Hello to you all once again!

As my last daytrip was cut short thanks to oversold flights, I decided I needed to fly again. This time it was JFK-CLT-JFK and it all worked out! I got two upgrades so I could fly in First Class.

I decided to fly to CLT on the 959 flight as F class had seats in it. I got dropped off at Terminal 7 at about 825.

I then went over to the US Airways check in and was welcomed by a short line and friendly agents. I was already checked in online but wanted to get another NR upgrade for my way home.

We continued down the coast for a while before going more inland. It was a clear day and beautiful!

Soon the snacks came out and I took generous portions of my favorite Fiesta Snack Mix and Biscoff.

Then my Diet Coke arrived:

I have one main thing to say about CLT before I continue…

I was on the ground for about 1hr and 30minutes. Not too long…but still, the entire time I was at CLT the only commercial airline I saw was US Airways. The only other planes I saw were FedEx and UPS. Honestly, CLT is officially US Airways city.

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos407.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos405.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos411.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos413.jpg

We arrived early and had to wait a few minutes for a gate.

All US Airways:

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos415.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos417.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos419.jpg

I then waited for most passengers to get off before I got out of my seat. I walked up to the F/A and asked him if I could take a few pictures of the cockpit. He asked the FO and he said yes!

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos424.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos423.jpg

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos422.jpg

The FO was really nice and took my picture:

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k281/Murraymountain91/Tommysphotos426.jpg

The FO was really nice and we chatted for a few minutes. I felt bad afterwards as the F/A told me he could not leave until I did but we chatted and laughed as he walked me out. I then asked him if he was going right back to JFK and he said yes. I then told him I was as well and he laughed with me.

Took one more pic of the F seats before I left:

It was a nice flight. I sat next to an American Airlines flight attendant who was on her way home. She was supposed to come the day before but we had snow in New York. I chatted a bit with her and she showed me her town on Long Island. I had a bit of a LI chat with her as I grew up on LI. (I winged it a bit as I was young)

Across from her was another AA F/A. She was going on to Zurich! Exciting! I wished I was going along!

All in all, it was a fun flight! Had more good snacks and looked out my window! Nothing new, so my next pictures are of our decent.

That’s it Im afraid. I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the ride! Next time I travel F class, I would like to go a bit further. JFK-PHX must be fun in first.

That’s all for now, thanks for reading and good night.

Some really nice pics! Looked like a great day for flying.

The airport on your JFK-CLT flight was IAD, and at a guess I'd say the river was either the Susquehanna or the Potomac...

Surprised other airline's FAs got into the F cabin on these flights. You'd think a major business destination to a hub would fill with elites...maybe the LGA moreso though.

Nice report, and wonderful pictures. Traveling in F (or Y) is fun!

I do have to say, those F seats look like the ones on the 737-400 on Alaska, minus the headrest. The middle console looks similar, the seat pocket does, and the general shape. Just a different color. Maybe they are a newer version of the older AS seat?

Possible...since those seats are the old American West seats. The original US domestic F class seats are different.

Not much of a true first class product that US offers. Not even real glasses and just snacks, not all that different then FL now is it.

Nice report. You don't get a lot of US Airways trip reports out of JFK. Charlotte is US Airways' biggest hub. I believe they have 574 departures per day. The one time I flew US Airways out of JFK was in May 2007, JFK-LAS. It was an Airbus A320, painted in the new livery, but was an ex-America West interior. It was a very good flight. Left on time. Arrived on time.

Anyway, great pictures and descriptions. I was thinking that was IAD also, but wasn't going to speak up because I'm not sure of myself, but glad others have filled you in on that.

I'm glad you had a good experience on US. It seems they get such poor press here, but I had two really good experiences with them about a month ago (a trip report I haven't done yet..sorry!).

Thanks for sharing!

The reason you did not see any other airlines is because you were on the starboard side of the aircraft, and landed on 18C. If you had been on the port side A concourse would have been clearly visible, and that is where everyone else is.

The 727 parked out by the cargo facility is owned by Jack Roush of Roush Racing. If you had been able to see a bit around the corner you would have seen an identical one parked there.

Being both flights were original HP aircraft, probably reason for having the old HP seats.

Maybe but that's something that struck me in your TR. US doesn't even bother to use proper glasses anymore and man! The legroom for First looks TIGHT!
I do believe AA and UA at least still use proper glassware and plates in their so-called "First" class these days. This is when I shake my head when I hear Canadians complain about Air Canada. On a YOW-YYZ flight of 50 minute duration, I got a fruit bowl with yoghurt as big as a good-sized soup bowl and 2 real glasses of fresh OJ after take-off (served on actual porcelain and glass). So, while it may be standard on US, they are much better business classes for North American domestic flights though. I just wouldn't pay for this so-called First product.

Anyhow, nice TR!

Safeflyer,

check out my other TR. I went on US in F class from JFK to PHX. For breakfast, it was served on real plates with real silverwear. I have pictures of the meal.

I don't know for sure, but I think the US F class leg room is similar to others. I know it is similar for Alaska Air and Delta is actually a little tighter. (I think its DL...possibly UA)

I did check your TR and I totally understand that they do provide better service on longer flights. My point is, when you pay premium prices for a premium product, one could at least expect a proper glass in first and some kind of snack a little better than what was served in the back up to 2-3 years ago on short flights. When you compare US Domestic First with N.A *A equivalent competitors (UA and AC), both come out offering a vastly superior product. Don't get me wrong, I know UA are no angels and have been cutting back!

As far as pitch is concerned, it's around 35' on the 320s at US. UA has Domestic F at 38'.DL ranges from 37-40'. Other *A partner AC has it at 39' on the 319 and 321, 38' on the 320.
All offer superior products for roughly the same fares. It's sad to see US just doesn't get you need to invest money to make money.

Nice report!

The F seats on US, looked great, almost up to par with some other airline's intl J seats.
When it comes to the in-flight service provided, i must say that i was rather shocked to see how bad it was. Only snacks, and diet coke served in F, seems very cheap, here in Europe, that's not even something you would expect to get in Y on a 1hr flight.

And yes i know that the service in F have suffered from some serious cut downs. I have got the impression of that almost every dirt cheap paying coach pax in the USA, is always running around expecting an upgrade for every flight he/she makes  thumbsdown
Now, i feel very sorry for both the airline and the full fare paying pax. The full fare pax, won't get what he have paid for, and the airline won't be able to as much profit as they could have.

Anyway, i really enjoyed reading your report, and thank you for posting.

I understand what your saying and I agree with the glass part. I also agree with your other points to a certain extent.
