BRU-MXP-BRU on Lufthansa Italia
First time in my life I arrived at the airport less than two hours before departure. I got to the airport by train and one of my connections was delayed. I arrived 90 minutes before departure, which is basically still nothing to worry about. Check-in went very smooth. I didn't time it but it was under a minute for sure! Lufthansa has its own "Lufthansa/Star Alliance" check-in with multiple desks available. There was nobody queuing and I was greeted by a Dutch speaking check-in agent who immediately asked me if I wanted an aisle or window seat. The choice was obvious! I obtained my boarding pass and proceeded to the arrivals hall where I went shopping in the Delhaize supermarket. I bought some croissants (I didn't have breakfast yet) and Belgian chocolate. I was going to visit a friend in Bologna, and since I could stay at her place for free, the least I could do was treat her to some Belgian beer and chocolate. I then went through immigration which was no big deal. I watched some airplanes (I might post some pictures later) then went to gate A57. While hanging around there, I found out Lufthansa's A340 - which was temporarily operating for Brussels airlines because one of it's A330 was undergoing maintenance - was standing at the end of the A/T terminal. At the end of the A pier there is another checkpoint where you have to show your ticket and passport in order to proceed to the (I think) T terminal. I greeted the officers and explained all I wanted to do was taking a picture of that beauty... but since I didn't hold a valid ticket for that area, all I got was a friendly "no". I took a few more photo's in the A terminal and went back to gate A57.
Boarding started 15 minutes prior to departure. Once I made my way to seat 22F, which is in the back of the plane, I heard an announcement: "boarding complete, close cabin door". I immediately realized this flight was not going to make any profit as most seats remained empty.
Poor loads are not uncommon on airlines that have just started operations...

We left gate A57 on time. We crossed runway 02/20 and used the outer taxiway so we would arrive on the 25R displaced threshold. I have no clue why but just before the threshold there was an American 763 waiting. We passed them and I felt like waving to the pilots but thought that would be a bit silly so I didn't... but then... they waved to us! I thought that was funny. We started our take off from the threshold. Although the pilots didn't apply full power, the take-off was quite powerful and steep. We were airborne before the end of the piano keys.
Once at 10000 feet, the "fasten seatbelts" sign was turned off and the f/a's started to prepare lunch service. Lunch (or should I say snack) was served once at cruising altitude.
I don't remember anymore what was in the package but it did taste good!
There were multiple drinks rounds. During "lunch" you could choose drinks ranging from soft drinks to sparkling wine. (2 rounds) Afterwards there was coffee or tea (2 rounds). Not bad for flying economy!
Flying over the alps. I instantly felt like skiing!
During our decent into MXP, I saw this airport. At first I thought it was Lugano airport. But I just found out it's not. I researched it a bit and found out this little airfield is situated near Unterbach, Switzerland.
Nothing special to mention. Got off the airplane, got my luggage in no time and hopped on the airport express bus which brought me to Milano Centrale where I took the Eurostar to Bologna.
Check-in & boarding
Check-in went very smooth. Again, there was a Lufthansa/Star Alliance dedicated check-in zone which is very convenient. I asked for a window seat in the back of the plane. Boarding took place 10 minutes before departure and was completed in no time. Everything went the same way as in Brussels.

Cabin crew consisted of 2 German speakers and one Italian speaker in Y. Don't know if there was an additional F/A for Business class. I'm not sure about the nationality of the crew in the flight deck but on each occasion, at least one of them was speaking with a German accent.
A snack was offered during the flight: a sandwich with a chocolate bar. I had two cans of diet coke but regular and sparkling wine were also available on this flight, free of charge!
Cabin. Notice the rack with the free LH Italia postcards? Awesome!
Seat pitch (I guess this is the airbus standard 32" configuration)

During our decent into BRU we passed LGG airport. Airplane taking off on runway 23L.
Nothing special to mention. It took me 15 minutes from the gate to the airport train station and yes, that included picking up my bag.
I enjoyed these flights very much! Everything was organized very well and I had nothing to complain about. I think Lufthansa Italia is doing a good job! But... just try them yourself

That's generous - but the load made it easy for them.

good to read something about LH Italia surrounded with nice pictures.
Several planes from Germanwings and LH mainline joined the livery into that new one.
Interesting to read about your cockpit crew, it seems they send some germans down to Italy.

The report is short, but gives a good insight in the LH Italia product, and I think they will grow into a good and decent airline. The fact that the loadfactor was quite low, is nothing to worry about. They just started their ops, and it takes time to get known and respected by the potential passengers.

Nothing special? I'd say getting in 15 minutes from the gate to the train station, including picking up your bag is pretty spectial! At AMS it takes me that long just to get to the baggage caroussel...
