Reason for Trip
Its X’mas time and thus time for me to do some travelling. With all my mileage I gathered during the year, I managed to claim 2 J tickets with MH to Tokyo. We also decided to pay a visit for a couple of days to Sapporo as we have not been there before (I did not tell the wife the main reason to go Tokyo was to try out domestic J in Japan!)

Seat : 5A (Golden Club Class / Business Class)
Flight Time: 1hr 35min
Pre Flight
As most of you guys already know, I do not usually write up on my CGK-KUL-CGK sectors, but this time I decided to do so as there was a last minute equipment change from an A333 to B772ER. Not too sure why as although he flight was pretty full in both classes, the A333 actually seats more passengers. Maybe cargo load was the reason.
MRN waiting for us to board
In Flight
Nothing much to write up on this short hop, but as usual a full hot meal was served and as you might have expected, a great MH inflight crew as usual.

AVOD was also turned on for this shop hop to KUL

Pre Flight
My overnight stay at the Westin KL was great, and the perks of being a SPG Platinum member, I got upgraded to a deluxe suite upon check in. Our 24 hours in KL was spent meeting up with old friends and just having a great time as everyone was relaxed towards this holiday season. We arrived at the airport with 2 hours to spare and I decided to park my butt at the Golden Club Lounge whereas my wife and sis in law decided to walk around the duty free stores.
View from the entrance of the Golden Lounge, really nice lighting

Really great being aboard another MH flight, and as usual a great cabin crew welcomed us aboard.

I noticed there were 7 empty seats in J, but it was full to the brim back in Y.

Once we reached cruise, the AVOD was turned on, but they had several problems with it and had to restart it several times. But after about 15mins, it was up and running fine.
As it was a late night departure to NRT, we were only served satay.
We slept through most of the flight and we woke up around 1 hour before descent to a great meal of the famous Nasi Lemak.
Top of descent and getting ready for arrivals into NRT
Touchdown
Many tails as usual in NRT, also another MH bird which was the earlier flight from KUL already down in NRT
Theres nothing like spending a nice flight with MH.

Pre Flight
After getting our bags and clearing customs and immigration, its straight onto the Airport Limosine Bus and direct transfers to Haneda Airport. After around 1 hour of travelling time we arrived. Then it’s a quick bag drop off, had lunch at the food area and then the rest of the time was just spent chilling at the ANA lounge near our gate.
Check in areas at Haneda ANA Terminal
I also paid a quick visit to the viewing terrace
Long walk to the lounge near our departure gate
The lounge was simple but had a smart looking feel to it with an airy feel.
Our ride to CTS
In Flight
As you can imagine, its really cramped on this domestic B773 version, even in J, but it was bearable for the short hop to CTS.

And being in Japan, the inflight catering was really good but the presentation was even nicer.
More inflight views
Noticed that it was snowing when we approached into CTS. After disembarkation, noticed the airport was really nice and was not too big, but not too small, however, we had to wait for a really long time for the bags to come out. It was a good flight by NH and I am looking forward to flying again with them in 3 days time.
Taxiing to the gate, logo jets aplenty!

Pre Flight
After a really great 4 days in Sapporo and freezing my butt off in the process, its time to head back to Tokyo. We booked a maxi cab to take us to the airport as we had a ton of luggage due to all the winter clothing. After checking in, we walked around to check out the shops in the departure area before heading off to one of the many delightful restaurants to have our lunch. Personally, I had always wanted to fly onboard the Pokemon Jet, and today I really got my chance! I was just ecstatic when I saw her pulling up to our gate.
The rest of the time was spent being really restless in the lounge, eagerly waiting for my flight on the Pokemon Jet.
In Flight
Full load again in both J and Y. Was looking at the ANA fleet facts in their inflight magazine and noticed the B744D versions seat a total of 529 pax! Who needs the A380? But I bet NH and JL might cramp 800+ seats on their A380D if it ever eventuates to a confirmed order. I was busy snapping pics in the cabin,
but then the lead stewardess came up to me and politely told me that taking pictures and forbidden. Hrmmm strange, never ever happened to me on an Asian carrier before. Anyway, the flight itself was pretty ordinary but as usual the NH crew were fantastic.
Lunch
I have not flown on ANA international before, but after what I have experienced with them in domestic Japan, I will definitely have a go some time in the near future.

