Sorry just saw that half the report wasnt posted. Here is the rest! Enjoy!
Now for all those who think that AAs seat is already outdated I would ask you to reconsider. This seat is really, really comfy and a great improvement from the last seat. I use to love the old seats but now these are awesome! Ok you may think that AA has but in an already outdated product but I think that’s a big NO! Ok it’s not a horizontal lie flat bed but I think that if you have that in business class then why have a first class!! Yes BA may be better, yes SQ have awesome service but you must remember that this is not BA or SQ! It’s AA! To me this is a great service that AA have and I wouldn’t change a thing for it!
Ok rant over. Back to the TR.
I had a bit of a walk to the flagship lounge but it wasn’t a big deal as I had plenty of time before my next flight and the flight was going to be departing right beside the lounge so it wasn’t going to be a long walk!
The flagship lounge to me wasn’t that big a thing apart from the free alcohol and nice little dinner set up they had. Only main problem was the view! There was none! I had a small bit of salmon and some sausage thing and a corona light (my first of the type and not bad!)
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200094.jpg
A nice bar selection tonight!
I sat in the lounge for around an hour and soon 7:30 departure came along so I made my way out to the gate even though there wasn’t an announcement yet for the flight.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200001.jpg
An interesting airline that I have never seen here before. Anybody tell me where they are operate to?
Soon the First class was announced to board and separately from business class! (MIA people don’t do this) and I was the first to make my way down the Air bridge to the aircraft!
AA flt 46.
ORD-LHR
Dep: 8:15pm
Arr: 10:00am (next day)
Acft: B772
Seat: 1J
I made my way to my nice flagship suite! Gotta love this seat! It is the only seat on any airline that actually can swivel to face the window and make a workstation or swivel it so that it can be put into its lie-flat bed seat.

My seat 1J.
Soon I was greeted by a flight attendant who was a Japanese lady who I can’t remember her name and offered me a glass of champagne and gave me my amenity kit shoe-bag. After a while the purser who again I can’t remember her name but she was fantastic and very chatty and we enjoyed a long talk as she offered me a menu for tonight’s flight and also the selection of tapes on board this aircraft (this was one of the older ones with the old biz seats and not the AVOD). Soon another man joined us onboard but then for a while no one came on board and soon after having a chat again to the purser, I found out that boarding had been stopped as maintenance were fixing door 2R as there seemed to be a problem with the slide or something along those lines. However it gave me time to have a chat to our flight attendants and found out that our purser was from San Diego and commuted to where she was needed! She also was talking about that AA had a big announcement that was to come out in the press soon and didn’t know what it was about (seemed to be the one about cutbacks and withdrawing some of the MD80s). Soon boarding had begun again and all 9 of the First class passengers were soon seated and getting comfy in their seats.

A view from my seat. Actually chose this seat from Seat-guru as they said it offered good window views which I can say was very true!
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200007-1.jpg
Looking forward in my seat.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200009-1.jpg
A look at seat 1D which remained empty for the whole flight.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200011-1.jpg
A view out of my window looking at one of those powerful Trent engines!
8:15pm came and went and we were still at the gate for another 20 minutes. Soon the captain came on and explained that because we had a maintenance issue (which was now resolved) we had to wait till the paper work was signed and then we would make our way out. He also said that this delay wouldn’t really hurt our arrival time as he flight time was only going to be 7 hours and 20 minutes! Must be a record for a ORD flight I thought! I was also kind of disappointed as I wouldn’t get as long time as I was expecting in my seat! Oh well!
We made our late push back and soon made our way to the northern part of the terminals for our departure. However there was a problem with the Safety video so the crew would have to do a manual demonstration. This was going to be interesting as we were soon out near our runway and our captain was told so he got a place to pull over just short of our runway. Soon our purser was rushing through the safety demonstration so we wouldn’t miss the slot for departure. However in her rush to get the cabin ready for takeoff she missed out the masks part! We began to move up and then the crew all began to panic a bit and soon the mask part was done as we began our entry onto the runway! It was a mad panic really but soon all the flight attendants were sitting down as the aircraft began to roll! A close shave!

We soon made a quick climb out of the Chicago and headed East over the city and its beautiful lights.

