couldn't check in for another 2 hours. Then we remembered that all of the shops and restaurants in T4 are before security, so we decided to go there and get a bite to eat.
T4:
When check-in opened, we went back to T8 and checked in without a problem.
Our T7:
An AA T7 prob to LHR:
Boarding was organized enough and we entered through door L2 and walked through the Premiere cabin, which looks extremely comfortable.
Airline: Jet Airways (India)
Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER
STD: 19:00
ATD: Nearly on time
Reg: VT-JEB
Departure Airport: JFK (KJFK)
Arrival Airport: BRU (EBBR)
Seat: 38A
Load Factor: 50%
Huge LCD PTV's:
Cabin:
Forward view:
The American captain welcomed us aboard and gave some information about our route to BRU and we should expect a mostly smooth flight and an on time arrival.
Taxi to the 31L was long and we waited about 15-20 min in line for takeoff, which is not bad for JFK compared to my AF flight 2 years ago when we waited for about an hour and a half. Immediately after departure, we made that typical sharp bank to the left.
The advanced air show called iXplor then automatically switched on which was much better than the older moving map display:
We were in the mid-section of economy:
The IFE was then switched on, which is called JetScreen. It's definitely not ICE but it's still AVOD and keeps you entertained enough:
Then for meal service the mood lighting was switched on, which is very nice:
I forget what the choices were but it was some kind of fish or chicken. I chose the chicken, which was very good:
After the meal service, the mood lighting changed for an orange color to a blueish color which was easier to sleep in I guess.
Sun begins to rise:
For breakfast, I think they just gave us bread, yogurt, and fruit.
Legroom:
Then the T7 began its descent into BRU with some spoilers used

Thanks for the report!
Was the service on board up to par? Some of the recent intl J reports have suggested that the crews inexperience shows up fairly soon - I wonder if that came through in Y as well?
Would you fly them again - say if you had to choose them vs. SQ or EK on the same itinerary with the same total travel time?

Nice and interesting report. I am planning to use 9W for my NYC bound flights in the upcoming future, to try their inflight service, to fly tbe B77W again, and to avoid the stupid Dutch environmental taxes. So, your report showed me what to expect then

I am impressed by the breakfast from New York to Brussels. On most airlines you now get just one croissant / danish except for Iberia which is very generous.
What was the load like from Brussels? If I am correct they are going to participate in the American Airlines frequent flyer program or I may be mistaken.

Quoting AznMadSci (Reply 5): Any bit of info on your UDR flight?
I was actually planning on writing a report on that because the flight ended up turning back to DEL. Apparently, there was an accident at UDR where an aircraft (not sure of the type) blew its tires on takeoff/landing and skidded off the runway.

The service was good but was not "above and beyond" like on some airlines. The cabin crew were friendly and they did their job, but nothing else. They disappeared between meal services. It was Y class so I can't really complain that much. I wouldn't call the cabin crew inexperienced, but everytime a cabin announcement was made, it seemed like they were reading from a script, which they probably were, because the cabin announcements on each flight were the EXACT same. I don't know if this is common, but i've never noticed it before.

Against EK, I would definatly chose 9W as their Y config is 3-3-3 instead of EK's 3-4-3 in their 77W's. I've never flown SQ but It seems like it would be hard to resist them.....those SQ girls are definitely not bad looking at all lol.

Quoting AlexEU (Reply 12): Was BRU, only a technical stop, or were there some pax whose final destination was BRU ?
Pax can have the final dest as BRU and pax can originate in BRU. I think their reason for the stop is so people can transfer over to other 9W flights to BOM and MAA if they aren't going to DEL

Hi there,
nice job getting the B773ER! I think Jet Airways has a great foodoffer in economy and I'll definitely try them out.
It's also nice to see that Jet Airways has their B773ER back and that they are sending it to BRU again.
Keep up with the good work!
Kindly regards,

Thank you, it's nice to get replies to old TRs. But yes, I highly recommend 9W! I am convinced they have the most comfortable long-haul Y Class seats in the world.

Nice report - thanks for writing it up.
Never experienced mood lighting. Did it help with jetlag like they advertise it is supposed to do? I hate how brutal it feels after a long dark flight when the full (non-mood) cabin lighting is turned on for meal service.
Quoting MHTripple7 (Thread starter): not sure why we have to re-clear security since we already did it in JFK but whatever.
Many airports will make you do this, even if you don't leave airside - LHR and IAD both come to mind. I guess many countries only "trust" their own security procedures and regulations.