After exhausting my credit cards, its now time to head back home. As usual, we took the Airport Limosine bus from the Tokyo Hilton hotel where we stayed to Narita Airport. It was practically free of any traffic so in exactly 1.5hrs, we were already waiting for the check in counters to open. Had lunch at one of the restaurants and paid a quick visit to the viewing terrace. After clearing immigration, we took the train to the satellite gates and spent more of our money at Duty Free before going and relaxing at the Qantas Club lounge which MH uses in NRT.
Sad to say the QF lounge although fresh from a renovation, looked really cold and boring.
Same baby that took me to NRT is taking me back to KUL

Same experience late last year on a domestic NH flight (FUK-HND).
Flew MH once on NRT-KUL via BKI. Also B772, and I got upgraded to C. Old style seats though, I guess now the complete 772 fleet have the shell seats you're showing to us.
btw, I stayed in the Renaissance K.L., a great hotel with a fantastic breakfast buffet!

Eric

Yeah its strange, but on the previous sector the lead stewardess saw me happily clicking away on my camera and she smiled and didn't say anything.....hrmmmm

Yup! I used to stay there a lot, but the last couple of years I have been staying at lot at either the Westin KL or Le Meridien KL Sentral.

They are like that on the Japanese carriers...I don't know why. It's OK to take them once in flight.
Excellent TR with excellent pics. I've never flown on MH but I see their 777's all the time at NRT.

Actually MH's 777's are one of the most lightly configured amongst all the Asian carriers, meaning you get great leg rooms, even in Y. And I also must say that the 777's look good in MH colours

Hi Mark, yeap, I really want to give them a go on an international leg and also try out their B7773ER. By the way, which part of the Uk are you based at? Geez I am way overdue to pay a visit to the UK been 7 years since I last been there.
Hey Markus...thanks for reading, and stay tuned, I have already finished up writing that ACE trip and have already loaded the pics on photobucket, so its just a matter of my linking the pics to the text.
Great, isn't it? I wish you'd find those facilites more often.

I can't confirm that - I was actually surprised about the generous legroom in Y on NH's 773. Seating comfort was much better than what you get on most LCCs and American/European legacy carriers.

Congratulations for that. I also got a logojet during my last Japan visit, but JL's Tamagochi 744s weren't as nice as the Pokemon jets.

Bad to hear. Quite odd that they didn't even allow to take pictures before pushback.

Thats the great thing about most airports in Japan, they got really good and comfortable viewing terraces

You might be right on that one, maybe I am spending too much time on MH's 777's with their too generous legroom! eheheheheh
Quoting PlaneHunter (Reply 7): Quite odd that they didn't even allow to take pictures before pushback.
Maybe I am coming to realise thats it is at the discretion of the cabin crew to enforce this rule or not.

By the way, forgot to ask you, what kind of seat pitch does NH give on their domestic Y?

With all the flak MH has been receiving of late, trust you to come up with something nice to say about them to cushion the blow. Indeed they need all the good news they can have now... And what do you know? They just bagged the best cabin crew award again with Skytrax!

Yup they are really good, even ex-Perth they keep the standard to almost that of ex-KUL. But sometimes I am getting a little sick of the satays ahahah been flying MH way too much

Hi Herbert
Thanks for another interesting read and great that you are posting again
MH's in flight service, and especially their meal service, looks top notch. I am not a big fan of 2-3-2 configuration in Business, but with MH's Satay signature dish I would not mind it at all
I have now flown on OS and TG in Business on their 777's and my clear favorite is TG's "new" Business class on their 777ER with 2-2-2 configuration. Very spacious and nice looking cabin.
Japan is defiantly a country that I need to visit. I think it is fantastic that they still have superb viewing terraces at their airports, when the rest of the world closed them years ago.

Hey Stein...
Thanks for reading ..acutally you have to see TG's new J for the A380, its even better, you can see the pic of the chair in the civil aviation forum. Theres a post by Stargold on the hamburg aircraft interiors exhibition. go have a look, halfway down there are the seats selected by TG for the A380. Btw, TG just received the first of their new A333, HS-TEN.

What a fantastic set of pictures and a nice report - that ANA Haneda terminal looks amazing! You've made me want to go to Japan now! Hey how was the sushi on the NRT-KUL leg, it looks fairly decent but so did an omelette I had on MH a few years ago...I'm not going to go into that, painful memories

Thanks for reading. The sushi was actually really fantastic. Actually one thing I love about flying out of NRT is that the catering is really good, does not matter whether you are flying MH, SQ or TG, catering is always good, especially if you order the Japanese food option.
