This is my first trip report, as I have read many of your wonderful trip reports please keep in mind that my English and my writing skills could be way below the standard level on this forum but I still hope that you can enjoy my report.

This trip was born on the will to fly the A380 and with me and my father with enough time to head out to Sydney in the summer I started looking for a flight. After a lot of searching and convincing my farther I managed to get him booking the flight in Business class and on the A380! ( first business flights for my) I've flown business once before but I was 2 years old back then.

A week before the first leg of the flights to Singapore I was searching the web and found out about a new hotel at Schiphol called Citizen M. Since our flight was 'pretty' early I got my parents to go to AMS the evening before our flight and check out this new hotel and be at Schiphol early to enjoy the lounge and have a good night sleep.

Turned out that I was to busy with the room and it's gadgets after all so not that good sleep as planed.

the room with its lcd tv and remote control. ( free movies and internet in each room)

with the remote control you can change the lights and mood in the room, adjusting the music and temperature and closing or opening the window shades.

Checking was very smooth there was nobody in front of us and the very friendly lady of SQ checked us in very quick. After passing security we headed to Fortis lounge first since my father had just received a pass for this lounge we wanted to check it out.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdUNnxH8fI/AAAAAAAAAdg/0WtD6tzbEL4/s800/singapore%20en%20australie%20sony%20008.jpg picture of the Fortis lounge at AMS

I wasn't very impressed by this lounge I've only been in one other lounge before in Cancun Mexico when fly Star Class with Martinair so i'm no expert but judging on the reports on this forum this lounge didn't have much to offer. Just a very limited collection of magazines and news papers and a very small selection of drinks and small things to eat. Also the size of the lounge is really small the lounge was almost full with about 8 people in it! The only good thing about it was that for these 8 people there was one person to assist you with any question or requests

After one drink we headed to the SQ lounge which is about 10 meter from the Fortis lounge.
the lounge was all ready about half full by then and since I didn't want to bother other people I didn't take a good overview picture. I ended up with this picture of the lounge

The lounge location and its view are good the selection of food and drinks basic. I was looking for a good breakfast and got a plastic baked fruit box with yoghurt. I was surprised to see that they had pop champagne bottles in the fridge I didn't take one since i was still having breakfast.

After breakfast and some shopping we headed to our gate which was quiet a few minutes walk. When we arrived security check in had all ready started but there was no lane in place for business or elite members. Within a minute the woman of the lounge came by and asked us to follow here, thereby getting true the crowd much faster. After security check-in we had to wait for about 10 to 15 minutes before we where allowed to board the aircraft.

our 777-200 to SIN before boarding

After boarding within 30 seconds a flight attend came to our seats to offer us a glass of champagne and take our jackets. The would not be my last glass of champagne for today! which is excellent champagne btw! (charles heidsieck)

my second glass of champagne just after take of with Singapore airlines famous saté

After this first snack I started checking out the IFE system I wasn't to happy with it. The tv screen it's that bright and the selection of movies is not that big in English compared to the selection in economy PTV with KLM and is also not that fast. After some time playing around with the system and ordering from the menu my dinner arrived.

I didn't write down the chooses but here are 2 shots of starter and main course.
The meal was pretty good but nothing spectacular. The funny thing is that the red wine Château Ramafort 2001 that they served is the same wine I serve to people at my part time job in NL! So here the shots of the meal services

http://lh4.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdURUBzZkI/AAAAAAAAAeA/5mUc_ND2Kw4/s800/singapore%20en%20australie%20sony%20015.jpg

starter

main course (beef)

Soon after this meal I started watching movies to let time go by a bit faster. After 4 movies the complete cabin was in darkness and I tried to get some sleep with mixed success. I was still dark when breakfast services began I wasn't hungry at all so I just took the continental breakfast no pictures of that! I wasn't that exciting..

Soon after the meal services we where descending for SIN there wasn't that much to see our arrival time was around 0600. After landing as we head a stopover of one night we headed to baggage reclaim area at immigration there where quite a few people before us, not from our flight but other ones looked like allot of them where here as workers not tourist or business man. But even though there where quite some people we got true pretty fast and got our bags straight away.

By this time I was feeling the effect of just a few hours of sleep and the time difference and we headed over to the Singapore Stopover counter. After waiting for 30 minutes a small bus arrived and took us and about 10 other people to the city stopping at various hotels.

http://lh6.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdUSqJYaaI/AAAAAAAAAeQ/ze52bA6hC54/s800/singapore%20en%20australie%20sony%20019.jpg

last picture of SIN airport before heading to the city

I want put to much information here about our stay in Singapore but will tell you just a bit.

