After a late night in Istanbul time to get a taxi to the airport for the flight home.

DATE : 06MAY2008
FLIGHT : TK 1979
ROUTE : IST-LHR
A/C : A321
REG: TK-JRA Named Kutahya ( A City in Western Turkey ) Delivered to TK on 13JUL2006
CLASS : BUSINESS
SEAT : 4A

As I entered the terminal building all passengers and their luggage were screened.

I proceeded to the Business Class check in

After that it was time to go through security control.

After some shopping time to go to the Business Class lounge

As soon as I entered it was very different from any lounge I have been in before.

It was very impressive indeed.

A traditional Turkish Breakfast buffet

Tea / Salad,Olives and natural yoghurt. Was delicious .

The items I bought . Almond cookies are my favourite. We have them in Greece and they are called a similar name
( Kourabiedes )

After a while time to leave the lovely lounge and head to the gate .

As I boarded I was greeted by a friendly crew.

I noticed the seats were alot wider than some of the other similar J class seats on LH and LX.

View to Economy Class section

Pre take off Champagne

A Martinair container !! Also the Evil Eye to ward of all evil !!! Another Greek/Turkish custom.

Aerial map of Attaturk Airport IST

After take off pre breakfast drinks . I went for Cherry Juice  Smile

Then time for breakfast

The breakfast was really nice. The main course was smoked Turkey and toast with Scrambled eggs.

Windsor Castle

After arriving I had 4 hours to kill to I decided to take the free bus to Hatton Cross to do some spotting. Something I rarely get the oppertunity to do these days . It was a warm Sunny day and I was really enjoying it. I also knew that the A380 was due to take off so I was hoping to see it fly for the first time.

A new airline to LHR !!

Missing its tail .

Finally the A380 heads to the runway

A380 TAKE OFF VIDEO

Boeing 747 TAKE OFF VIDEO

After the grand finale ( A380 ) which was for me totally the highlight of the day spotting it was time to get the bus back to Terminal 1 .

Works going on in the departure area

Some photos taken from the BMI Diamond Club lounge

US Airways A330

Some more photos taken while making our way to the runway

Olympic Airlines A340

Before I flew on the LHR-IST I went online and ordered this model A340. It was delivered to me on the LHR-IST flight by the crew. Great value for EURO 10 !!! Also pride of place on my shelf now.

So thats the end of my TK report. I have to say it was a great trip. Service and crew get 10/10 . I will certainly fly Turkish Airlines again and they are a great addition to the Star Alliance group.

İyi şanslar Türk Hava Yolları

I appreciate all your feedback and comments as usual

Hi Phil
Thanks for posting another very enjoyable TR. Was well worth waiting for.

Quoting OA260 (Thread starter):
Service and crew get 10/10

If only a certain Irish airline( & im not talking about FR  Wink ) had as good a crew as good as TK.

Ive seen a couple of A380s on the ground at TLS from thirty something thousand feet so i'll have too see one up close & personal to really appreciate the beast  Wink

Any more trips planned in the near future?

I really enjoyed this report and your outbound one. Both were excellent reads. Isn't it a bit of a novelty to have a Greek guy flying on a Turkish airline  Wink. All jokes aside, TK look like an excellent airline that I must try fairly soon. That lounge in IST looks really interesting. Also, being able to earn BD miles with them now makes it even better. How much was this biz class return if you don't mind me asking? Just wondering what sort of fares I could expect to pay with TK in business.

Thanks again for the great pair of reports. Keep up the good work!!  bigthumbsup

Gareth

That lounge!  eyepopping

It looks like Versailles - or Imperial Russia  ziplip  I have never seen anything like it at an airport - such a difference between that aesthetic and, say, SAS for instance!!

Not quite my taste, but then it takes all sorts, I suppose!

There are so may things common to the former Ottoman Empire - but what's comical is that each claims ownership of it - you'll get a funny look if you try ordering a 'Turkish Coffee' in Thessaloniki (birthplace of Ataturk) and I have no idea if 'Lokum' is a Turkish word of Greek origin, or if 'Loukoumi' is a Greek word of Turkish origin - maybe you know OA260??

Anyway, at Larnaca airport they avoid the whole thing by selling it as "Cyprus Delight"  Big grin

What a great trip report - this and the outbound were top-notch and the pics are amazing!

Thanks for the reports,
Someone correct me but recently it was announced that the lounge is going to get a makeover. I really like it, well I am always for anything that doesn't look safe. Maybe the new look will have even bolder colors, and textures.
The J load looked very light on the flight.

WOW the IST international terminal has changed a lot since I was last there a couple years ago.
Thank you for posting this wonderful TR and I enjoyed your pictures a lot. The food and service look great and I'm glad I'm not the only one that loves the cherry juice. I'm glad you had a great flight with TK.  Smile

Hi Philip,

As usual a very detailed and topnotch report! I really enjoyed reading it, and looking at yr pictures.
Also great to had the chance to see the 380 at LHR, and to see the BA 777 G-YMMM without her tail.
I liked the TK 321, it sure looks very nice!

Hola Philip!

Thanks again for another great TR.

IST looks a really nice airport and your pictures and comments make me want to fly through it when going East.

The lounge is simply amazing... what a difference from the LH lounges I am used to. It is certainly not the way I would decorate my own space but finding this in airport today is something really astonishing to say the least.

Salut!

Roger

Dough I really like SK's "IKEA" lounges, it is nice to see something totally different!

OA260: Does * A Gold have access to that lounge as well??

Thanks for another great report, and I must say that your Casio (and you of course) take great quality pictures Big grin

Great report Phil, really enjoyed it!

That lounge is very different, not sure I personally like it but you can't say its boring. When I first saw the photos of TKs cabin I hated it but the colours actually go very well and it's different from the usual blues and blacks.

Nice photos from Hatton Cross, the weather was very good last week, shame I can't say the same about this week though.

Thanks for sharing

These lounge at IST looks really like something special, not the usual design here in Western Europe.

Great pix, also from your time at LHR.

The meal presentation on TK is brilliant. Simple, yet modern.

Excellent spotting pics! Was that Royal Jordanian parked behind Iran Air in the picture?

Also the Evil Eye to ward of all evil !!! Another Greek/Turkish custom.

Yes, a very common tradition in the Middle East too. However, a very nice touch on TK's part!

I'm very glad you posted these couple of TK reports. I already love them  Smile Too bad they are not Oneworld haha.

Thanks a lot for sharing!

you made very good photos and presented a great product, well actually I hope somebody of TK read it as this is some kind of add for their Business Class.
I like the blue/turqoise seats on their A32x, they are comfortable and fresh looking.

thanks for sharing Phil, good job!

I have to admit I loved it !! Something different and very Eastern. I wouldnt want my home decorated like that as Im more of a minimalist guy when it comes to my home interior. I emailed a pic of the lounge to my mate and he laughed and said it looks like his Mums living room in Lahore LOL....I guess its like a yellow car !! Works well in the Med but looks not so good in other places where you have no sun . Each to their own.

Hi Philip,

Really enjoyed reading both your TK trip reports - thanks for putting them together and sharing some great photos and video clips. The business class product looks really good quality for a relatively short flight, especially those A330 seats. Nice to see such friendly service too.

Good call with the A380 at LHR on your return - I passed through T5 yesterday morning and just as we were driving up the ramp towards the departures drop-off zone, it flew passed almost at eye-level, touching down on 09L - incredible sight!

Best wishes, Khaleej777
