* Everything else is on AC
Here's the 1st of the many TRs to come from this...
Trip Report: 8
Date: May 23, 08
Flight: AC 468 YYZ - YOW
Seat: 13A
Aircraft: 321
Load: 85 to 95%
All the trips above are working trips, so for the most part the timeframe is for quick turnarounds and not too much time to see any sights in the city or in the airport. I'll do my best to report on anything that comes up worthy of A.net.
I checked in on line per usual... easy process and preselected seat was already in place. No issues.
It was a quick turnaround so I made my to pay a little extra and park in the long term Terminal 1 lot.
They are finishing ramp contruction when coming into the airport off highway 427. They seem to work faster on the Samsung ad than on the roads though.
Terminal 1 departures level.
Terminal 1 long term rates - a bit more than the real long term lot (aka Viscount) but if it is just 1 or 2 days it works well.
Terminal 1 tip, always use the lower level security line for Canadian departures. Even if you check luggage make your way to the lower level and follow this sign. The line up is always 10% of what it is upstairs.
At the end of the hallway towards the alternate security point is the gallery. T1 is a beautiful building, this ugly resolution to some sort of problem has been in place for over a month. What a disgrace. The gallery is a nice place to kill some time if you have it.
MapleLeaf Lounge catering at its finest... there was no more soup which meant there was cheese... which there was... I had a caesar and made my way to the gate.
Pretty busy gate area...
The Air Canada children's livery was parked next door. It is featured in a couple previous trip reports - sometimes taking off...
Seat pitch - acceptable.
Nice light effect at the gate.
Safety demo was featured on-screen which is somewhat usual for the 321.
Pushback...
It was looking like it was going to be a beautiful night for flying.
As soon as we hit Toronto we got into some really nice cloud formations.
Darkness crept in...
The last vestiges of light...
Catering was minimal on the 45 minute flight. OJ, apple or water was the selection.
Being naughty with the Blackberry's GPS while in flight.
The IFE was never turned on, I got 10 Aeroplan miles for some technical issues but it never said which flight... maybe it was this one? Really with 45 minutes in the air, you could maybe watch 1/2 a TV show.
We were one of the last flights to land at YOW for the night so it was quiet. Westjet was parked next door.
Summary: It was a 45 minute flight with great views, what's not to like. I remember it being on time or nearly on time. The photos of the sky made it worth while, it made me wish I could go up for 30 minutes every night to see the sunset.
It was off to the Hilton Lac-Lemay in Gatineau just on the other side of the river in Ottawa. It is next to the casino (no poker tables).
Poor quality photo doesn't do the bathroom justice.
Hallway to sitting room.
Bedroom with nice big plasma, there was also the same one in the other room.
I have stayed at the Hilton Lac-Lemay 4 times at least, always a quality room and good location.

Short but nice read.
Pictures are pretty nice, they seem to have come out pretty well considering the light - I seem to have issues with low light/night shots out of the window

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do? I'm graduating soon and I wanna start a career that will let me travel frequently (except being in airline industry)! The dusk pictures look awesome.. I can't ever get a good shot at dusk or night.

I am in the music business... sometimes it is a tough thing to get into and not everyone is jetting around all the time.

The old Canon I had featured an excellent manual mode. I grew up with manual cameras so that worked best for me. Right now I carry a Olympus SW790 around which is ok but not great (I use the Auto mode without flash) and sometimes I have a small Canon SD40, again ok but not ideal. I am going to try to take my bigger Nikon D40 on one or two flights to get some really nice shots.
