Wonderful photos. So surprised that TG's J class pax are still having to put up with those old seats with the inferior legroom even on a fairly long run like NRT-BKK.

Wow those photos are fantastic! Nice Report. Those TG 744's looked really outdated.

Too bad about the old config. 747. I'm not even sure how many are left to update, can't be that many. It seems that the old configs run the BKK-NRT route quite often.

Nice pics..NRT ones bring back lots of good memories from living in Japan for 4 years. I also liked your SFO pics. I've flown UA out of SFO to SEL and to HKG, but that was some time ago before the new international terminal even began to be built. SFO and LAX are both great for trans Pacific heavies.
I was able to go inside the new international terminal at SFO about a month before 11 September. It was really nice, so I'm glad I got to see it.

Have you kissed a 777 today?

Great report Mel, as always  Smile

One thing that got me thinking was the ANA BusinessJet 737. I've never before noticed the "BJ" logo ahead of the titles on the side of the A/C. Thought it was kinda funny...  silly

Anywho, good report.

Cheers

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

EC001 -- yeah, the EMB-190s are very comfortable. Tonnes of space, legroom, nice large tray tables, great IFE, 2x2 seating all add up to a very pleasant experience. Aeroflot's livery on the A330 is awesome. The A330 is already one of the nicest-looking planes in the sky, then add that livery, and bang -- perfect combo.

LondonCity -- I was really disappointed to see the outdated interior of the Upper Deck when I boarded. The service was really good, and the seats had adequate recline. Always nice to rest your feet on the Upper Deck side storage compartments too. I didn't even bother with the IFE other than watching the moving map channel. The laptop provides more than enough enjoyment as a replacement to inadequate IFE.

Triple7Man -- San Francisco was crazy busy on the United-side of the airport. Planes waiting for gates, widebodies as far as the eye could see. It was nice to see Singapore and All Nippon 77Ws too.

BA319-131 -- thanks for the comments on the pics. The camera is a Canon 20D, about 5 years old now, with a 100-400L lens, and 17-40L lens. The camera hasn't failed me once. Would be nice to upgrade to something newer, but why bother when the 'old' camera still functions fine.

Part 2 (the trip back) will be posted here in a few hours.

Matt

Hi MEL,

FANTASTIC photos!!! Absolutely brilliant.
I might just have to steal your camera  Wink

The AC EMB 190s certainly look very good, both inside and out. Very sleek a/c.
I have to go and try one out someday, hopefully one of DJs.

The monorail car at SFO is so cool!

Look forward to part 2.

Regards,
Pete

Yo Mel,
Great TR-I love your photography. Star Alliance does indeed dominate at all those airports you visited. Well done and thanks for sharing.
PS-I like the format of the TR

I commented already about this on another thread, but I'm still OMG over it. I studied photography in school (mostly film though...fine arts...I reject digital for my artwork). I honestly don't think I've ever seen 20D pictures like this. I'm quite sure it is the L series lenses that are responsible for producing such amazing pictures. I've long been of the opinion that Canon lenses (L series especially) RAW and postprocess? are better than anything from Nikon's line. Even though Nikon has the storied history and brand name like no other. I assume you shoot in RAW and postprocess? I'd kill to know what you do to get that 'pop'. PM?

I am shooting in JPEG rather than RAW. If I start shooting in RAW, I will need an external hard drive in the Terrebyte range, cause I've taken probably 100,000 photos with the Canon 20D already.
