Reason for Trip
This time I need to make a trip to Munich regarding a product launch with one of our products. As usual I will not post anything with regards to my Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok and vice versa as I have already traveled on this route so many times. For the long haul, I will as usual fly TG in F and connecting with LH the next morning to Munich. However for the return leg, I decided to fly the A346, hence me doing a Munich-Zurich routing with Swiss and then TG in F back from Zurich to Bangkok. Enjoy reading! As usual, my CGK-KUL-BKK routings will be without any report as I really fly this routing too often!

Pre Flight
Plenty of time to spend in Bangkok, which is not a problem. As usual I was picked up by a nice and friendly agent at the aerobridge who took my by electric cart to the Royal First Lounge. As usual, I decided to get a full body massage and after that I just relaxed all the way in the lounge till I was picked up for boarding.

In Flight
Surprisingly, this is going to be a really light load to Frankfurt with only 3 passengers.
Amenity kit and pyjamas
Lets have a look at the menu for today
Plenty of room for everyone, but a great service will be ensured due to the great ratio of pax to f/a!
Empty terminal today
Soon we were airbourne and captain announced that the routing will take us past Myanmar, Bay of Bengal, Caspian Sea, Ukraine and then into Western Europe.
First 2 hours of the flight was pretty bumpy due to the cloudy skies but the rest of the flight was fine. As expected service was fine, although catering was top notch,
Sunset in to the night
nothing on the AVOD caught my attention to I just decided to watch some movies from my laptop. While falling into my sleep with my Ipod plugged in, I started wondering how sad it will be in the near future as in the near future both of my favourite airlines, MH and TG will get their whalejets and we will sooner or later bid farewell to the great B747 which served us for decades.

The rest of the flight went past effortlessly and soon I was already checking in at the Sheraton Frankfurt hotel for my quick overnight stay.

After a quick night, I woke up early so that I can meet up with my colleague who were arriving on the SQ flight. After meeting up, we checked in together for the LH flight. Not to our surprise the Senator lounge was filled to the brim so we just deiced to find some empty seats near the gate and just chit chat out time away. Flight today will be slightly delayed.

Pre Flight
Foggy morning in Munich today. Had a feeling flights might be delayed a bit. Most of my time in Munich was spent running up and down to get the different stamps for my tax refund. The main problem for me was that the aircraft was departing from a non EU gate so it was quite a hassle getting there after getting my refunds done.
Look at that fog coming in!

Load in J was around 60% but I was lucky as I had the row to myself. There was 1 really cheerful and happy male purser serving J pax. The aircraft itself was in immaculate condition, and also had the new Recaro seats in them.

Love those cute stubby engines!

Start of descend
Overall I loved and enjoyed this short flight with LX and I will definitely fly them again real soon when I have the chance.
Pre Flight
After arrival, had a long walk to the international departures terminal, they had some issues with the boarding pass as the machine went out of its mind. Aftrerwards, I went into the Belleveue Lounge where I had something to eat and also just killed them before the flight. Managed to go to the very packed smoking room and then straight to boarding after that.

In Flight
No empty seats in F this time round and the A346 is really not a nice place for F as when its full there is really not a lot of privacy. But other than that, the flight it self was good and service as usual was flawless. Other then some bad turbulence over Austria, everything else went smoothly.

Overall this was just an average flight in F, I guess due to the full load of passengers in F, the FA’s were kept busy all the while. Hope you guys enjoyed my TR, the following sectors are without pictures as I was so dead beat. My next TR to be posted will be a quick one with MH in J to Perth.

Very nice report, as usual! I'm just curious why you didn't use TG's nonstop BKK-MUC flight?

