This is the return trip for the outbound trip report see for the first leg http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo...ums/trip_reports/read.main/128471/

Yes the Title Says EWR and as you read you'll find that sometimes plans change.

Following the weekend I checked in Sunday night for my return Flight to SEA on 6/16. The online check in went smoothly. I checked Seats on CO1481 EWR => SEA and it was wide open with close to 30+ open seats. Monday morning I check the weather. EWR at 10am is already showing 60+ minute Arrival and Departure delays. This is going to be a great night. I'm scheduled on the 5:10 out of SYR to EWR and a 7:50 to SEA. Also the Weather is going from bad to worse. Daytime Thunder showers are popping up all over the Northeast. And the cold front marching east from Boston all the way back to IAD is due over all the Major East coast Airports at about 6pm...

I ate lunch and decided to check the seats on 1481 a little after 12:00pm EDT. I blew past the COEX flight and when to what I thought was 1481 and thought "Damn a lot of seats filled up fast. Wait... where is my yellow seat? Then I noticed the Flight Departed from CLE!

* Now keep in mind I am NOT Elite with CO, I've been close a few years in a row. *

I do a little research and Notice my COEX flight SYR to EWR is showing canceled, already. Now I try to check in and print new boarding passes. I get a message saying to call the 1-800 number and speak to a representative. As I grab my phone it dawns I me CO has Rerouted me away from the weather. I call the 1-800 make my number selection and understand my wait time is less than 5 minutes. Within 3 the rep on the other end is speaking to me in a subtle Texas accent. I give my confirmation number and she explains what I had thought. They sent me on a different route to avoid the incoming weather and already terrible delays at EWR.

She Apologized for any inconvenience I incurred. I said it is no problem I'm leaving almost 2 hours later and I arrive 30 minutes earlier! She Selects my new seats and gets me to a point so I could print new boarding passes. With my boarding passes in hand I check a few other flights. I notice the 100pm that departs from SYR to EWR is pushed from the gate but delayed on the taxiway. I decide it would be a good idea to get to the SYR early because I know the delays and cancellations are mounting.

SYR => CLE CO 2589 ERJ145 3A

Boarding passes in hand My parents dropped me off at "Terminal B" I have to laugh. I spent the first 26 years of my life in the Syracuse area and SYR is a sad fraction of what it used to be but that could make for a post by itself. Anyway I head inside to check my bag. and there is a line but nobody is using the kiosks? They appear to be working, I head up and check my bag. One of the Agents asks where I'm headed I tell them and I ask whats with the line? They say "Oh they finally canceled the EWR flight that was on the taxiway for 2 hours... its going to be a long night." I can see that hopefully it all goes well. I head upstairs to pas through the TSA line. I breeze right through, And down across the bridge. I look out to see an American Eagle ERJ145. I think back to seeing AA MD80s and 727's over the years. For some reason Coming back to SYR reminds me more and more why I left...

At the CO gate there is another line, at UA another... There are RJ's everywere. Two for COEX Our Aircraft is there as is our crew. That is a step in the right direction. I look at the time. I have plenty and think I've got a 50 minute connection in CLE I'm going to grab a bite to eat... There are two Choices after security in Terminal B. A Syracuse Themed Sports bar and Sbarro I opt for the pizza. One greasy slice and a coke less than $5 not bad at all. Look at the time. Its time to board, a quick boarding down the steps and board from the ramp. I love doing that. walk out to the aircraft, and climb the stairs. Thankfully at places like SYR you can still do that, SEA has QX and you can walk the ramp there too!

Once settled in we fire up and head out early Full PAX, and into clear skies. CLE is 75 Clear. A quick flight over western NY and Ohio. COEX typical Pretzels and a drink. About 49 minutes and we are on Final at CLE. Once clear we are told we are 15 minutes early. Perfect! taxi straight to the gate. Ground crew waiting and I'm off in just a few minutes.
Up the jetway and as always I look for the connection board. SEA is now showing 955pm its just shy of 7pm... Damn!

Well I had a feeling it would be delayed with The Weather on the eastern seaboard. I make a few phone calls and head into the tunnel from D to C. Once getting into Terminal C I look at the Departure Board again. Alot of Canceled and Delayed Flights. I walk to C11 to find a full departure area but no airplane. Hmmmm I also notice LAS, SFO, and SAN are delayed. SAN is showing 1150 at this point. At this point I need to make a call and find out what I need to know. I call a sibling whom flies left seat for the Blue Tail and Golden Globe. I know he has the answer to my question. Where is my airplane, coming from? Turns out using his crystal ball he sees its CO1600 from PHL and its showing about 2 hours late.

Now with the information i need I let him get back to bed so he can get to EWR in the morning and head off to SAT. I keep an Eye on both flights. 1600 and 1457.

CLE => SEA CO1457 737-800 23C

Now with some time to kill I set out exploring CLE. I've been here a few times before but this is the first time I can walk around. CLE is night and day compared to EWR. Its small, but doable. The one thing about CLE is food places close early. Even some CO gate Agents made that announcements to several flights. The LAS one I remember they made the announcement that there was not a meal service so if you wanted something to get it before the shops closed and bring whatever you needed on the plane. a similar announcement was made for the SEA flight.

As time rolled on our departure was pushed back finally to 10:30pm. Thats when I made the call I would be calling in sick to work the next day and called my manager at home on the spot. SAN was now at 12:50 am so I wasn't going to be the last out of CLE so I didn't have to get the lights.

I was out at the end of "C" when 1600 arrived, I made my way back to C11. After about 15 minutes we began boarding, typical with CO. Once they called my row I headed down the window seat rider was already in place and took the aisle. CO still does it. Pillow and a blanket at every seat. Everybody on the flight was on the same page and we boarded rather quickly. Safety briefing and we where taxiing down for departure. A push of the throttles to T/O and away we went. Climbing out over Lake Erie The last cabin announcement was made. They were letting us sleep, watch the movie, etc. and felt no need to make any updates during the flight unless needed. I felt the same way. A very smooth glassy flight. I spent the first few hours glued to my PSP. and dosed off for the final hour of the flight. I could see out the window and picked out Moses Lake, Grant County Airport and Knew it would be 20 minutes...

Sure enough we began out descent and turned final over 45th ST N for SEA. Another West Coast Slam Dunk Approach. A little firm on the arrival in SEA, nothing worse than I have done. We clear and as we were taxiing to the gate CO1481 was rolling out behind us... I still beat it there, but one minute but I beat it. Once at SEA we deplaned in 15 minutes. The CO crew was down to a skeleton at that hour as there was only one flight to IAH to go. it was off to baggage claim, and after the customary 20 minute SEA wait here came the checked bag and I was off to the car.

============

Conclusion: Given the short notice and booking of this flight. I think everything went smoothly, or as smooth as it gets hitting EWR at rush hour and the northeast during weather. I guess that way CO has CLE to get several of the potentially displaced out to their destination when all hell breaks at EWR. I am not a CO spokes person even though I have a sibling flying for Mainline. If you ask him I am just as critical of them as I praise them. I was surprised that they rerouted me to avoid the weather, and in the end I was happy it worked out that way. Terminal A at EWR is still a Cluster**** but EWR itself is an experience. Outside of that It was typical of my experiences on CO. Its not groundbreaking but worth my money. I still like getting treated like a passenger.

Couldn't have said it better myself! Nice to see CO treated you very well in both cases where disaster would have manifasted on any other airline (your baggage issue on the previous trip and rerouting the second half). I'm never dissatisfied when I fly CO...Best in the skies, baby!
