For christmas my entire family (many people) decided to rent two beach front houses in Santa Marta - Colombia. Well, my family live in Bogota and they purchased tickets to SMR in P5 but I purchased mine in AV of course !  Smile

My trip starts in MIAMI:

AVIANCA (Airways of the American Continent)

I did not go to the VIP room. A friend of mine was traveling coach. He works for AV and he was waiting for an available jump seat and he told me that when traveling like that, they are forbidden to use the VIP room, so I stayed with him.

After great vacations, three types of airplane, AV great service, I feel great to start working my a$$ off and start paying all the December expenses.. LOL!

I am very lucky of being able to trying out the A-330 three times from/to MIA, now that this destination will get the 767s again due to the decision of AV to use the two new 330's to the Spain routes. The 330 is definitely a very comfortable plane, like it a lot.

I hope you enjoyed this TR! More to come soon (hopefully).

Hola Ricardo!

Thanks for this interesting TR. You are now the best asset that Avianca has.

The J cabin in the A330 looks really nice and the food really great. Well done AV, together combined with Colombian coffee must be a really great experience.

I was just missing, as the song says, a picture of Santa Marta's train. 'Santa Marta tiene tren pero no tiene tranvía'.

Salut!

Roger

I just wanted to express how I enjoyed seeing your trip report on Avianca and Colombia. I was born in Bogota and lived there until I was 12. So I always enjoy seeing pictures of el Dorado and the city whenever I can. Hope to make it back to Bogota in November this year, hear the city has really changed in many ways. I remember a flight back from Cartagena on an old Avianca Constellation. When my mother stood up to exit the plane, her heel went through the floor and got stuck. Fond memories! We even were allowed to bring our boxes of "live' crabs inside the cabin from the beach back to Bogota. Thanks for the report. James Hurst

Excellent report and great pictures. I love the tropical feel of the airport in Santa Marta, far from fancy, but very nice.

Legroom in the new J class looks rather tight in other pictures. How did you like it? Also, the seat is angled-flat, not lie-flat, right?

Thanks for sharing.

Nice report Ricardo, thanks for posting.

The J cabin in these 330's looks nice, though legroom looks a little tight, is it about the same as AA's, 68-70" ?

Shame these are being pulled from the MIA route, hoever they are better suited to the MAD route.

Mark

No, I meant the A330. Good to hear it's actually better than it looks.

What were you offered on the BOG-SMR-BOG flights on J? Last time I flew BOG-MDE on J, I was only offered a choice between any alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, though it was a late-night flight.

Hi RICARIZA,

A great trip report. Thank you for all your efforts.

The new Business Class on the A330 looks quite impressive, especially the legroom and the PTV. Too bad, as you said, the 767s are soon going to be put on the MIA-BOG route; enjoy it while you can!!

Who knows if this applies to early morning flights as well...

This seems kind of cheap to me. I know most US airlines offer only beverage service on domestic F in flights below 2 hours, but knowing that virtually ALL domestic flights in Colombia are below 2 hours, they should at least offer a cold snack on the longer routes.

I do seem to recall a picture that somebody put on Myaviation of a meal in a BOG-ADZ flight. I might be wrong though.

Avianca is such a good airline with a consistent and reliable service. I flew avianca last summer and was positively impressed with the level of service, the good mannered crew, puente areo terminal attention.. everything was just perfect, the only downside was that my mother's luggage didnt make it to PTY with us but they had it delivered to the hotel next day.....
As I always say I hope some day (in the near future hopefully) Venezuela can have an airline as good as colombia does.

BEST REGARDS, EDGAR.