Quoting Alaskaqantas (Reply 1): As in what you would want in a F seat on the A380?
Yup thats absolutely true, so I said I preferred a fully private suite like SQ or EK, plus having a shower would also be a nice idea
Quoting LH459 (Reply 2): Very nice report, as usual! I'm just curious why you didn't use TG's nonstop BKK-MUC flight?
Thats very simple, the usual BKK-MUC is notorious for being exchanged for the older 7442 configurations with the old F seats, whereas on the FRA flights, around 95% of the time they always put the 7443 config aircraft on the route, so just getting the bang for my buck

What a drastic change of scenery from the tranquil cabin of the 744 to the awfully cramped AB6 complete with a toddler running about!
As usual... the spoils of long haul premium travel so aptly presented by you. Are you able to travel long haul in steerage after getting pampered like that all the time? I strangely didn't see any shots of yuor wife's handbag this time.

- I thought the same thing!
Seems TG service and catering are still top notch, food looked very good.
Interesting the outbound flight had such a low F content, by contrast the return with a full F cabin must have been quite a shock!

Hahah this time it was a business trip, so she stayed put to look after the homeland! Actually its not so much about not being able to travel in steerage, but i guess i like my space eheheh i don't like crowds so ..i guess i pay the premium for my personal space

It was! And as you know the A346 cabin is no where as wide as a B744 or B777 so it also seemed pretty cramped!
Quoting StefanPAD (Reply 6): remember that TG operated the A346 MUC-BKK some time ago. Maybe only in summer?
Meals are looking delicious. Were you satisfied?
Actually been quite some time since TG changed the A346 to a B744.......

Another triumphant trip report!
I always enjoy reading your reports, especially the Thai Air trips. Of all the airlines Ive flown with none have been as hospitable as Thai.
I also agree with you about the 744's. I am flying on them when I can and yes its sad to think that in the not too distant future the major carriers will be retiring them.
Also enjoyed that smoking room Filled out the same form regarding TG F on the 380, and advised them on a more private seat (suite) and better in flight entertainment system
Will try to finish my report on those flights soon.

Great report!
The F lounge in BKK looked nice, though I'm very surprised that they had smoking rooms there. The food in TG's F looked top notch! Actually one of the few times i have found premium class airline food to look like something you could have been served in a restaurant. Though the canapés on the second flight looked more like open faced sandwiches to me
The amount of food served for breakfast on the LX flight looked great, did you even have time finishing all the food in less than 40 mins? Did you get champagne served in a (that) tumbler, on the LX flight?
The old intl J seats on the LH A306 looked very nice, though aren't they going to put gray leather seat covers on them in order to match with the rest of the Y interior. How comes that LH aren't fitting those seats on the narrowbody planes, that would have been great.
Thanks for sharing!
I won't stop complaining until SAS reintroduces free service in Economy Class!

Quoting SASDC8 (Reply 11): Had the pleasure of flying TGP BKK-FRA but I was in 2k Smile Got TGO on my FRA-BKK leg and with only 4 pax in F it was a truly exceptional flight Wink
Quoting SASDC8 (Reply 11): Will try to finish my report on those flights soon.
Hey Stein!! Really looking forward to your TR !! Hurry and finish it up ...I also still have 2 TR pending to be posted, one was a PER trip in Nov and the other was my Japan trip which I just got back from last week. You should see me in a NH domestic B744 ahahha who needs A380 when you can fit 529 seats already in B744
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 12): The F lounge in BKK looked nice, though I'm very surprised that they had smoking rooms there.
Actually smoking rooms are the last piece of haven for smokers like me
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 12): did you even have time finishing all the food in less than 40 mins? Did you get champagne served in a (that) tumbler, on the LX flight?
Actually yeah i did. It wasnt champagne in the tumbler it was Apfelshole, apple uice with soda water
Quoting LH4116 (Reply 12): How comes that LH aren't fitting those seats on the narrowbody planes, that would have been great.
I guess the main reason is that LH wants the flexibility to use either J or Y seats as when demands seems fit, so they are staying with the recaro convertible Y seats on the narrowbodies!

Another proof the F cabin on board a 744 is the best choice in public air travel. I´ve had two flights in First Class on a Thai 744, also FRA-Bangkok, and they were wonderful. A340, 777 or MD11 cant compare at all, as the front cabin is walk-through and is of the ordinary tube - shape.
