Reason for trip
Another long haul flight for me and this time its to Frankfurt with a chartered LH flight to Seville in Spain. The purpose this time is to attend a product launch. I won’t mentioned much about the usual Jakarta – Kuala Lumpur and vice versa routes so just quick details for it.
2 July 2008
Jakarta (CGK) – Kuala Lumpur (KUL)
Airline: Malaysia Airlines
Flight: MH710
Aircraft: A330-300
Aircraft 1st Flight: 21 Nov 1995
Registration: 9M-MKJ
ETD: 1110
ATD: 1105
ETA: 1410
ATA: 1403
Flight Time: 1hr 40min
Cruise: 40,000 Feet
Seat: 2K (Golden Club / Business Class)
Had several hours to spare in KL, so my friend picked me up from the airport and off we went to have lunch and meet up with a few more friends. Got back to the airport with about 2 hours to go. Bought my duty free cigarettes and then its time spent at the freshly and fully renovated TG Royal Silk Lounge. From the picture you can see what a huge difference it is to the older one which was literally falling apart.

Boarding was on time and usual TG418 load to Bangkok, which is full to the brim in all classes.
After arrival, it’s the usual personal pick up by electric cart and I am quickly whisked off to the Royal First lounge. Went to the spa as usual for a complimentary massage, however the full massage was full, so instead a got a neck, shoulder and foot massage. Ahhh such is life! I did not walk around the airport as I recently tore my ligament playing basketball so I am actually limping and hopping on this trip so after the massage, its just shower, food and smokes in the Royal First Lounge.
5 minutes before departure time, the personal assistant picked me up from the lounge and whisked me away to the gate where HS-TGT is waiting for me.
In Flight
As its late, I did not manage to take some pics while boarding this aircraft, but I did notice the rego was HS-TGT and its now been painted in Star Alliance colours too. Service and food was just purely excellent as you might expect on TG Royal First, but sadly there really was not anything nice to watch on the AVOD, therefore I just watched Transformers on my laptop.
The older Elle pyjamas were actually nicer, this one has a cheaper look to it, but its still comfortable
Nice looking amenity kit, but also, the older ones were better
Caviar anyone?
Appetizers, lobster tail and Foie Gras
Main Course, Prawns with chilli sauce and rice, yummy!!
After the meal, I managed to sleep all the way into Frankfurt, waking up and freshening myself just before breakfast
Good morning, taking my time to get refreshed before descend into Frankfurt, as usual, Frankfurt is really busy at this time of the morning!
. Overall another great flight with TG in Royal First, and although the A380 is out, the B744 is still the queen of the skies (The King being the A380!!!)
As this entire aircraft was a chartered flight from our company, it was luck of the draw who got J seats and who got economy seats, well I am unlucky to get the economy seats, but at least I managed to secure emergency row seats. Aircraft was in great condition and the entire interior has been refurbished with the new look J and Y seats (which I first had the chance to go on in the B733 to Leipzig back in April)
Being a chartered flight, we also got a great meal service with both appetizer and hot meals. Manage to mingle with my colleagues and just caught up with old faced all around the aircraft all the way into Seville.
Limping all the way down the stairs!! Not really nice with an injured knee
I managed to kill time between my flight in Frankfurt by just walking around aimlessly, visiting the variety of shops they have there. After checking in, I just headed straight to the very crowded Senator Lounge and just parked my butt there till it was boarding time. Managed to do some spotting and noticed SQ was using the B773ER for the night flight back to Singapore.

By the time the flight took off, I barely stayed awake during dinner and dozed off all the way into final descent into Bangkok, how is that for 8 hours of nice sleep
Really can’t fault this flight, another effortless and great calming flight by TG.
After landing, I spent my entire time again at the Royal Orchid Spa and the Royal First lounge.
In Flight
Usual B772 for this short hop to KUL. It wasn’t full in J and about 80% in Y. Crew on this flight was also more cheerful than the usual TG regional crew. This B773 has yet to be reconfigured with the lie flat seats.
Service: 6/10 Food:9/10 Aircraft: 6/10
Sorry I did not write my return leg as it has become so mundane on my KUL-CGK sectors so, I just decided to sleep all the way back home.

The well debated new upholstery on the J seats of the B734 aircraft. YuckS!!!!
Thanks again for reading guys !!!
My next trips are:
Osaka with MH in J in July
Sydney and Perth with MH in F and J in September
Munich with TG in F in November
Los Angeles with SQ in F in November

Hi Stein,
Thanks for reading !!!....
Quoting SASDC8 (Reply 5): Hmmm... Now I almost really can't wait until November Wink TG First lounge here I come Big grin
Actually in the beginning, I deliberately chose a later connection time in BKK so that I can really enjoy the facilities, you need about 1.5hrs for a good massage, then another 1 hr enjoying the lounge, so find a flight that connecting a minimum of 3 hrs later or if you are staying in Bangkok, check in much much earlier and enjoy the great F service from the curbside onwards
Quoting SASDC8 (Reply 5): I must say that LH really keeps those A300's in great condition
Actually the only A300 I love flying now are LH's since they had the upgrade, but be warned, no inflight entertainment whatsoever eheheh so be prepared with a fully charged ipod or laptop
Quoting SASDC8 (Reply 5): What have MH's interior department been smoking???
Good knows!! the only thankful thing about it is that the cushioning is much better now ......
Thanks again Stein and hope you have a good trip, do let me know your final schedule and detailed travel plans, till then, all the best from Jakarta

Actually TG's A300 is my favorite A/C on domestic travel in Thailand Fantastic A/C.. On international travel I would be devastated if my flight was downgraded to a A300 but flying 1-2 hour flight it is truly excellent....
I just truly enjoy the A300 as a short haul wide body A/C
Check your mail for my final travel plan
Jakarta has now been put on my "places to visit" list

Great TR ThaiA345!
The MH J seat covers look hideous. The ________ (fill in the blanks) who chose those colours should be shot. How did you manage to sleep with the "glare"? Even LH's Y looks better.

Hi Herbert!
Excellent report and pictures as always mate!
I love Lufthansa's A300-600's .. they remind me of the days i flew them AUH-KWI-FRA, or AUH-RUH-FRA.
However, i do not like the new color of the seats on MH. Too bright in my opinion.

In about 11 hours, i will be on the King of the skies, as you implied haha
Thanks again for sharing!

Excellent Trip Report!
And I completley agree with you for giving TG 10/10 for service. The F/A's really take good care of you and the Silk Dresse's they wear and then changing into a new dress to serve breakfast add's a really nice touch.
The food is also delicious onboard TG.
Cant wait until TG get the A380!!
Thank's for posting!
P.s - What were MH thinking with those seat's! They are hideous.
