The other day I was going through my scrap book and stumbled upon some momentos from a trip that I took to Seattle on US Airways back in 1999. I have forgotten the majority of the details of the flight, but I wanted to post the menu so that we could all remember what first class on a transcontinental flight used to be like. I don't have too many pictures from the trips, but the pictures that I do have are not digital, so I will find a way to scan them and post them online soon, hopefully). I remember that the ticket was around $400 return and then I used 20,000 miles to upgrade to first class.

I don't know how it works now, but at the time, when you used miles to upgrade, you received a coupon of sorts and were required to bring that to the airport with your original economy ticket. When I was in NYC about a month before my trip, I went to a US Airways ticket office and went ahead and "redeemed" the coupon. Upon arrival at BWI, there was a bit of confusion and I almost didn't get my upgrade! After using the first class check in, I went through security and then got priority boarding. It was a short flight with drinks and the snack basket for first class. I do remember the flight attendent wishing me happy birthday over the intercom, which was a really nice touch. She was super; probably one of the best flight attendants I've ever encountered. After an hour, we were on the ground in PIT. I do remember the flight being full.

While connecting in PIT, all I remember was seeing the new Airbus 330-300s bound for Europe. Those were the days when US was operating flights from PIT to LGW, FRA, and CDG. LGW with the 333, and the other two with 767s. Upon boarding there were pillows and blankets at each seat. We were offered drinks, and pushed back ontime. Once in the air, menus were distributed. Here is what was for dinner, keeping in mind that at that time, US Airways modeled there transcon menus after their Envoy transatlantic menus.

Wines

Domaine Ste. Michelle Blanc de Blanc NV

Villa Mt. Eden Chardonnay 1997

Louis M. Martini California Merlot 1997

Lindemans Bin 65 Chardonnay 1999

Shrimp Lovers Cocktail

Salad

Seasonal Salad garnished with
Cucumber tomato salad
offered with your choice of
Italian Herb Vinaigrette or Creamy Caesar

Sunflower Boule, Rye Sourdough Rolls and Pumpernickle Rolls
Served with butter

Entrée Selection

Filet of Beef
Herb encrusted filet served with Santa Fe black bean sauce

Dessert

Lemon Pineapple Mousse

I don't really remember much from the flight. There was a movie and addtional programming on the main screen, and the service was good. The appetizer and salad were served from a cart while the entrées were served directly from the galley. I do remember having to wait a while upon landing to claim my bag. I don't know why, but we arrived at a gate at the South Satellite.

Again, not too many details from this flight, but here is the menu.

All I remember about the meal service was that it took forever to get dessert. The FAs seemed to use dessert more as a pre-arrival snack. We finally got dessert about an hour outside of PIT

Nothing too special about this flight. Out of 24, there were only about 4 or 5 passengers in F.

Sorry for the lack of details. The main purpose of this trip report was to post the menus from those transcon flights and remember was it was like only 9 years ago to fly domestically. Pictures will be posted soon. Comments welcome as I haven't posted too many trip reports!
