The journey with Air Canada was a trip to family in Calgary and then to Vancouver for an Alaskan cruise.
In order to try to alleviate jet-lag and the fact that Calgary flights all leave in the early afternoon losing a day with family the decision was made for the following route> also the fare was a great buy at only £500 inc taxes etc! for all flights.

So off to Heathrow by Chauffeur car ( actually a friend who wanted an excuse to got to the car park at Terminal 3 on the top for a bit of spotting! It is 100 miles from my house.
The bag drop for my webcheckin did not exist so that was a waste . However checkin took only 5 mins and seats allocated were 15HK on a 767. We had a snack prior to boarding with the chauffeur and the security took about 5 mins as well. The gate area service was poor. the boarding was announced without any loudspeaker assistance and so no one really knew what to do. We just waited as I knew that we would be nearly the last to be called .It did seem very ameuritish to say the least.
Boarded to a pleasant smile and blanket and pillow on seat . The plane was quite hot on boarding but there was good legroom and as it is just a two that was fine as well..
The aircraft was number 631 and the loads were 100% C and 97% Y. so a busy flight for the crew.
Push back from gate 1857 and a ten min push in reverse to get to a taxiway. It seemed the longest I have ever done in reverse.
Take off ( I think it was 09R)but I am sure the experts will let me know was 1927.
Drinks and nibbles at 2000 all free bar and a friendly crew.
2040 The dreaded "Is there a doctor on board" call was made. However we continued the flight
2105 dinner ( well a meal) was served. Beef or Chicken with a drinks service. the meal was poor with no dessert or cheese etc in fact I have had better on a Monarch flight to Faro.
2135 coffee service and more drinks with a tray clear.
The film on the cabin screen ( old fashioned or what!) was all about the Taliban in Afghanistan. Not the most suitable fare I would not have thought.
The lighting throughout the aircraft was most suspect. It came on and off when it wanted and the toilet sign glowed on and off , I thought this may mean the wiring is defective.The toilet floor was rusty and corroded. Not what you expect for the main route from London to Toronto. It was a smooth flight and there was a water run at 2330.Then we hit some turbulance at 2345. Next run was 0045 drinks and the most revolting in flight meal I have every had ( A pizza Pocket) was served. It was not the crews fault but it really was not acceptable . Warm, dry and sqiggy and just not appealing at all.
Lights up at 0200 and I dropped my camera causing it to be a problem .
Landed Toronto 0240 ( 2140 local) at gate 2156 bags at 2215 and so to be at the Sheraton , booked in UK for a mere £65 .Great deal until they did not have the booking. However all was well in the end and got room facing the runway etc.
So the next day we Checked in for flight AC 117 at the hotel and had seats 12HK Excellent legroom 80% in C and 50% in Y on this flight.Doors closed at 0757 push back 0800 take off 0810 I think runway 05?
0845 Coffee and Juice offered with a BOB option 1000 water run and 1050 more free drinks and food to buy. Great service from the crew . 2 flights 2 good crews will it last?
Land 1145 gate 1149 then the fun started. As usual on North American flights no one could wait a second to get off the plane and the aisles were full as soon as the plane stopped. no waiting for the sign to be switched off!! Then chaos. the doors throughout the airport from the jetties to the terminal had auto locked and no one could open them. by now everyone was standing inn the aisles with all their bags. It took 15 mins for it to be sorted during which time the mobile networks must have made a fortune.
So to family and a nice couple of days.
Of back to Calgary airport for the Air Canada Jazz service to Vancouver. It was a CRJ CKKJZ From arriving at the airport , having done checkin on the web,to sitting down for breakfast after passing bag drop. security etc 15 mins! Try that at LHR.
The flight was 80%c and 100% Y with 2 crew. They worked hard and again a great crew .
Doors 0901 take off 0923 land 1028.
Loads of legroom and comfy seats with seat back IFE ( not on the longer flights )
There was a double pass for drinks and BOB . For a short flight this was good . They did work hard.
The weather was also good from about halfway and so we had great views of the Rockies and looped over YVR and that was good as well.
Then the cruise but this is a ship blog job. However did have a short flight on a Beaver from the end of the world ( Misty Fiords)to Ketickan in the co pilots seat! I can say that it was a sweaty experience when i saw the mountains looming ahead.
So then a return home ,sad day.
Easy checkin at Vancouver but only one bag belt working so a long q. The bags weighed 22.8 and 22.9 kilos so we were just under the 23kilos. Used as great weighing machine you can pack to make sure it is the right weight.
This flight was on a Emb 190 seats 13 f/d.
Doors at 1445 take off 1505 land 1630 doors opened at 1638. One drinks and BOB run again a great crew.
Then to the final Air Canada flight A330 from YYC-LHR Doors and pushback 1840 and take off 1854.
The aircraft was tired and there was no seatback IFE instead a view of the space it could have been in was a padded part of seat.but they did have wings for your head and this worked well.
1940 the drinks service started and then 2030 a meal , again poor standard potatoe salad with a minute stri fired beef and a piece of cake. No fruit but plenty of drinks and always the full cann on all flights.Not the small (midget) sized ones you get on UK flights.
During the night there were plenty of drink runs and water about every half hour. Again a great crew.
Breakfast was a muffin a packet of apples ( first fruit on all the flights) and a yoghurt.
This was served 0132 then closed the cabin for landing and we landed at 1032 doors at 1037 ( fast for Heathrow) We have Iris so no passport queue and we were away from the terminal at 1100 local. Pretty fast I think so no more snides about LHR it worked well for me.
All together a good lot of crews on all flights. In view of the comments on crews I would like to say I was impressed with all the crews so 5/5 cannot be beat.
Food .............................................rubbish It really was poor .
Bags Good and fast
Legroom on all flights Great
Width of seats were all fine except the A330
The 767's seem very tired and the lack of IFE on all transatlantic sectors seemd a bit of a problem , especially when Thomas Cook and so on all have IFE in the seat backs. Come on AC get up to date.
It was worrying to see the corrosion in the toilets on the first 767

Boy, I wouldn't buy a lottery ticket if I were you! The majority of AC's B767's have had new interiors installed with AVOD, and you ended up on two of the rare ones without. And, with the A330 modifications starting this fall, when complete, all AC aircraft, domestic and international will be equipped with AVOD.
I agree with you about the meals in Economy. Sufficient, but not outstanding. But I noticed that in your very first comment you mentioned the fare ... and that is the bottom line for the vast majority of passengers. In my opinion, as everyone is choosing airlines by fare, it wont be long before BOB migrates to the Atlantic as well.
