So after my day at the WTM it was time to head back home. I decided along the way to stop off at Oxford Street and visit my old collegues at Olympic. I rarely get to London these days so it would be a rare opportunity to catch up with everyone.
The OA office. ( My old work place. )
I walked in and everyone was surprised . It was great to see everyone and I spent quite a while there catching up on the news and gossip and chatting about old times. I always remember my time there with happy memories and most I have known for over 15 years so they have become good friends.
After a while it was time to leave . I came out and was greeted with the Christmas lights lit up.
I jumped on the Tube and went to Heathrow. I was quite tired by this stage.
DATE : 11/NOV/2008
Lots of changes to T1. It was very easy to check in though. I went to the Priority Star Gold check in and left my bag. It was only 13.5 kilos full of my WTM things but it seemed heavier when I was pulling it around all day LOL....
Security was fast and in no time I was in the International area which is now where all UK/Irish flights go through. Nice to have the same facilities as everyone else.
This was my first time to enter the new Star lounge .
I want one of those !!!
Good selection of food and drinks .
I decided to take a shower after a long day .
Refreshed I then had some more snacks. I was starving , I didnt really eat all day.
Then I had to try the Chilli
Have to say it was very nice .
Soon it was time to go to Gate 82 , boarding was delayed due to late inbound. I overheard the BMI dispatcher and the gate agents talking about the A330's that are being moved to LHR. He said '' I cant wait until they come down here '' . I bet your MAN collegues dont think that way I thought.
One thing that is not well organised at T1 Irish gates is the way they have to slide the glass door across the hall when an inbound A/C is disembarking. This is to keep the passengers arriving seperate from the departing. It does however block off areas of the hall and if you were running to the gate you would be further delayed until all passengers has got off the said flight. Not the best design I have to say.
After around 20 minutes it was time to board.
Crew were ok not great to be honest. Very authoritarian IMHO. We made our way to the runway and a Malaysian airlines flight took off before us. I then looked behind us and was great to see a SQ A380 . It was like a monster behind us. Looked really impressive. I had 3 failed attempts to get a photo of it as it was too dark.

Soon meal service came round. I ordered a Pepsi and she gave me two cans. Nice enough.
Now this is my issue with BMI. They need to upgrade their ''Bento box'' product. When you look at what Swiss offer on their 1 hour flights I really think that BMI could do better. Maybe with the LH changes this will happen. It just seemed too cheap and plastic for J class. The cutlery was bendy and useless to cut Chicken. It did however taste nice.
If they served it on decent plates or Swiss style caserole mini dishes then it would really make a difference. It cant be that hard to do.
Anyway the rest of the flight was un eventful. I collected my bag off the baggage claim which in fairness was first off with the Priority tag so no complaints there.
I made my way to the Hotel shuttle bus stand .
Night views of T2
I was staying at the Holiday Inn Express as I was flying out the next morning with fellow Irish Anetter and friend Eirules.
I checked in and went to my room. Eirules had already checked in to his room earlier and had gone to bed. It was around Midnight when I arrived. The hotel and room was alot nicer than I expected.
So thats it . I hope you enjoyed this report. Shorter than usual LOL.... Comments , Suggestions and questions appreciated as usual.

Nice report Philip!
The Star Alliance lounge looks very nice but it's a shame that your flight with BD wasn't the best. The presentation of the meal is quite poor for J especially when compared to the Swiss meals which always look very nice. Did the Mars Bar come with the meal? It looks a bit out of place.
T2 looks great, the largest part of the building seems close to completion so the front part of the terminal should be up in no time!

I use BD a lot but as a guest of the BG*G member. I've also tried both the DC Lounge in Domestic T1 and the Star Lounge. One thing about the star lounge is that theres not much warm lighting, its all very white. It also lacks proper daylight and a view which is available in the DC lounge at gate 2.
I have to agree that having previously worked for Aviance at BHD for a year before becoming a student, they really do have issues with sorting the proirity from the riff raff. Half the time the bags arriving from LHR were loaded with the proiritys in first into a loose loaded 319 which if full meant they got delivered to the carousel almost last. Aviance in LHR also liked to send us the ULD's that should have been send to maintenance - open curtains, broken pins and generally destroyed.
I'm travelling LX Business in January and looking forward to it, can't wait to see what the offering is. I should hopefully post my first TR, after all this time on here. MAN-ZRH-GVA-MAN.
Thanks for the TR, some good pics.

Quoting BA319-131 (Reply 6): The new Star Lounge looks pretty decent, like the improved food choices offered, the choices at the BMI lounges before were pathetic.
Agree it looks geat from the photos. However I was not very impressed when I went in there last week (breakfast time) as the food selection was very poor (they had bacon butties etc but nothing for vegetarians). However looks better later in the day.
Philip, were there any vegetarian sandwiches in there (can't tell from the photos)? If not I still prefer the bmi lounge for the shortbread.
Indeed very sad to see especially as some of the A319's are being deployed for the Winter.

Hi yes they do have Veg sandwiches. I dont eat Pork , Ham , Bacon so I often choose the veggie option in lounges. They had about 4 different types IIRC. One thing I did pick up recently in the BMI lounge was Walkers Scottish belgian choc shortbread !! Now those I could eat 24/7.
Yeah! One can tell. I remember last time I was there with all the BA desks around and thousands of people... it looks brighter.
Quoting OA260 (Thread starter): Good selection of food and drinks .

The *A Lounge looks quite impressive. The food looks very tasty and varied and the showers are one of the best I have seen aorund. IMO the best ones I have tried are at MAD T4S.

True words. I think we are a little bit spoiled by LX and it is difficult to achieve their levels by other partners.
Anyway, an enjoyable TR for a short hop.

I enjoyed the read. Something different for you, and a nice change from the usual LX reports tobe honest Anyway, I flew BD quite a few times in C on their AMS-LHR flights, and was always pleasantly surprised by their attention and meal, when I compare to e.g. KL. But, maybe things have changed since then. That Star Alliance lounge looks indeed pretty cool and well stocked with the various food options

I suppose you had a great trip on the DLR to and from Excel. What a fiasco it was!
Liked your trip report and agree with the others about the poor food service style in C. I would be well miffed at that offer.

after taking some deep breaths of fresh greece air, now I´am back and ready to follow
your latest story.
Informative and nice pix as always.
The lounge stuff looks indeed much better than the food on BD.