Chicago at Night!
After our late departure our arrival time was still showing for 10:00am on the maps. Soon the service began and I asked the purser for a Jake and Coke and asked if she may have needed one after that little hiccup! We had a little laugh and she said that was not going to be her day as she already had problems today with her computer at home!
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200024-2.jpg
Ah relaxing now before the start of the meal service.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200023-1.jpg
It was a full moon tonight and I had this lovely view for most of the night of the rising moon.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200025-1.jpg
Soon the meal service began with some warm nuts and a marinated cheese antipasto.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200026-2.jpg
A view of my PTV which has the VCR controls on at the moment and also another look at the moon.

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200028-2.jpg
A view of the older map. Looks more like a cartoon compared to the one I had on the 767 earlier on today.
Soon the purser came up and began setting up my table to get ready for the dinner service.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200029-2.jpg
Love this very nice crockery. The purser also made very sure that the logos were all facing up and towards me. Very nice touch and shows that they care on presentation also.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200030-2.jpg
Appetizer: Smoked Salmon and Tarragon Shrimp. Could have been accompanied with capers and red onions. I opted just for the salmon and shrimp. Also was served with little toast points.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200032-2.jpg
Salad: Fresh Seasonal Greens with a choice of summer squash, artichoke hearts (I had some of this on my salad), Cucumber, and roasted tomatoes. Offered with Pepper Cream Dressing or Olive Oil and balsamic vinegar. Also the option of adding some Jalapeno Chicken Breast (which I also opted for)
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200033-1.jpg
Main: Beef Fillet featuring a ratatouille sauce, cauliflower gratin and a medley of baby vegetables.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5200035-1.jpg
Dessert: Ice Cream Sundae with choice of Hot Fudge Sauce (on mine), Butterscotch or seasonal Berry topping (I believe it was raspberry). Also could have had the choice of whipped cream and pecans.
The meal was amazing! The whole meal was just fantastic and very tasty. Only minor thing was that the beef was a bit dry but I expected this anyway and at least there was some sauce to soak into the beef. The menu was actually very interesting and I will put it up when I scan it at home. In AA First, you get everything served to you when you’re ready. As I was actually eating quite fast (as I wanted some sleep) I was moving on faster than the rest of the cabin. So while I was moving onto my dessert, others were just receiving their mains! However the purser and I had a little chat before this and had a little laugh as the lady beside me had fallen asleep while about to eat her main course! She was sat upright and slumped over her meal! The purser then excused herself while she removed the tray and put the meal back into the oven to keep it warm for a while before her friend woke her up to stop her sleeping in the awkward position. The purser then just brought back just the main dish for her to finish before she went off to sleep (this time after her meal and not during it!)
I decided to try and watch ‘no country for old men’ on the little tape player but it wasn’t the best quality from the old system. However as I was mostly just wanting to get some sleep I put the chair into the bed mode and lowered the arm rests (to make the bed bigger) and snuggled up in the duvet and dozed off to sleep……
I awoke around the coast of Wales and thought that as I was too close to LHR, I would just put the seat back into the recline modes and then just relax/snooze for the rest of the journey. The purser then came across and asked if I would have liked any breakfast (I said no for to be woken up for breakfast and she had a chuckle saying that as I said that, I would be awake for it! However I proved her wrong as I slept for half an hour through the start of the service). I said I was ok but I would have just liked a glass of orange juice (still felt full from dinner last night!).
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5210038.jpg
Us coming into the southern area for LHR holding.
Soon the captain came on to announce that we had begun our decent into LHR and actually that we may have to only do one circle in holding due to our time slot. It was a quick decent into the southern area of London and actually we only really did half a circle and were then put into the approach pattern.
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5210040.jpg
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5210041.jpg
Doing some turns while in the holding pattern for our short time.
It wasn’t the best weather and a tad cloudy. The approach was onto 9L today and I would have a good view of the newly opened terminal 5! (A place I would explore the next day)

Kind of bumpy approach and so the camera was bouncing around a bit for the video.
As I was sitting so far forward, the landing was very smooth (even though the camera looks like it shows different). We did a slow stop and soon turned off around T1.

http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5210053.jpg
I haven’t seen a UA 744 here at LHR for a while! Normally just 772s and 767s!

