So here we go, I've got 2 other trip reports ready to go but some camera issues are slowing me down. So for now here's yesterday's return Toronto to New York. I had to go for a quick meeting so AM in and PM out seemed like the best scenario. I have one of Air Canada's Flight Pass products so there is no fare difference for same day trips.
Trip Report: 2
Date: Apr 18, 08
Flight: AC 702 - YYZ -> LGA
Seat: 13K
Aircraft: A319
Load: 75% C 95% Y
Not too many pre-boarding photos as I was running right on time and managed to grab a coffee in the lounge and show up at the gate for last call. Perfect timing if you ask me! I checked FlightStats and it seemed that LGA was ok in terms of ground delays so that was a good way to start the day. As many A.netters who happen to go to LGA you can end up on the ground from 1 to 2 hours at either end of your trip because of ground delay.
But this time, no such issues.
We were greeted by the not-overly happy, not-overly bitter flight crew. It was early, but not so early. Maybe they knew the AVOD was down!
777 headed somewhere in the USA probably based on the gate number.
Seat pitch... for one hour, who can complain...
The announcement comes during pushback that the AVOD will be down. They are sure to point out that the captain didn't want to wait around since the flight is so short. I must say that I was very happy to hear that someone made a smart decision for once.
Two unique liveries: the 65th anniversary (circa 2002) Canadian Flag and a Star Alliance Air Canada Jazz CRJ... I'd never seen the CRJ before, looked funny to see the Star Alliance look on such a small airplane.
My first rolling takeoff at YYZ in several years! I can't believe how dead it was...
What's left of the old terminal 2.
A couple take off pics...
Inflight service was only your basic beverage service and some sort of healthy cookies. You can't expect anything else... at least they continue to have milk for coffee.
Ski anyone?
I'm still 0 for 70+ on the moving map working...
Approach into LGA past everyone's favourite jail...
One of the smoothest landings of all time at LGA. I was going to compliment the pilot on the landing and leaving with no AVOD but alas he was locked away upon deplaning. All in all same old same old.
Date: Apr 18, 08
Flight: AC 725 - LGA -> YYZ
Seat: 15K (Exit row)
Aircraft: A320
Load: 90% C 99% Y
When in New York I always recommend to everyone they use Dial 7 to get to and from places that aren't on Manhattan. 212-777-7777. $31 from LGA to Manhattan and $38 back, if you're going during rush hour it is guaranteed to save you money as there is no running meter. You need to book in advance is all. But worth it.
I got to the airport early and managed to snag a standby ticket on a flight that was leaving in 20 minutes versus waiting 70 minutes for my actual flight. Pleasant surprise at the desk, got an exit row PLUS the aisle! Things were looking up. The departure time of the flight I had switched to was 7:15pm vs 8:30pm for the other flight.
Air Canada Gate Zoo at LGA
Boarding normal and quick, nice and happy young flight crew (for a change). The aircraft was loaded 7 minutes before actual pushback... but then the dreaded announcement, we were number 30+ for departure and we were actually still stuck at the gate waiting for other movements behind us, it could be 1 to 2 hours before we could depart. Thanks LGA! Way to book your slots too full.
In any case I was dozing in and out for the next hour and a half while we waited in a hot tin can with the AVOD turned off (but working). I woke up when we were number 6 for take off which was around 8:30pm.
Technically our flight was only 26 minutes late gate to gate. Much better than my original flight which landed 53 minutes late... phew!
Drink service, quick flight, quiet immigration.
Once my flight pass expires I may try Porter to EWR but I don't know how I feel about clearing immigration in the US. I should have a NEXUS card by then which should make things easier but who really knows...

Quoting JAGflyer (Reply 4): That is not a 777. It's an A321. They do not fly the 777 to the US, plus the 777 has a much bigger wingspan/engines/fuselage.
Mea culpa!
I didn't have a coffee yet and I thought that it was a little further away. I have much to learn in the world of spotting!

Great TR.
The pics are really good.
As mentioned that is a A321. The 777 is much bigger.
