Again this trip was planned to satisfy the flying bug.
Also I wanted to fly on a Fokker 50 and a friend of mine is a pilot for Alliance Airlines. He has been telling me to come for a ride for a while. So I will see what a Fokker 50 is like. However he was not flying this flight.

Check in and security were easy and painless. Although I used web check in the day before, I thought I still had to go to a check in desk, but after lining up for 10 minutes I was told all I had to do was go straight to the gate.
Got a drink and then sat down at the assigned gate and awaited the flight.

Takeoff was smooth and aircraft noise was not as loud as I was expecting.
A snack consisting of a cake, cheese and crackers and a drink of water was served. Tea and coffee was also available.
Flight would have been 90%+ full.

There was little turbulence until we approached Olympic Dam where it was a bit rough in places.
Landing itself was good.

The plane on the tarmac at Olympic Dam

The terminal is basically a shed that has been fitted out with a proper floor seats, check in facilities etc and the luggage is loaded onto a trolley and taken around to the front of the terminal where everyone gets their own luggage off the trolley.
While checking in for the return flight one of the passengers who was checking in for the return flight saw me get off the plane and said
Guy: Didn’t you just get off?.
Me: Yes Going for a ride here and back as I enjoy flying on different aircraft.
Guy: Bit expensive isn’t it just here and back?
Me: Flight cost me about A$200 and I bet you could spend that at the pub.
Guy: Fair enough.

Boarding was called and everyone lined up at the fence and once the gate was opened as everyone passed through, their names were checked off the list.
I took the same seat as I had on the way up.
The takeoff was good, but was turbulent in the air, as we got higher it smoothed out.
Another snack was served this time a ham and cheese roll, cheese and crackers and water. Tea and coffee was again offered.
The cheese and ham roll was a bit on the soggy side, but was not too bad.

Coming back this flight was about 30% full so after take off people spread out, but had to return to their assigned seats for landing.
Talking to one of the F/As during the flight, this was usually a quiet flight where as the first flight Monday Morning and Last flight on Friday were usually jam packed.

Landing back in Adelaide was good. We landed on the cross runway as every other time I have flown from Adelaide we have always taken off and landed on the main runway. Had a quick look at the flight deck on the way out.
As I mentioned in REX trip report a while ago, passengers in Adelaide do a lot of walking through jail like tunnels to and from the tarmac.

Conclusion
Alliance Airlines offer a good service on this route. It is mainly for flying miners between Adelaide and the Olympic Dam mine, but people from the nearby town of Roxby Downs make use of the flights too.
The fokker 50 is a good aircraft to fly in, but I found the windows were a little low so I had to twist my neck a bit to see out and sat in a window seat means the curve of the wall means you can’t put your left foot flat on the floor.

A good and interesting report, thanks for sharing. That's not a route or airline that comes up often here on A.net!

Nice answer. I'll have to remember that one next time I try to justify these things to someone not into aviation.

Looks like you enjoyed the flights. The Fokker is a fun aircraft as I recall, though I only flew it once in 2003 (HAJ-AMS) on KLM Cityhopper.
