I’ll start off by saying I always enjoy reading other TR so I thought I would post my first TR. I've been meaning to do this for a while. This TR is part of a longer trip I had taken through Vietnam. My total trip was MSN-DEN-SFO-TPE-HAN-HUI-NHA-SGN-TPE-SFO-ORD-MSN. One big surprise of this trip was my SGN-TPE-SFO flight which was aboard EVA’s brand new 777 on its first day of revenue service and only its second revenue flight of the day.
The following is my TR from NHA-SGN. I’m thinking about writing the other flights, I’ll see how this one goes first.
Our tour bus dropped off us at the Nha Thrang's airport about a 1:30 before our flight to Saigon. Nha Trang's airport is about a 25 min ride south of the city. If I’m not mistaken this airport is an old military base from the war.
Check in took some time as there was about 25 of us along with another 200 plus all checking in for our flight to SGN and a flight to HAN. Our tour guide checked us all after about 30 mins of pushing our way up to the front of the ticket counter, it was pretty chaotic.
After finally checking our bags we began to head past security and then up stairs to the waiting area. The waiting was quite full as you can see.
I sat for about 20 minutes until our aircraft arrived from SGN.
Our plane to SGN just arriving
Deplaning went pretty quick and before long everyone made their way to the staircase which leads down to the awaiting buses. After getting the last seat on the bus we drove out to the aircraft.
Just off the bus boarding the plane
Since I was on one of the first buses out to the aircraft we waited about 20 minutes before the aircraft doors closed and we began our taxi to the active.
Just arrived from HAN
After a 5 minute taxi to the active we took off to the north and turned over the South China Sea (or South Asia Sea as the Vietnamese say).

Quoting Pilotfox (Thread starter): The only bad thing about the whole flight was after deplaning we had to walk about to the other end of the terminal and downstairs to get to the terminal.
"...walking to one end of the terminal" is a pattern left over because this part of the airport you arrived at is the old international terminal. All arriving passengers are funnelled along a glassed-in pathway immediately after the exit from the aerobridge into a room (I believe is now an empty shell) which used to house the immigration facilities, after which you take the escalators down to baggage claim.
If your A321 docked at the southern end of the domestic terminal, it would mean walking the entire length of this glassed-in walkway to the old immigration room, down the escalators, and walking back in the opposite direction the entire length of the terminal AGAIN to where you plane is parked to witness the baggage handlers remove the bags from the aircraft, and dumping them onto the conveyor belts. Don't you just love Vietnam?!
As you have probably observed, even the lower arrivals where the baggage carousels are is really empty and old shop spaces all shuttered. It looks really ugly, if you ask me. Of course the new international terminal next door seems like another world, altogether!
The airport authorities are probably using this interim arrangement to tie them over until the new airport opens in Thanh Long to service HCMC.
Thank you for stirring up my memories again! I know you would have enjoyed Vietnam as much as I did!
Welcome to my starry one world alliance, a team in the sky!

Thanks for this report. I will be flying this route in May 2009 and reading your well written report and looking at the great pictures increased the anticipation. Hope you enjoyed writing it (it is a little like re-living the trip, isn't it?) and that there will be many more to follow!

Awesome report! Thanks for sharing!
I'll be flying Vietnam Airlines in a few weeks as part of a longer journey. I'm flying SEA-ICN-HAN with Asiana Airlines, and then Hanoi - Da Nang with Vietnam Airlines. Now I know a bit of what to expect.
Vietnam Airlines actually looks pretty good. They ABSOLUTELY need some work on their website and technology, however. Buying a ticket with them is like going back in time 30 years.
