Frontier Airlines - Operated by Lynx Aviation
Flight # 3487 Seat # 19F Date: Sunday, May 11, 2008
Aircraft: DeHavilland Q400 Registration: N506LX
Speed: 343 Kts. Altitude: 24,000 Ft.

Scheduled Departure: 1:14 PM CDT
Actual Departure: 1:05 PM CDT
Sioux City Gateway Airport, Iowa (SUX)

Scheduled Arrival: 1:59 PM MDT
Actual Arrival: 1:36 PM MDT
Denver International Airport, Colorado (DEN)

I am flying on Frontier Airlines on their last full day of service from the Sioux City Gateway Airport. While checking in, the gate agent informed me that the flight would be full, however I was lucky and have the last row on this Q400 to myself. Going through security at SUX was somewhat reminiscent of the airport’s code. They started the screening process by calling the flights, instead of allowing you to go trough at any time. It so happened that Northwest Airlink had a flight to MSP scheduled at the same time. They screened the NW passengers, and then later Frontier’s. This meant that a large line was suddenly created, and there were about 20 passengers still waiting to be screened when the flight started boarding.

All the Frontier personnel were very helpful and friendly. When I commented to the flight attendant upon boarding that this is their last full day of service (they have one morning flight going out tomorrow morning, a turn around of tonight’s last flight to SUX), she told me she never got the opportunity to buy a “Fly SUX” pin, since they were sold out. Obviously, Sioux City is making the best of their somewhat unusual airport code.

The departure was very gentle, with the weather being a beautiful spring day, with clear skies, low winds, and temperatures in the low 60’s. Departure was to the north, with a southwesterly turn over downtown Sioux City, with a view of three states; Iowa, Nebraska and the southeastern point of South Dakota. Cabin service started ten minutes into flight, and beverages were offered, with service from the front and the rear.

We started to make our descent around Sterling, Colorado. After a quick descent, we landed towards the south, and pulled into our gate. Disembarking the passengers was quick, and we were in the terminal in no time at all!

Scheduled Arrival: 6:49 PM MDT
Actual Arrival: 6:32 PM MDT

We boarded this flight fifteen minutes before scheduled departure, and still managed to back out of the gate two minutes early! What a short flight this was, with a southernly heading on departure, and coming in directly towards the south out of Denver. The right side of the aircraft had a beautiful view of Pikes Peak upon arrival. Due to the short duration of the flight, there was no in-flight service. There were quite a few bumps, being a warm spring afternoon on Colorado’s front range. These two flights were my first ones on Frontier’s new Lynx Aviation division, and I look forward to many more to come.

Good TR.

How was LX's overall service?

Not all of us can be heroes, some of us can only stand on the sidewalk and clap as they go by.

LX's inflight service was just as good as Frontier's mainline. Friendly, efficient and professional, I did not see any deficiencies whatsoever!

From reading they sounded excellent. You don't get that too often on a regional.
