Hi Everyone!

This is my first TR, so let me know if you have any suggestions on how I can become a better poster.

That said, these pictures are from Summer 2007 when I went to Paris for a long weekend with my mom (who is a DL F/A based in CVG and, in my opinion, as a frequent premium class business traveler, an amazing one). I traveled quite a bit with her growing up, which was certainly a treat (and, I definitely miss having the travel benefits these days  Smile ).

Since I love airliners.net, I wanted to take a decent number of pictures to document the trip for everyone since I quite enjoy reading TRs at work.

I travel quite a bit - and, ninety-nine percent of it is on Delta, which is, in my view, the best American airline. I have flown DL between CVG-CDG and JFK-CDG roughly twenty times in the past ten years, and each trip has been consistently good.

That said, I will let the pictures do the talking.

DL 44 - CVG-CDG
767-300ER
J Load - 80%
Y Load - 100%

Below are a few shots I took while waiting at the airport:

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 131kb
Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 128kb

This 767-3ER was about to push-back for FRA.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 102kb

My boarding pass:

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 97kb

Menus were passed out on the ground with champagne, mimosas and water. There was a trolley distributing several international newspapers (though no NYTimes, which I think should be standard in J class). Amenity kits were in the seatback pockets while blankets and pillows were folded neatly in each seat. Dinner orders were taken prior to push-back.

I was originally in row six, which I hate on this plane. But, I eventually moved to row five as it was empty, farther from the galley and the seats have better pitch. I was disappointed that this particular 767ER had the old BE seats; my return trip to Kennedy, however, was fortunately equipped with the updated ones.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 101kb

Cocktails were expeditiously served after we leveled. I had a gin and tonic and enjoyed the warm nuts.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 89kb

Leg room view - note the Bear Stearns bag... vintage.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 129kb

My mom setting the table for the passengers in front of me. I like the 3 tiered cart set-up. Very old school, classy service aspect I think (like Pan-Am in the good days).

Big version: Width: 375 Height: 500 File size: 139kb

Appetizer was really good - shrimp and something else (sorry, it was a year ago).

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 143kb

This was followed by a salad. The dressing was OK - definitely better coming back from Europe.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 135kb

Michele Bernstein's steak with some kind of puree and Brussels sprouts. I was not a fan of this course - her menu has since gotten better (this was her first cycle I think). It did taste better than the presentation (that meal was apparently very hard to prepare in the mid-galley according to my mom's friend who was in charge of plating and coordinating the food flow of the J service).

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 147kb

Desert sundae. I also had port and cheese but failed to document it. DL has really good port offerings, in my opinion.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 75kb

Our journey across the pond:

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 122kb

The J class cabin mid-flight.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 100kb

Breakfast was served one hour before we landed at CDG. There was an egg option, but I don't like eggs, so I went with cereal.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 134kb

We landed quite a bit early and getting through customs was very easy.

A few pics around Paris...

My old subway stop when I was a student in Paris in 2001-2002.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 140kb

Me and a beer in Paris.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 158kb

Mom and a Kir Royale.

Big version: Width: 375 Height: 500 File size: 128kb

Mom and me at the Arc.

Big version: Width: 375 Height: 500 File size: 123kb

Now, the return trip.

Checking in at Terminal 2E at CDG. Beautiful design.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 107kb

We left out of E65(?) which gave a great view of planes passing by.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 85kb
Big version: Width: 375 Height: 500 File size: 131kb
Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 141kb

E is such a beautiful terminal with really nice seats in which to relax!

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 114kb
Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 128kb

So, back to Kennedy (my home airport).

DL 119 - CDG-JFK
767-300ER
J Load - 50%
Y Load - 80%

Same situation as before (though my mom was not working the flight - she went back to CVG). This JFK based crew, though, was fantastic and utterly professional.

So, lunch was the 'big' meal served.

Here is the appetizer: It was excellent.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 120kb

The salad was fantastic - very fresh with a great dressing. Note the pretzel bread. I had about 4 pieces. In my opinion, it is the greatest benefit of flying in DL BE!

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 131kb

The entree, mac and cheese (if I remember correctly) and steak, was fantastic It was really, really yummy and cooked properly.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 129kb

This plane had the new BE seats. Here is the leg room pic.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 140kb

The new seat.

Big version: Width: 500 Height: 375 File size: 113kb

So that is it. Great trip all around. I know I may be biased since I come from a DL family, but they honestly offer the best all-around package. When I fly other US airlines for work (out of necessity), I am always very open-minded and excited to see their product. It does not, however, even come close to DL.

Hope you enjoyed!

Great trip report! I loved your holiday photos and the architecture of the airport looks amazing.

I agree. I'm hoping to take them (via JFK or CDG) when i move back home!

I've never had a bad international flight to or from CVG.

Good Report! Thanks for the pictures.

I realized this was 2007, but thank gosh DL replaced the old Biz seats, that wasn't exactly looking good compared to AA's and UA even.

I am waiting to see how the merger with DL/NW go, maybe I shall switch. haha

You mentioned you travel for work, do you try to choose DL or does the business book it and you just collect the miles as you go, if you can answer that?

Thanks again for reporting

Alex

Hey Bsteph! Very cool trip report! Thank you very much for taking the time to write it and post it. DL is my favorite U.S. carrier and, therefore, I enjoy reading reports on DL flights, especially when the poster had a good in-flight experience!

I sent you an instant message a few seconds ago. I hope you receive it.  Smile

Hi Everyone - thanks for the comments. I enjoy reading them.

DL and BA are preferred carriers. Trips to LHR are ALWAYS on BA (sometimes we get put on VS, but it is rare). DL is used for the rest of Europe generally. And, I do get to collect quite a few miles  Wink

Quoting BA319-131 (Reply 6):

Yeah - the other, non-steak options were really well presented. However, as I said, my mom told me that this particular entree was difficult to make look pretty. DL has since updated their menu and it is much more "gourmet" looking.

It was amazing - I am so Franco/Anglophilic!

Great TR! I do find DL has some of the best in flight crew going. Having flown to Europe ex-CVG, JFK, and ATL, I do find that the CVG crews are the most laid back.

As to Port: DL is better than BA I think, though to LHR, I'm right behind you on the BA cheering booth section.

Dave

Can I have a mojito on this flight?

In a good or a bad way? I am finding that the NYC crews are more laid back as they are younger and newer employees. They are still very professional.

Bsteph,

Excellent report, and great photos.

I have to assume I have seen your mom in ATL from time to time, because she looks really familiar.

I love our crews. Big grin

Quoting BA319-131 (Reply 6):
- Hmm, not the most impressive of presentations.

I agree with you there.

But, I just flew to ARN and back in BE, and their presentation has changed considerably even from this April when I flew them last to DUB. While the app is served in a tray format, I generally found the food presentation much, much better now.

I wonder if DL can keep it up; I am flying them to CPH this weekend.

Just as a side note, I love the new style of the amenity kit as well. The old red, fold-over style bag was bad. The new one is pretty neat!
