Hello everybody

Exactly one week ago I returned from the United States. I had the great possibility to work for an international moving company for a couple of weeks.

Everything began on July 9th: I arrived at Basel-Mulhouse airport very early (we do all love to hang around on airports, don't we?). Check-in at Lufthansa was very crowded, so Crossair helped to check-in Lufthansa passengers. I'm always amazed how many passengers Lufthansa flies in and out of Basel! Swissair should take more care about Basel and they should give us back our Newark flight!! I checked in my bags at the Crossair/Swissair counter and went to my gate. Then I boarded Swissair flight SR3965 operated by a Crossair Avro RJ100. What a cute aircraft;love to fly on it everytime. The leather seats were very comfortable and we got a drink before departure. We pushed back and the captain announced that today's flight will only last 15 minutes due to good traffic. He also anounced that the first officer is going to fly the aircraft. The cockpit door was still open and I enjoyed the view. We started our engines and taxied out to runway 16. The flight was booked out and most of the passengers connect in Zurich. As we were taxiing, a Korean Air Cargo 747-400 was departing. Our captain told us to look out of the left window and he anounced: "This aircraft is not very noisy for it's size." Then an Air France Airbus was departing to Paris-Orly. Soon it was our turn and we departed into the cloudy Swiss sky. We had a direct departure, which means that we maintained runway heading (usually you make a right turn right after departure on runway 16). I saw downtown Basel and the suburb Muttenz (where I live) with its huge train station. We flew over the Fricktal region and over the Bötzberg (hill). We had some delicious Swiss chocolate and then we approached Zurich airport and landed on runway 14. We taxied for about 15 minutes (remember: flight time was only 15 minutes) and parked the aircraft in the maintenance area.
I connected in Zurich to Swissair flight SR100 to New York John F. Kennedy. It was a MD-11. We boarded and economy and business class were full, don't know about first. We taxied to runway 16, a SR A-330-200 was taxiing behind us. We departed and turned left immediately. We had a good view of Zurich airport and i saw the A-330-200 departing. We left Switzerland and crossed the Atlantic Ocean at about 60 degrees north. Food on Swissair is always a pleasure. They give you usually a choice between meat, chicken and pasta and you can drink wine for free even in economy class. I had a few cokes and watched the movie "Antitrust" (unfortunately SR has no PTV's on the MD-11). We reached Newfoundland and Nova Scotia and we had a good view of Boston when we approached JFK. We touched down and arrived at the new international terminal which is very nice. It was a very good flight and I like the MD-11 very much!!

I worked for 3 weeks in Burlington, N.J. and in Virginia. Then my company send me to Dallas. My flight was from Washington National airport to Dallas/Ft.Worth on American Airlines flight AA2019. Aircraft was a MD-80. When I waited at my gate our captain arrived and had a chatted with all passengers. He wanted to know where we are all flying to and what we are going to do at our destination. Very nice!! We departed and it was raining pretty hard. When we boarded the flight we had to grab a Bistro-bag. That was our meal. Flight attendands only served drinks during the flight. But you have a lot of legroom on AA and that was great. We arrived at DFW after about 2.5 hours. That is a huge airport! Oh my god, it was so hot in Dallas (and not only the weather...)

After a week I departed on AA flight AA2244 to Chicago O'Hare on an MD-80.
Service was the same like on my flight from DCA to DFW. We touched down at ORD in front of the international terminal. SR, SN, TAP,TK A-340 and a lot more.

One week later again I departed on AA flight 1534 to Philadelphia on a MD-80 again. When we taxied to the runway our captain received the message that they closed all airports on the East Coast because of a thunderstorm. We taxied then to a holding area. A lot of planes were standing there and we had to wait for more than an hour. When we departed we saw downtown Chicago and Lake Michigan! We arrived in Philadelphia 2 hours late. A lot of US Airways planes there and a BA 777.

Time to go back to Switzerland! July 15th: Swissair flight SR103 from JFK to ZRH, Airbus A330-200. It was a very nice flight, only 6 hours and 35 minutes, very good service and PTV's. We left JFK on time. NY departures at night are always something special. We began our approach into Zurich over France. The cities of Mulhouse and Basel with the airport were seen. For the first time I noticed something outside of Mulhouse. A huge factory! It is the Peugeot car factory. We landed in Zurich almost one hour earlier than scheduled on runway 14 and man I can tell you, that was a smooth touchdown. People were applauding and I left the plane. I connected to my flight to Basel-Mulhouse on a Crossair RJ100, flight LX966. We had a drink (OJ,champagne or water) on the ground and departed a little bit late due to heavy traffic. Flight time was 30 minutes and we started our approach over the city of Delémont. We left Switzerland (it is a domestic flight!) and we were again over the city of Mulhouse. We flew a circle around the Peugeot car factory (!) and landed on Basel's runway 16. After us a Crossair Saab 2000 and an Air Algérie B-727 were landing. We left the plane and went into the new terminal. They opened the new terminal just a couple of weeks ago and I must say that this is a beautiful thing.

Hope you enjoyed reading my trip report. Comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

Hey RJ100
Excellent trip report. I enjoyed reading very much. Looks like you had a great time in the US and great flights. Crossair and Swissair are extremly good airlines. I like both very much. But for flying to the USA Swissair is the best choice I think. But it is amazing what Crossair is offering to their passengers on a such short flight.
Yeah, Dallas airport is very big and so crowded if you compare it to ZRH. I like AA very much, but the bistro service sounds a bit bad. On my Seattle-Dallas flight we had normal breakfast from the tray.
I'm looking forward on my ZRH-JFK flight by the end of september. I already heart that the flights are already full. So swissair is a good choice for everyone.

Thanx a lot!
I'd like to see the new terminal at BSL once from inside...it must be so fantastic.

MD-11 one way, A330 the other way...

Ok, which was better?

I flew SR103 last year on an A330; great AC; great service.

I liked the A330 better. SR has PTV's on them. It's just a wonderful aircraft.
