Check in was nice and simple, as well as immigration and security. We were advised by the check in agent, that there's been a further half hour delay to the flight. We headed upstrairs to the Qantas Club. It was pretty empty.

After some breakfast, we headed to the departure gate C23, and bought some duty free on the way. The A380 was already there, being stocked up by catering trucks. It was Qantas' second A380 VH-QOB. We saw it in Sydney the day of our departure. There was more security checks at the gate entrance.

We were soon welcomed aboard personally by the flight attendant, who offered the choice of Champagne, orange juice, or water prior to takeoff. The personal welcome is quite nice, with the flight attendant briefing each passenger about the flight indivudually. The difference between the personal welcome in Premium Economy on QF, and Business Class in BA can be seen, where in BA, the flight attendants had our names memorized, and used them whenever they addressed us, whereas in QF Y , every time they came past, they had a piece of paper with names and seat numbers, and had to look it up every time.

We were soon underway, and taxiied south past terminal 3 and the hotel where we stayed, to runway 02L.

I must say this bird is very quiet, and the acceleration of the takeoff run is not as pronounced as in any other plane I've been on. You don't feel the plane pushing you into the seat when it accelerates. It took a while to get to speed, and used up a fair bit of the runway before rotating. Very quiet, but powerful beast.

The Premium Economy Cabin sure is nicer than standard economy, but I don't think I could justify spending double the cost of a normal ticket or even more, had I had to pay cash for the seats. Sure, you get some extra room between you and the seat in front of you, and some extra leg room, as well as a more personalized service, but I personally don't think its worth it the extra money. This was a reward flight, and these were the only available seats. I would have preferred to try Qantas Business Class, and see how it compares to BA, but it will have to wait until another trip  Smile

My camera battery died soon afterwards. Needless to say, the rest of the flight was quite enjoyable. We arrived at gate 9, via runway 34L. Deplaning didn't commence for about 30 minutes, since quarantine officers had to attend to a passenger that fell ill during the flight.
Baggage claim, customs and immigration were pretty painless and we were soon heading home.

That's it. It sure did turn out long. I hope you enjoyed reading as much as we enjoyed the holiday.

I apologize about the pics. I initially put them on my hotmail profile, but the bandwitdh was too narrow, and the majority did not show. I've since uploaded them to Picassa, and it seems better, but still not 100%. There are too many of them to upload to airliners.net.
If the pictures don't show up, I suggest refreshing the page once or twice, and they should appear. Are all pics in the fourth report not working or just some?

Quoting LX64A332 (Reply 5):

I can see why. For some reason after I previewed and uploaded them, some of the image links were automatically changed in picassa. You can see that with all of the images, the last folder between the actual jpg file name is s912, and that's what it was when I uploaded them. I have just checked picassa again, and they are all s720. Has anyone else experienced this ? They also seem to be of less resolution. I am trying to resolve this with the moderator of the forum, to avoid deleting the post and having to repost it again. It may come to that, but its not a big deal.

We boarded through the upstairs jetway, and proceeded all the way through the loooong business class cabin, to the Premium Economy cabin.

There was a male flight attendant nearby when I took these shots, and he seemed pretty agitated that I took the photos. He said I wasn't allowed to take photos due to security issues. What security issues?

My camera battery died soon afterwards. Needless to say, the rest of the flight was quite enjoyable. We arrived at gate 9, via runway 34L. Deplaning didn't commence for about 30 minutes, since quarantine officers had to attend to a passenger that fell ill during the flight.
Baggage claim, customs and immigration were pretty painless and we were soon heading home.

That's it. It sure did turn out long. I hope you enjoyed reading as much as we enjoyed the holiday.

Great you got the pics working! Thanks for sharing - pics were very enjoyable. Sounds like your trip was very pleasant. The Y+ cabin looks really nice and spacious however I doubt I'd fly on it.

Thanks again!

And Third it. I'm actually now in the mood for going to Thailand. A fortnight on a beach would do me nicely  Silly

I'm now dying to get on an A380 sometime soon, although I'm nearly finished school and when I have a job, i think I may do something like GLA-DXB-SYD-SIN-LHR to get on all 3 carrier's A380s and a 77W  Smile

Thanks for taking the time to do this series of reports, I really enjoyed reading

Good stuff, thanks for fixing the pictures up!

I'm booked in Premium Economy LHR-SYD-LHR on QF later this month, and it's going to be well worth it for such a long flight (and it was only $3,000 return!).

Nice report, makes me want to go back to Asia!!

I do quite enjoy a spot of flying - more so when it's not in Economy!

Theres a difference in price, but thats pretty good, I think, for premium economy... I find on BA F sometimes I dont even get called by name.

I hope to fly the A380 soon!- Lucky!  Smile