Etihad A346.
We soon pulled up to our gate around 10:15am and I was sad that my journey was over! Oh well will have to wait till next Tuesday for another trip on these great birds!
I made the long walk to Passport control and my line for UK/EU was empty! Last time I came through the queue was massive (and I felt like I was in Calcutta!). The officer scanned my passport and I made my way down to the baggage hall. I was extremely surprised on how fast my bag came off! When I travel through T1 my bags seem to take for ages for just a short flight (normally no bags really as its all business men!) but T3 was fast!
I made it through customs and soon was with my friend who I was spending the night with her in London before I headed up to EDI.
Terminal 5
Next day my friend dropped me off at T5 and all I can say about it is WOW! Huge improvement over T1 and T4! The building is HUGE! As I didn’t have much time really in T5 and I wasn’t able to get a window seat for my flight up to EDI I didn’t take any pics of the flight. However I thought I better take some of T5! Check-in was fast and the bag drops even faster! However when I arrived at the bag drop, the lady said would I mind waiting as her belt was sticking! I thought to myself oh great! Maybe my bag will be lost in the catacombs here! However a minute later the belt was back working and I dropped it off and made my way through security (my bag didn’t get lost also). Security is huge at T5 with many lines and hardly any queues. I unfortunately got buzzed while walking through the machine so I got the extra treatment! Nothing was found although I did feel kind of abused! I made my way around T5 to check the shops and then grab something to eat before my 1:15pm flight to EDI.

My first sighting of an A380! Man that bird is huge! Took a long time to get airborne. Sorry for quality but the only shot I could get!
I grabbed some food and then went to sit near the gate A7 which has some good shots for aircraft landing on 9L I sat right in the corner and just waited till my flight was boarding (from gate A1).
http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/cc18/albird87/P5220074.jpg
Wow this is a relic from the past! Didn’t realize that they had any Landor colours left in the fleet but I stand corrected!

A BA 744 landing. People who live around LHR and when aircraft are landing on 9L, there is a fantastic shot area near T5 for these landings! (Outside of the airport)

My first ride on a BA A321!
Our flight to EDI was pretty much normal routine. Only 50 mins flying time which I thought was very fast! Flight was full and as I was sitting in the middle, I felt a tad compressed in this little A321!
We landed in EDI and soon headed to the gate to be just a tad late and made my way out to get my new car. A Skoda Octavia!
That concludes this long TR and I hope you have enjoyed it. For me AA was awesome! The staff were all very friendly and the service and food is top notch! AA to me has really impressed me as I thought that this service was going to be a bit half-arsed but they were amazing! I would recommend anybody to fly on AA First as it is a wonderful seat and the food was just great!
Stay tuned for my return segment later on!

AA 777's in first class is my favorite way to travel and you captured the moment with your pics and vids.
7:20 is an average flying time from ORD-LHR. If you want to have a really long flight in the flagship suite, AA flies from ORD to NRT, PVG and DEL. Next March add PEK to that list.

An interesting airline that I have never seen here before. Anybody tell me where they are operate to?

Trans States Airlines was part of TWA's feeder airline. I'm not sure if it is actually part of American Eagle now

Have you kissed a 777 today?

Trans States operate AmericanConnection out of STL, United Express out of ORD, DEN, IAD, and US Airways Express out of PIT.

They now fly commuter for US Airways, United and American, I have seen a few of airplanes painted like the one you saw in STL, which is their home base. They also have a few airplanes painted like the one you saw with out any titles painted on the side or tail, which are parked either by their hanger or concourse D in STL.

hi,
I am really enjoying your TR!!! very good pictures! One quick question unrealted to your actual experiences... do you remember what hotel that sign was for in your first pic of T5? Im flying through LHR in a few months and am trying to find a good hotel and that picture caught my interest, I just can't make out a brand name.

I can help you with that after looking back at the origional and zooming in (10 megapixles does come in handy for this!).
That is actually an advert for Crowne Plaza in Dubai! so i'm afraid it wont help you for LHR!
where are you planning on staying for london? in the city or out at LHR?

Nice trip, looks like this was a pretty decent flight.

Meal looks ok but nothing particularly special though for First.

- Nice looking seat, like the swivel idea though it's not patricularly private.

Glad you liked T5, it sure is a vast improvement over T1 & 4.

You may think so but i didnt feel the need like i was always being watched. The dividers between seats and the way they are offset make them feel pretty private.
Also i could be way out of line with this but apart form the likes of SQ suites and also EK first which have privacy dividers, which other First seats are really private????
Also this seat offers way more privacy that the last seat AA had in first.
