This is a report of a trip I took last September for my holidays on Crete.

15 September 2001:

WAW-HER Boeing 767-300 ER SP-LPB "Gdansk", flight # LO 6767, cpt T. Smolski.

Departure time: 5.30 AM
Arrival time: 10.20 AM

We had to come to the airport 3 hours prior the departure to pick our tickets from the travel agency representative. WAW airport was quiet and almost empty at 2 AM- there were more security guards and policemen than passengers. There were no departures from WAW between 1 AM and 5 AM. The only arrival at that time was LOT 737 charter from Alanya.
The travel agency man came on time, we got our tickets and went to check- in- the queue was quite long. But then we were told we had to pass an extra security check before the right check- in. That caused a real chaos.... All our bags were X-rayed and then we were permitted to come to the check agent. No problems then, I got 33 C, my girlfriend 33 D.
The boarding was through the jetway and was smooth. We were welcomed by friendly F/A at the plane and offered the newspapers. She also showed us our seats. The plane was almost 100% full. Among the passengers we saw Grzegorz Markowski- frontman of famous Polish rock band "Perfect" who was travelling with his brother and wife.

Our B 767 was delivered to LOT in 1995- it was clean inside and it seemed to be well maintaned. No PTV`s in LOT planes so we were shown the safety demo on the screen and monitors. LOT`s demo is quite funny as it is the cartoon. Some of the characters are really funny (e.g. the lady passenger shown on this demo putting her oxygen mask who had enormous red lips).

Push back was on time. As I wrote above the WAW airport was quite sleepy at that early Saturday morning. We were the only plane taxiing to the runway. After take- off we were offered the cold drinks (no alcohol drinks on LOT charters). There were more male F/A on that flight than a women (what a shame, I find LOT`s female attendants to be the prettiest of all) but all of them very friendly. I asked for the cockpit visit but as I supposed they refused for the obvious reasons.

One hour after take off we were offered the cold breakfest (no hot meals on LOT charters)- the cold meat, cheese, rolls, chocolate bar, orange juice, coffee and tea.

The flight was really smooth, we were flying over Poland, passing the boarder over the Tatra mountains, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Macedonia and Greece.
Shortly after passing the Athens we started our descent and we landed in HER Nikos Kazantzakis Airport on time where we saw another LOT plane - B 737 SP-LLC, which left WAW 30 minutes erlier than us, plenty of Hapag- LLoyd planes, one Axon Air 737 and one Olympic 737-200.

29 September 2001:

HER-WAW Boeing 767-300 ER SP-LPC "Poznan", flight # LO 6768, cpt J. Rozanski.

Departure time: 10.45 AM
Arrival time: 1.50 PM

Relaxed after 14 day holidays on sunny Crete we arrived on small HER airport where we were shocked by a great amount of people waiting for the check. Only two agents were working at our flight (more than 200 pax) so the queue was very long and passing very slow. But it was worth waiting! We got the 1 row seats in 767 businness class (2+2+2).
The security check seemed to be the normal one and passed it quickly. After doing some shopping in duty-free I took my camera and made some pictures of the planes- again Hapag Lloyd planes dominated the ramp.
The boarding was on time- the bus took us for very short trip to our 767. This time it was LOT`s newest 767 delivered on June 1997. We were one of the first of the passengers onboard so I had pleanty of time to watch the interior of LOT businness class.
Take off again on time, smooth flight, professional and friendly F/A (this time the ladies were really cute!). Smooth landing in WAW and again no cockpit visit.

29 September 2001:

WAW-POZ Eurolot ATR 42 SP-EEE, flight # LO3843, cpt J. Michalski.

Departure time: 2.05 PM
Arrival time: 3.00 PM

That was the last short sector of my return trip. The 50 minute flight to my hometown Poznan was smooth and uneventful. Only 15 pax onboard, 2 F/A- both of them very young. That time I didn`t asked for cockpit visit as I had the jump- seat landing in Eurolot ATR 42 last July.
We were offered the cold drinks, tea/ coffee and cold sandwich.
Landing on time, at the airport we saw SKY JET DC-10 which brought La Scala musicians and singers for their only concert in Poznan.

Great trip report. I enjoyed reading. Seems as you had a very pleasant fligth to Greece. It is funny that you will never get hot meals on LOT Charter flights. On my recently Balair flight to Turkey we got hot meals for lunch on the back flight to Zürich.
Anyway it was nice to read this repor. Does LOT operates a lot of Charter flights?
Greetings
Mike, Switzerland

Thanks for your kind words.
There are only two polish charter operators- LOT and White Eagle Aviation. I`ve never been on WEA flight, but I was told they serve pretty decent hot meals and their 737`s have audio/ video entertainment equipment.

Hi Kuba. Balair was serving hot meals and they had video system in the aisles. But anyway, I love the Boeing 767 very much and I think LOT Polish Airlines is very good. I have neever flown on LOT but I would love to do it soon, I also would like to visit Poland once. Budapest is the only city which I visited in this area. Is it possible to collect Qualiflyer miles on LOT charter flights? On Balair flights it is only possible on their long-haul flights which are operated with an Boeing 767 as well.
Greetings
Mike

I`m not sure about Qualiflyer miles on LOT charter flights.
I do also like 767 very much but it`s said LOT will sell it`s 767 in the near future and replace them with A330. One of the 767 will probably go to WEA.

I think this was a stupid idea of Swissair to replace the nice Boeing 767 with Airbus A330-200. But now Swissair is bankruptcy LOT have to take care alone of them self and this means that the have to organise everything new, as the Polish government said. Luckily LOT is not in very bad financial situation. Hope they will get new Boeing jets like the 777. This would be nice.
I think LOT is a very good airline. They were voted again as best Eastern European airlines.
Greetings
Mike

LOT has really improved much in recent years. It was the first eastern european airline who had all western a/c fleet. In my opinion they should improve ground customer service as in- flight service is good.
LOT should be proud of it`s pilots- many of them are current world champions in gliding and precise flying.
I wonder how Swissair`s problems will affect LOT- a couple of weeks before September 11 they announced they will fire 400 employees- it may get worse now. We will see what will happen.

JAT has always had all-western ACs. That doesn't really make much of a difference though, they are still a pretty bad airline. But it wasn't always that way............
