Time for another mini cruise. This time it was to be on the Italian cruise company Costa Cruises. I looked at SK originally but realised that their DUB-CPH flight would not get me in on time. Aer Lingus was the only option so I had to book that . Cost for the ticket oneway DUB-CPH was just over EUR65 . Not bad really.
I took the bus from Newry at 3am to get my flight at 0640am. I hate these early mornings they kill me . A friend/collegue was coming along also so I had some company.
DATE: 14SEP08
FLIGHT: EI 622
ROUTE: DUB-CPH
SEAT : 29F
AC/ : A320-214
REG : EI-DEH Named "St.Conleth"
We arrived at Dublin airport which at 0430am was quite busy. My friend went to check in his bag , the que was rather long and took him around 20 minutes at the ''Fast bag drop'' .
After that we decided to go to McDonalds. I just needed something hot. I asked for a Sausage & Egg McMuffin but with a Hamburger pattie instead of a Pork pattie but this was too much for them to handle. Instead I ordered a Egg McMuffin and then purchased a Hamburger and made it up myself. Not rocket science. The option should be there for those that dont eat Pork.
After that we went to Starbucks. I had been given the codes from a mate of mine who has a Eircom Wifi account so I decided to check my mail.
Soon after it was time to go through security and head to the gate A9 which was not too far. Security was quick , no more than 5 mins.
The time went quickly and soon it was time to board.
Marks plane!!
We chose the last row of seats as from my experience they are normally the last to fill up. We had the middle row to ourselves so it worked out well. I just wanted to get some sleep and so did my friend.
It's OZjet, using older B732's ex European Airlines. Not sure if this Australian airline operates own European charters, or on behalf of somebody else.

Very nice report and photos as always!
Shame to hear the crew were not up the standard usually expected when flying Aer Lingus. Belfast and Cork crews are probably the best at Aer Lingus but I had a Dublin based crew on my flight to ORK last month and they were grand. The few that are letting the side down need to improve.
Nice to hear the Ryanair crew provided a nice service though, not something I've ever experienced with them but maybe it's time to give them another try but only when the fares are low enough which they never seem to be when I need to fly.
What were the loads like on each flight, EI seem to have dropped CPH again. They like operating it for a year or two and then drop it before starting it up again and doing it all over again.

Great report. Loved the photos.
Shame they don't let you take your own drink on board the cruise ship... I never knew that, is it a standard policy?
Shame the EI crew were not more friendly - I've had the same experiences over the last 2 years with some exceptions.
On the other hand your Ryanair experience seemed good. I've had some pretty good (and cheap) flights with them lately and couldn't complain despite the amount of knocking they get.

Quoting OA260 (Thread starter): After take off we experienced alot of turbulence and I mean it was quite rough. The seatbelt signs stayed on for a good 30 minutes. Finally we got out of it and the buy on board began.
Crew were quite poor and did not smile. They did their job and no more. My friend noticed it also and we discussed the difference between the BFS and DUB crews. He flies out of BFS all the time with EI and said that maybe the DUB crew were upset about something. Who knows. Its starting to get like a mixed bag on my recent trips and thats a shame because Aer Lingus crew were always one of the best
There is no excuse for cranky crew, but in fairness, we are hearing of job cuts constantly in the media and the rumors of outsourcing cabin crew, so i'm sure this is affecting crew. Its hard to plaster on a smile when youre hearing jobs are going on the news, and your company is saying nothing!

Hi, Philip.
Great stuff.
I´ve waited for your story, known that you had another mini-cruise on schedule.
So it seems I need to do something similar (Celebrity Olstice) next year!.

Great TR as usual mate.
Looks like a nice mini-cruise and it must be something coming from me! Nice flights with EI and FR too. I'd love to go to Copenhagen one day, one of the few European countried I've never been in, but someday!!!
Feels like it was only yesterday when I was hoping to get on the real Primera a/c & not that one leased from Futura.
Quoting OA260 (Thread starter): Very good looking race the Danish.... eye candy everywhere LOL....
I thought all the scandivian countries were a good looking race LOL
I think I might know one of the EI F/A's. Looks like she could have been on my flight to LHR back in February (guess which a/c ) who I then added as a friend on bebo.
The more EI & DUB trip reports I read the more im looking forward to my trip to London in November.
Looking forward to your next TR, hopefully with Jetx

Great Report.
Now, I might of missed it, but was that ship new? The decor is well, a bit on the tacky side! That lime green bathroom is, well, beyond words

Cookies are the Gateway pastry. They lead to Éclairs and Bear Claws.

Great report Philip!
I love the idea of flying out and sailing back, might be something to do aswel someday in future!
The ship itself was not up to my taste, but that's only taste.
Also surprisingly your aicraft pics looked a bit blurry, something I am not used from your hand
Nevertheless a great read, and very interesting!
Thanks for sharing!!

I know I cant figure it out why some photos come out crystal clear and some just wont take properly. I need to upgrade my camera to the new Xlim version with shock resistant auto focus and higher defintion/zoom. I will have to start saving LOL....
