I decided to arrive at the airport early for my 17:55 flight due to anticipation of long delays or searches at check-in.
I checked in my Hertz car and had to walk from the new car return facility,as access to walking thru the terminal(arrivals is the nearest part of the complex) was restricted to arriving passengers and staff. This was not an easy task as it involves walking past the arrivals area where what seemed like hundreds of relatives were waiting all over the pavement and roads for passengers.
Made it through the crowds and had to show my ticket to the police for access to the terminal.
BA has changed the check-in(as expected)and all luggage goes through an x-ray machine before you can approach the check-in desk.
Check-in was smooth and I proceded airside and down to the gate to watch a few planes before leaving.
Boarding of our 757-200 - G-BIKF(16th 757 built)was at gate 22 and began at 17:00.Every piece of luggage was being searched by police, even after another x-ray at the gate.Due to this we pushed back at 18:25.
We taxied out and took off at 18:35.The captain announced we would climb to 35,000 feet on out trip to LHR.
The meal service began(drinks following after) and consisted of the following:-
A roll with Pasta and cheese salad with slices of chicken with lemon cake for afters. Not bad but some dressing would have been nice.
Despite the late departure we arrived on time at Heathrow.
Once again another great flight by BA,with the delay being made up,not that anyone would complain as the extra security causing delays.
One thing I saw at Heathrow was bad display by BAA staff.
4 members of BAA staff were running up and down the moving walkways laughing and joking with each other, one of them was even running the wrong way on one of them.Once they got to the end they did it again!
To make it worse they wore BAA SECURITY on the backs of their jackets.
This is in bad taste and many people were looking at them, they must have been thinking 's this BAA's security?'

Nice trip report, BA319-131!
Did you know that you were lucky enough to have flown on BA's oldest 752 in service? (BIKA/B/C/D have already found their way to DHL, afaik). How was the cabin, did one realize that this bird is over 18 years in proud BA service?

Hi Ndeble,
Thanks for your comments.
I must point out I made an error, the flight number was BA503,502 was the inbound flight.
From the look of this plane your average passenger would never have guessed how old this plane is.The interior is well kept and clean.None of the fittings were worn or broken. The front section seats were all leather, down to about row 20.The rest were in the usual BA blue cloth trim.
I guess this will be one of the next to leave the fleet.
