after 3 weeks on the west coast...

August 10 2001
SEA-ORD (Seattle to Chicago O'Hare)
United #512 757-200
dep 8:40AM arr 2:28PM
Economy seat 20A

We spent 3 weeks on the west coast and drove from the Bay Area to Seattle, and now it was time to go home again... which I did not want to because It meant summer was going to end (even though within 48 hours of me leaving Seattle I would be holding tickets to another city again...) So I woke up at 5:00AM at the Holiday Inn at Sea-Tac and we went to the airport, literally across the street. Returning our cars was really fast, and at 6:45 we were inside the terminal. We first checked in a friend of ours heading to Moscow SVO via JFK on Delta, his flight was at 8:15AM. Delta had a really long line, with morning flights to JFK, SLC, ATL, CVG, DFW all departing pretty close together. But anyways we checked him in and walked down the terminal to check in for our flight. We used to Premier check in so the line was not that long for United, but for the rest of the people in the non-premier line, wow that was an outrageously long line. Anyways we checked our baggage, and got our boarding passes, which were for seats 20A 20B 20C 20D and 20E. Same seats that I had reserved online, once again. We said goodbye to our friend, and he was off to JFK pretty quick, and then we made our way to the North Satellite, and that took awhile. I dont like the whole idea of taking a train. But that is okay. We made it there ontime and at gate N6 I think was our 757 N542UA. They were already almost finished with the boarding process when we got there, so we got on and moved to our seats in row 20. This seemed like a pretty old 757, a little worn inside. Anyways I was once again tired, falling asleep at 1 and waking up at 5 just does not work... as you see through my trip reports it takes me awhile to learn.... Anyways we pushed back perfectly on-time and headed to the runway, whatever the # is for north takeoffs at SEA, Right runway. We were #2 inline for takeoff behind a Horizon F28. We took off and immediately turned around and headed straight south, past Mt. Ranier and down the coast, until a little south of Mt. St. Helens where we turned east, and drink service began. I once again got a full can of coke. The FA's on this flight were very nice, but you could tell their smiles were not real. But oh well I guess they pay them to smile so they do. Once again breakfast was a breakfast burrito or an omlet, and once again i got a breakfast burrito. All the audio was broken on this flight except for Chan. 9 and Nashville Today... oh joy! So I was tired of ATC and ended up listening to country music again. I dont know why but coutry always makes me sad. Especially songs like "But i do love you" by Leann rimes. and that song where it never rains in southern california. But oh well. We made our way over southern Montana, and there was some movie on but i didnt watch it. The we were in South Dakota... and drinks were served again. The captain said we were expecting to be 25 minutes early arriving because we had a really strong tail wind. So we were already over Iowa before I knew it. We started to descent and it was a really bumpy ride. We were approaching runway 9R again, and we were going what seemed like way too fast, and at the last minute, the engines went back really far and everyone was almost jolted forward as we slowed down really quickly in the air. we then landed, dropping the last 10 feet onto the runway and hitting it really hard. We landed at 2:00PM exactly, 28 miunutes ahead of schedule. Anyways we got there ontime and made out way to some gate in the C concourse. deplaned, got our bagge and into a Taxi to go home.

Once we got home, my dad and I went to the post office to pick up our mail from the last 3 weeks, and I got a letter from my best friend saying "see if you can come back down to camp for the last week" ... the last week started Sunday and it was already Friday... so I thought I had no chance of going back to Utah for a week... but there is another trip report coming up so I obviously did....

comments welcome

United Airlines 10/10 perfect flight, almost 30 minutes early!
Sea-Tac Airport 9/10 i dont like the train
Chicago O'Hare 10/10 same airport as before
757-200 8/10 seemed old.

life wasn't worth the balance, or the crumpled paper it was written on
