It was good   Was about what I expected.. Not United, not ATA

Was scheduled on 15 SEP MKE STL TW 543 B717 3:00PM.. Tail N406TW... the plane pulled in at 246PM and did a quick turn... started boarding at 305PM... MKE ground crew failed to do many announcements that we were late, didn't tell everyone to stay in gate area (typical) and only 1 person was working the gate.... I boarded at 320PM after watching the cattle call.. it was a completely full flight... engines started at 325P and did a "turn out" from gate C21. Jennifer was the lead FA and I could actually understand her over the PA system, although no one even paid attention to the safety announcments.. the seat pitch in 17C was really nice.. a good 39" (exit row). Also, the tray tables were in
the armrests.. i'm not use to this in the exit rows. The seats were nice and ergonomic, just miss the moveable headrest... also, no air phones on the seats, so I am wondering if TW got this plane as a deferred FL... Also, no black stripe on the wings for de-ice check ????? can someone comment ??

I did watch the FA do the beverage service in F.. she offered everything, but preset in plastic on a tray ---

FL was 350 (for a quick trip ????).... beverage service started 15 mins after takeoff, my only complaint was no peanuts/pretzels and i was served pepsi that came from 3 cans.... the FAs did smile and were curteous, just in a hurry I think... the engines were nice and quiet, the landing was decent, considering the hard N wind gusts (did a two step down the runway.. LOL)... taxi was fast into C2...

Now on to TW 672 STL PBI MD80 Nose 9005, tail N905TW. Noticeable age on the aircraft, in the old white/red scheme.... but nothing out of the ordinary.. just typical lil pieces of paint missing... boarding was very fast... did the F / Aviators preboard then let everyone else board w/o calling rows... the flight was light.. about 60 some people on board maybe. I also noticed some ground issues -- Gate C6 is a permanently placed gate-- I'd be nervous pulling up to that thing if i were a pilot, and catering parked about 3' from the plane and used a gangplank to put the carts on the plane... I've always seen caterors for National and United go all the way to the aircraft... the interior or the plane was clean.. i got 22C, and no one next to me   The seats were plush and in the older, but still new, blue and red seating... the seats were more comfy than what I'm used to on Northwest / Continental, and i DID have an airphone. The FAs were very talkative and smiled.. they did a good beverage & pretzel service.... I wasn't
too upset cause I grabbed some food at the Burger King down by the UA/AC counter (btw, that BK is the WORST i've been to my entire life...)

The landing was good, and got in ontime.. so now i'm here in florida and a @#%*@#$(* hurricane is gonna squeeze by us.. just my luck.. last time I went on a business trip, I had an earthquake, then a flood..... so considering i'm relocating down here, I'm @#*@#$( LOL.. at least i'm closer to the keys and the bahamas so I can do some diving.

Overall TWA, good job. While I still will prefer United for long haul, I will keep TW as an option for trips under 2 hours (per leg). I just don't like being stuck in an MD 80 for 3 hours w/ little to no inflight service.. call me spoiled.... i just miss my inflight movies and audio.... The service was good and I will choose them again....

I'm flying F back to MKE later this month to get more things, but i'm leary of using a buddy pass on United to fly back here --> have you traveled NRSA on United w/ 3 crates of personal belongings?? LOL

RETURN TRIP (uh - oh)

Ok.... this time I'm a *lil* disappointed TWA.

The good news: My bags survived STL

The bad news: My bags survived STL

The flight crews were good.... nice landing in STL.... was really cool to see another MD 83 just off our right wing as well.... the weather was awesome in St. Louis yesterday and my almost 3 hour layover let me hike over to the East Terminal... and see the "cattle roundup areas" of Southwest Airlines. Very VERY interesting boarding procedures.

PBI STL was flt 112, an MD-83 tail N9404V in the red/white colours. Serious aging inside this craft boiz. I crawled back to 32D so I could lay down and sleep. Noticed some major moisture damage to the interior and carpet.... the bulkhead in front of 32AC needed some major reworking. My big complaint-- this flight is listed as a MEAL flight. My meal? An apple-cinnamon prepackaged muffin.

The flight crew was good.. the purser was based in Maui and did humourous
announcements. The other two were based in St. Louis and were friendly.... looked like a senior crew. << found out they were all St. Louis based.. the crew was just having a good time >>

On to N405TW for a 717 flt to MKE. Very fast and smooth.... the purser spoke very fast (trainee maybe?) during the announcements... i guess that was my only complaint. I got 7C and was a very comfy bulkhead seat... I think I must have had at least a 48" - 55" seat pitch up there.. This time, the FA's gave out cans of soda.

Including my trip down there, things were good. My complaints on the return tend to stem from technical aspects, but to the unfamiliar human eye, the carpet separation from the interior siding could cause someone to fret a little... it didn't bother me, but I would at least expect the airline to replace the rear bulkhead on 32AC or try to patch up the bottom... the moisture damage went up about an inch or two on the carpeting. this could also be further impaired by people putting their feet up on the carpet..... and marking 112 as a MEAL flight, i was expecting an actual tray meal.. not a little muffin. That to me is not even classified as a snack.. on United and Continental, they at least give it to you in
a package that includes more than one item. Anyhow, I got home safe and on time (10 minutes early into STL!!)... thanks TWA... now to just work on keeping people's luggage in the same shape!

The PBI Ambassador's club was also cool... about a 1000' square foot facility... nicely decorated and a varying degree of ammenities....   I also liked the free OAG Flightguides (I normally keep flight disk on the lap dog)...

I flew TWA last Christmas and found them fine. They've done a lot to redeem themselves post-Ichan, and their efforts are beginning to bear fruit. The flights were on-time, the service was friendly and efficient, and my bags showed up at their destination.

I do agree with you about the food (or the lack of it), and this is my only pet peeve about TWA. For a 7 hour journey (via STL) over a mealtime I got a small soggy roll, a moldy bag of chips and a miniature cookie. This is in my book simply not good enough. While I accept TWA is not exactly flush with money, I think they need to spend a little of it to upgrade their Economy class service; it might just help their bottom line if they re-discovered how much importance passengers place on food.
