At 10:00, Thursday 27th of September myself and my mum started the 21/2 hour drive from Doncaster in Yorkshire to Stansted Airport in Essex for our 15:50 flight to Prestwick in South Ayrshire. The rain was horrendous but we persevered and reached the airport at mid-day.
Stansted Airport is a beautiful building but the queues at the Ryanair check-in desks were ugly, being wide and long. There were queues for Brussels (Charleroi), Nimes, Dublin, Dinard and Cork. Luckily we were amongst the first in the queue for Prestwick. The check-in assistant was very friendly and efficient.
We then proceeded to the departure-lounge, via the security point. I was suprised at the lax security, the person at the X-Ray machine had her back to the screen and I wasn't searched. We then wen't to the departure lounge which has enticing views of the apron. There was a good mix of aircraft visible:

3 x Go! Boeing 737-300
2 x Lufthansa Airbus A-320

15:15 we made the 5-minute walk to Gate 85, and after about 10 minutes walked down the air-jetty which was unretracted, and down onto the apron. Our Boeing 737-800 awaited us and was glittering in the afternoon light, looking huge and beautiful the smart Ryanair livery. We walked beneath the aircraft wings and up to the rear door. We were greeted by a smiling stewardess in the smart uniform of a royal blue suit and lemon yellow dress. We walked into the cabin and chose thevery last row, row 33 and I sat on the right hand window sear. The cabin was immaculate and the seats were blue with orange and yellow head-rests. After being seated, a welcoming announcement was made, which was followed some minutes later by the mannual safety demonstration. The announcements were loud and clear, and the crew were very warm and professional.
We taxied towards the main runway exactly on-time, and whilst taxiing, the Captain made a welcoming announcement. The weather in Scotlant was to be breezy and rainy and grey. The route would take us over Essex, Manchester, Carlisle and we would land in Prestwick at 17:00.
When we reached the runway, we waited for a few moments, and the engines roared. I was held back into my seat by the G-force. We sped down the runway, and took off. The scenery throughout was spectacular, and I watched as car-parks, houses, blocks of flats and quarries become tiny things that looked like they belonged to a doll's house. When we reached the clouds, they were amazing. I could never tire of looking out of an aircraft window- when you have the whole world miles beneath your seat and you are above the clouds where the sun never stops shining it is the best feeling in the world. I can't understand why people are so obsessed with having TVs inflight- with sights as wonderful as that, who needs them? My nose was pressed against the window for the entire flight.
We started our descent over the coast, and as we glided through the clouds and mist, I saw the harbour near air. The boats looked like models. The sea was amazing clear and a wonderful shade of bottle green. We flew over a rocky beach, and the aircraft seemed tro be silent. As we flew gracefully over a road, I felt I could touch the cars. We gently touched down on Prestwick's main runway, and the engines roared as we rapidly lost speed. We had a short taxi to the stand, and the crew thanked us for choosing to fly with them. Ryanair know how to please: the tickets are next to nothing, the aircraft impeccable and the crew deliver a good, freindly, safe service. I left through the rear exit and touched terra firma once again. This was the best flight of my life.

This is a route that I use around once a month or more. Always a pleasure - except I WISH Ryanair would allocate seat numbers at check-in.
My record price on this route was the last trip - shortly after the NY incident, at £19.98 Sterling. Thats return, and all inclusive of all taxes and charges. The most expensive I've heard of is around £60 - but even that can't be moaned about!

PS: It might seem strange me using FR so much with my username advocating a rival carrier, but I fly out of PIK myself sometimes, so its convienient for me. (Still think that Go's GLA is more convienient for most than FR's PIK - but thats another thread)

Was there any reason why you flew? If you left Doncaster at 10.00am you could have driven there in four hours - only 1.5 hours longer than the drive to Stansted - less than the time you spent waiting for the flight.

LBA, your point is a valid one, something I often think about. Plenty of pros and cons to think about, such as whether its quicker to fly... will the total cost of the journey from point to point be less. Often it isn't worth driving a long way out of your way to fly somewhere. However if the flight is a real bargain, and you like flying like me, why not!
