Day Trip: London-Paris Avec Buzz

The first thing to say is that I managed to take a few photos of my trip to Paris today.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The second, is that I was impressed by buzz service, and would recommend the airline to all readers.

We started at Stansted airport at 0530 (a friend and I), to check-in for my first flight to Paris CDG.

To my surprise, the airport check-in area was *PACKED*
with pax flying on GO, Ryanair and buzz.

We were checking in next to a flight leaving for Berlin, and the queue was fairly short. Check-in was performed competently and expediently-the whole process lasted all of 30 seconds-all we needed to do was hand over our passports; they didn't even need the internet booking reference-if only all airlines did this!

Well, I was asked if I wanted window or aisle; naturally, I asked for window, and also requested the last row (row 20, on the BAe 146), which I got.

We were called to the gate area at about 5.55am, and there, in the cool dark of the winter's morning, was our yellow bird, attached to the gpu.

Boarding commenced at 6.20am, in a very orderly fashion. We walked halfway down the airbridge, and then emerged down some steps at the side, where we were met by a cool blast of icy wind, and the roar of the 146's apu running.

We boarded through the rear steps, and as I was first in the queue to board, I managed to grab a shot of our plane before going up the steps.

Turned left, and then left again, and there was my purple seat 20A!

We pushed back on time at 6.45am, had the nornal safety drills and Captain's welcome, with promises of great weather in Paris (and it was!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy ).

We taxied out to the r/w, and performed a very speedy take-off, turning left after gaining a couple of 1000ft altitude, just as the sun was rising (I took more photos).

Our max height was actually quite low (19k ft), and the flight time was a very short 50 minutes.

There was a bar service, but the prices were a rip-off, and I was planning on having breakfast in Paris-which I did!

The descent into Paris was quite interesting, although I was on the wrong side to see the city. The area around CDG is VERY flat, it looks quite eery.

Well, we made a smooth landing, and as we taxied along the r/w, I managed to see a AF 747-200 land (I took another photo, naturally).

Airlines at CDG this morning were: Air Gabon x2 (742 and 737), Thai 744, SQ 744, Saudi Arabian 777, Kuwait A300-600, United 777 x2, lots of BA a/c of various makes & glorious sunshine.

Again, we deplaned via stairs, right next to the nose of a UA777 getting prepared for a flight to Chicago.

The flight was great, and the views stunning.

Sorry if the structure of this report seems hasty and poor, but I am very tired as a result of walking all day in Paris, which is THE BEST CITY IN THE WORLD!!-no doubt about it. These people really know the meaning of "civilised".

Practically falling asleep here, I'll do the return trip on here tomorrow (I just got back).

LGW, was that on the 1st November too? Did you also get an early flight?

The only other buzz flights being checked-in at 0530, were Berlin, Paris, Milan & Dusseldorf.

Anyway, the return journey was a little less exciting, as for me, the main enjoyment is flying TO a holiday/break destination.

buzz flies from CDG Terminal 1, which is a horrible building, not unlike a 1970's concrete multi-storey car park.

We checked in at the buzz counter at about 8.15pm, which was also used by KLM.

Other flights being checked-in were BA, Sun d'or/Israir going to Tel Aviv, and two Varig flights, one to Sao Paulo & Porto Alegre, the other to Rio.

Check-in again was very quick (we had no luggage), and again I asked and got seat 20A.

The check-in lady had so much make-up on her face, it looked as if she was made of wax, and she would have made a marvellous exhibit at Madame Tussaud's in London.

Well, after all that, we made our way through the chaos of the check-in area, and boarded one of those moving walkways to our departure lounge.

I was a bit disappointed that all the shops & bars were closed!! It was not even 9pm, and this was an international airport!!! Nothing open!

Well, to make things a bit worse, our flight was now delayed by 1 hour.

But this gave me a chance to walk around the departure lounge, and watch various a/c being prepared.

There was a Varig MD-11 (being prepared for the flight to Sao Paulo & Porto Alegre), and then a Varig 763 getting ready for it's flight to Rio.

I watched the MD-11 first officer do the rounds (the pre-flight walk-around inspection on the tarmac), with his very poor quality torch-why don't they just buy a maglite torch??

The Varig aircrew had previously strolled up to the gate & boarded the a/c; they are the only aircrew I have seen, that wear white caps! They looked like Navy sailors, and I swear the Captain was the reincarnation of Benny Hill (maybe Benny Hill is now an airline Captain for the Brazilian airline.....?)-oops, sorry he's dead isn't he???!!

Ok, back to normality. Our buzz a/c eventually arrived, and we were called to board at about 10pm.

The Varig MD-11 pax were now also boarding at the gate next door.

Again, we boarded by the rear steps, and the Captain came on to say Hello, bla bla-the usual stuff.

Well, we ended up taxing to the r/w with that Varig MD-11. Whilst it continued right to the very start of the r/w, we cut in somewhere around the first 1/3 of the r/w and did a quick take-off whilst the Varig MD-11 was still lining up behind.

We gained a couple of 1000ft, and then began a bank to the left. As we turned left, the r/w we had just used came to sight, and I spotted the Varig MD-11 climbing into the air behind us-great sight!

The rest of the flight wasn't very interesting really and I decided to just listen to my discman.

Our landing at STN was pefect (if a bit late-1030pm instead of 940pm) but for 38 pounds, it was a good enough deal!

An Atlas Air 744 came in behind us. Again, we deplaned at the rear, and rushed off to catch the bus back to Cambridge!

Nice trip report. Never done Buzz before but heard decent response. Which terminal do Buzz use at CDG? I flew into CDG 1 about 4 weeks ago and found it dirty, decrepid, and disgusting. Not enough immigration and very slow baggage delivery. Wondering your thoughts?

Hi Mcmahonsmr.

As I wrote (but you didn't spot  Wink/being sarcastic ), buzz uses CDG 1, which I agree totally, is very ugly.

There was only one desk open at immigration, but we were a small flight, and since we all had British passports, the procedure was very quick.

We had no luggage, as it was only a day trip. I take it you must have flown United, if using T1? Or was it AA?

T2 is brand new, very similar to HKG in style-big emphasis on glass, letting light through, etc.

I've done the ol Cambridge - Paris day trip with Buzz too and your right, nice airline and great city.