We booked a room in the Swissotel The Stamford which is a hotel that has 62 floors if i'm correct. Since we arrived at around 0730 our room wasn't ready but if we upgraded to a executive room +100 Singapore dollars we could get a room in 2 hours use a special waiting room and have breakfast and pre diner and drink included so we took that. We would not regret our choice.

We got a room on 58th floor with a spectacular view and after some relaxing we and walking around in the city we enjoyed our free drink and snacks on 60th floor!

http://lh5.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdUTKFN1nI/AAAAAAAAAeY/vhOjAa3VzvA/s800/australie%20en%20singapore%202008680.jpg

view from our room

The next day we still had time until about 6 pm before we where picked up by our bus. So we took the Singapore stopover bus to see some parts of the city and also paid a visit to the Singapore Flyer

a view of the Singapore flyer

in part 2 on the way back I will show you something else you can do at the Singapore flyer which is more aviation related!

So now back to the airport for our flight to SYD with the A380

Load factor in business look like 100% full don't know about economy. We asked for window seats at check in but these where all full all ready.

After check in we headed straight to the silver kris lounge and saw the A380 just arriving at the gate from the smokers terrace in front of the lounge.

http://lh5.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdUT_TKa_I/AAAAAAAAAeg/QHnHViG8ioI/s800/singapore%20en%20australie%20sony%20027.jpg

a view from my seat in the lounge watching CNN I didn't take a overview picture as I didn't want to bother other people and even though I was impressed by the size and looks of the lounge it didn't let me make a picture. I took a look around the lounge and found the selection of drinks and foods much better then in AMS but this the home base of SQ so that seems more then logical and this lounge is almost brand new. Also the showers looked pretty nice something I would try on the way back.

After some time in the lounge it was finally time for me to board the A380!

When we reached the gate we could all ready walk straight into the aircraft and check it out!

http://lh3.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdUVd9--LI/AAAAAAAAAew/1wcIXsCmQTs/s800/singapore%20en%20australie%20sony%20030.jpg

just after getting on board a view of people checking in. When boarding was still in full process I was to busy looking around that I didn't walk down to First Class which my father did and discovered later that in flight it isn't possible to First Class!

After a few minutes I got my welcome drink and off course it was champagne again!

http://lh3.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdUWLm7FtI/AAAAAAAAAe4/9GfuFjlQ8Mg/s800/singapore%20en%20australie%20sony%20031.jpg

me with my glass of champagne in seat 23F

Now it was time to check out the IFE of this flight. Tough there is a way bigger selection of music there aren't that many movies on the system at least in English. Because I all ready watched four movies on the way to Singapore I started with a Japanese movie with English subtitles. After that I watched vantage point here a pic of the screen view

http://lh4.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdUYs2a7UI/AAAAAAAAAfQ/YzllbgC5th8/s800/australie%20en%20singapore%202008673.jpg

Now it was time for the mail services because of this night flight there wouldn't be to much hour between diner and breakfast we head a headwind so this made the flight time even less then the scheduled 7hours and 20 minutes

Here are to pics of the diner services which looked much better then on-board 777

http://lh4.ggpht.com/s.ankersmit/SKdUZLvgm2I/AAAAAAAAAfY/8q9u8VwiJWQ/s800/australie%20en%20singapore%202008674.jpg

my fathers main course

Again no pics of desert, breakfast or landing because it was way to early for my!

I hope you liked my trip report so far part 2 will be on the way back. Since I now discovered how much time it takes to make this kind of reports it will take one our 2 weeks to finish that also depending on your feedback for this report.

As a special bonus for every one that took the time to either scroll or read to the end of this part1 here is a short movie I made while flying (as a passenger) in Kenya in 2005

Great TR. Btw, SQ has dropped the "Raffles" bit from its business class product. It's now simply known as Business Class.

If you won't mind flying in small planes there loads of places to go that are worth a visit

Places where I stayed and I would recommend

Amboseli Reserve
our lodge/camp
http://www.chelipeacock.com/camps/tortilis.htm
more info about the park
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amboseli_Reserve

Masai Mara
http://www.masai-mara.com/mmvm.htm
which is now the best to visit due to the wildebeest migration going on right now
our camp
http://www.governorscamp.com/home.php

And last but for sure not least is
loisaba not a official park but maybe therefore more Africa because it's 'park' is not set up as a grand tourist attraction

star beds sleeping in the open watching the stars from the river best experience for me so far
http://www.loisaba.com/star-beds.htm

the lodge it self very exclusive with a amazing view over the the surroundings
http://www.loisaba.com/loisaba-lodge.htm

hope that this helps you

You can fly to all these places from Wilson Airport in Nairobi

Nice report, enjoyed, thanks.

Certainly looks like the 380 flight had better service and meals than the flight from AMS, shame.

Hope to get back on the SQ 380 in feb on the SIN>NRT route.
