Aircraft: Boeing 747-430
Ezeiza: I arrived at Ezeiza airport two hours before my schedule departure time at 16.40 hs. to Frankfurt and then connecting to Amsterdam. The new terminal was quite empty so check-in was very fast demanding only 10 minutes.
Once past immigration I proceded to the boarding gates. On gate 8 was the Lufthansa aircraft while next to it, on gate 9, a Malaysia Airlines B747-400 recently arrived from Kuala Lumpur while and on gate 7 a B767 from Air Canada was parked. Farther away other aircraft seen were Varig MD11 and 737s, TAM' A320. One the unused runway I spotted several Aerolineas Argentinas aircract including two B747, one A340 and varoius B737s.
Pushback started 10 minutes before the scheduled departing time so then ten minutes later we were airborn. We taxied to runway 11 and there we waited for a Lan Chile A320 landing from Santiago. The 747 did a long run on runway 11 and soon we were climbing over the southern districts of Buenos Aires towards the Rio de la Plata. This is the longest route from EZE so the take off is impressive as the aircraft used almost every inch of the runway.
Flight time to Frankfurt was 12 hours 55 minutes. We flew over the river to Uruguay past Colonia and then on a strait line towards Porto Alegre. Then through the coastal route over Brazil to Rio de Janeiro, then Recife to initiate the South Atlantic crossing which later took us over the Cape Verde Islands. Then we entered the African continent in Marocco flying over Casablanca followed then Spain over Madrid continuing to Geneve and the straight to Frankfurt.
The aircraft it looked well mantained in the inside, everything was perfect and the coulours used by LH (grey and yellow) are very pleasant. The aircraft was 80% full, many passengers coming on connecting flights from Santiago where the flight originated. I was seated on row 38B. Legroom in Economy was fine. One hour after departure we were served dinner and one of the options were the classical pasta or chicken. On screens all data on the aircraft position, speed and maps is shown while this was interrumped to show the entertainment program including the news.
On my area we had two cabin crew. One was a man how was very unpolite and quite rude. He insisted on speaking to us on German even knowing we don't speak the language. I was seated with a Dutch friend and another Argentinean girl. His attitude towards the job was careless I would say, however, the other cabin crew was far the opposite. She was a Spanish young woman and was very good and professional. Helpful and friendly. Is a pity because most LH staff is very good, they don't smile but they strictly follow a service book.
One feature I really liked was that during the night if you are thirsty or hungry you can go to the galley where there is a sort of "open bar". There you can serve yourself several kinds of drinks, snacks and sandwiches. Then also during the night crews come with trays with drinks for the awaked passengers.
Turbulence was experienced quite often during this long flight flying over Brazil and then the Atlantic. Everytime the sign was on the cabin personnel checked with a lintern that every passenger had their seat belts on. The Captain once ordered the crews to return to the seats but the turbulence was not too hard lasting around ten minutes due to thunderstorms.
One hour and a half before arrival to Frankfurt we were served a continental breakfast which included bread, butter and croissant and a warm potato pie.
We arrived to Frankfurt airport 20 minutes before the scheduled arrival time. It was very nice because the aircraft parked on a very remote position so we used stairs and buses to go to the terminal. One can really appreciate how big is the 747 by walking to the buses this way. Then the trip by bus was also very exciting as you can see close several aircraft such as Air Nambia 747-400 or SAA 747-300, Qantas or other Asian 747-400s.
Veredict: Lufthansa is a very good and realiable carrier. Recommended to anyone on long trips such as this. The onboard service is more "by the book" so do not expect to see a warm service, just polite, no smiles but overall good.

Must have been a cool routing that you had there. Flying along the coast to Rio de Janeiro, Recife and then even flying over Africa. Also a pretty long one for the northbound.
My routing almost a year ago on the way to and from Paris was a more continental one which led us to Brasilia, Fortaleza, Cap Verdian Islands and then Canaries and Portugal.
One question, did you sleep most of the flight or why didn't you kinda find it boring on such a long flight without a PTV ? Or don't you care about a PTV ?

Thanks for the report Lima-we take exactly the same routing with BA, except we stay farther West past the Canaries, whilst you guys seem to head for North-West Africa/Mediterranean (we only pass over Bilbao briefly, then Bay of Biscay....to London).
Great to hear about the Lufthansa service-I would say that it is pretty similar with BA.
Where is Lufthansa check-in at EZE? Didn't know Air Canada was still flying to Argentina.
BTW, we always, always get turbulence when flying between Europe & South America, especially near the Equator.

Thank you very much. The route through Fortaleza and Brasilia seems the other mostly used.
I had never flown an aircraft with PTV so I don't really know. On this flight they showed two or three films. One during breakfast before arriving in FRA.
At EZE Lufthansa has its check in on the eastern side of the new terminal, next to the Varig area and near the arrivals hall. On this area also has the check in United so they seem to group according to Star Alliance. Check in personnel was very good and careful on passenger needs. You could see them again on the gate wishing you a good trip.

I forgot to tell something and perhaps someone working for Lufthansa might know.
After landing from Buenos Aires I spent two hour connecting at Frankfurt. As mentioned the aircraft D-ABMV used stairs to deplane at the end of the airfield. Later when I was on the terminal I spotted ABMV being towed to one of the piers to another gate. Before I left I saw it being prepared for another flight.
Amazing how short turnaround! Does anybody know where the aircraft was heading that day (Nov. 5) in the afternoon? maybe someone LH can help?
