Had some Eurobonus points to spare as they were about to expire. In addition had my brother started to study in Bergen decided to visit him for a weekend. Easiest route would usually to choose the direct SAS flight CPH-BGO, but on my way to BGO I decided to fly CPH-KRS-BGO for 3 reasons:

1. I had never flown with SAS' Q400
2. I had never flown Fokker 50
3. I had never flown to/from Kristiansand (KRS)

Had business tickets CPH-KRS-BGO and an economy ticket BGO-CPH. Although I had C-class tickets, did I know SAS didn't have C-class on intra-Scandinavian, so I was seated in Economy Extra CPH-KRS, and Norwegian domestic routes are economy only.

Route: Copenhagen - Kristansand
Airline: Scandinavian Airlines
Flight Number: SK2880
Aircraft: Bombardier Dash-8-Q400
Registration: LN-RDQ
Seat: 1A (Economy Extra)
Distance: 400 km
Duration: 55 mins
Date: 12th October 2007

I feared for a while that my plan would be spoiled as just a few weeks earlier, 2 Q400 had crashed during landing, forcing SAS to ground their Q400 fleet. But a few days before my trip, they had put them back into traffic (only to finally cease their Q400 operations when the third Q400 crashed during landing)

Had checked in using the Internet the day before and had secured seat 1A on both flights. Went through the Fast Track security as Economy Extra passengers are entitled to, and into the SAS Business Lounge. Even though I was sitting in economy extra, my ticket was technically a C-class ticket, hence with lounge access. Had some light lunch, before boarding by bus begun. Was I few passengers who weren't too happy about a Q400 flying this flight, but I didn't mind

Service quickly began at this short flight and got one SAS' standard lunch boxes with a small sandwich that you get in economy extra on intra-scandinavian flight. ......and of course did I opt for Champagne.....Nicolas Feuillate which is SAS' standard Champagne unless you fly intercontinental business class  champagne

He he... the picture is quite blurry, put that orange sheet is the cabin emergency check list for the Q400....frequently used by SAS that fall  stirthepot

Landed at sunny KRS on time and collected my luggage to take it through customs as this must be done at the point of entry in Norway, unlike UK and Denmark where it takes places at your final destination

Route: Kristansand-Bergen
Airline: Scandinavian Airlines
Flight Number: SK2345
Aircraft: Fokker 50
Registration: LN-RNG
Seat: 1A (Economy)
Distance: 284km
Duration: 55 mins

LN-RNG is one of SAS Norway's 2 white Fokker 50 and they have been like this for 4 years and these two have never been painted in the new SAS livery, unlike the 4 other Fokker 50 in their fleet.

Departure on time and the flight looked full. Not much service on board, but I got a cup of tea and enjoyed the view of a sunny Southern Norway. The leg space in not the best even in row 1

Flying SAS' Fokker 50 is quite retro and those of you familiar with SAS should get memories about the late 80s early 90s and SAS' so called Euroclass when looking at this photo

After two days in Bergen was there time for my return to Copenhagen. Had checked in in the net the day before and noticed the plane had been changed from a Q400 as originally intended to an MD-82

Route: Bergen-Copenhagen
Airline: Scandinavian Airlines
Flight Number: SK2869
Aircraft: MD-82
Registration: SE-DIK
Seat: 15F (Economy)
Distance: 680km
Duration: 1hour 30 mins

Quite crowded at BGO this afternoon and it doesn't help the airport is a mess, definately not build for today's traffic volumes. Both boarding and push back begun a little late, and had found my way into my seat at 15F. Quite light load on this flight and had the 3-seater for myself.

Bought a muffin and a Stout from their buy-on-board before I slept until the seat belt sign came on and the crew started to prepare for landing in CPH

Landed almost on schedule, but there was a chaos in the luggage reclaim in CPH. First of all was it very crowded, but to help it did the info screens live their own life, but after a while my bag finally arrived at the carousel and I could take the train into the town

Well, now they only have Fokker 50's, but they were actually the launch customer for the Q400. Way back when, that is...

Cheers
Mats

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

Nice little report on SK

btw, you had better done taking the C-class tickets on your return flight instead. I guess the service on the MD-80 and the longer flighttime would have been much better?  Wink

Cheers,
Eric

Actually not, the service would have been identical as both would be intra-Scandinavian flights. Only different would that that I would have had more time to enjoy the food and the drink

Nice report and pictures, thanks for sharing.

Nice to see you took a longer route to get new airctraft types, always a sign of an aviation enthusiast  Smile

Bad news about SAS's problems with the D84, though nice to see more will join the fleet in the future, they are nice planes on which to travel.

Regards

Mark
