This is Maya Bay where a part of the movie "The Beach" was filmed. After much planning which started from Jan 2008 btw the trip was in July 2008 , Me , my mom and dad , decided to go to Thailand and in particular the Phuket , for them it would be the third time going to Thailand and the second time going to Phuket. But for me , it would be a lot of first time's so lets review them:
1)First time visiting the land of smiles and Phuket
2)First time to fly on Thai Airways
3)First time to fly J on EK77W
4)First time flying on a A300-600
5)First time to depart from runway 12R in DXB.
Sawasdee krap and welcome to my 3rd Trip Report,
The moment I had stepped foot off EK 372 at 19:45 in BKK , I was amazed with everything other than the long lines for passport control and the dull ceilings. The air which was circulating through my lungs was great , although I could feel high levels of pollution , but what the heck I am in Bangkok. After a 40 minutes drive , and without being delayed by the ever so famous Bangkok traffic , we were checking-in in the lobby of Courtyard By Marriott , which I highly recommend , for great location, rooms and on top of that great staff.
Room on 7th floor.
Our in-room phone rang at exactly 7:35 ,picking up the phone still feeling a bit disoriented , maybe from the freezing cold , yes my mom turned the Air conditioning at 16C before we slept. Anyway the sweet voice on the phone made way through my short lived disorientation, and after a hearty breakfast and check-out, we were on our way with a very friendly driver to DMK. We didn't trust traffic so we left the hotel a full three hours before the flight. Getting back to the driver this guy , wasn't just friendly but he was very chatty and funny, what I liked most in him was his pride for his country, through his limited English vocabulary he expressed how happy he was to see his country an inspiring tourist destination and he also expressed his extreme happiness when he knew this was the third time for my parents to visit the land of smiles.
By 10:50 we were outside DMK domestic terminal entrance ,we bid farewell to our lovely driver and passed security into the check-in area , where we checked-in in the diplomatic counter where , as the agent saw we had priority tag from emirates and although we were flying Y on TG , she replaced our EK priority tags with TG ones!
After check-in it was the usual mother to shop in the Duty Free , which according to her had great bargains , my dad to Burger King for a Coffee followed by a long stay in the smoking room and me trying to occupy my self with trying to spot and look around the terminal.
Let me now leave you with pictures until boarding :
My A/C at gate 64.
Obligatory parents picture
The best thing I may say in DMK is the water cooler's with cone cups , they are really nice. But seriously terminal looked in very good shape , it was one of the few airports I flew from in my life that I thought had a soul, along SHJ, AUH and ORY. By 12:10 a general boarding announcement was made for everyone to board and this is where I parted my parents who have patience and I was proudly the first one to board, at the 2L Cristie met me with the swasdee kah and believe it or not her smile was so dazzling by mistake I also told her swasdee kah on which she laughed , as she explained to me kah is when a girl is speaking and krap is when it is spoken out by a guy, thanking her for the explanation and picking up an English newspaper , I proceeded to 46A , the third last seat in the 1st economy cabin , past many other dazzling smiles.
The doors were closed by 12:30 , with a 100% full load Y cabin and J cabin with 1 open seat. After a flow of announcements and a very nice safety video and an F/A confirming our order for a Muslim meal. We took off at 12:45 ,and without too sharp turns we were on our way to phuket!
Pictures till prior to decent:
Abandoned DMK international terminal
Around 10 minutes to 2pm our MOML was served which was exactly identical to the other (Normal meals) but anyway we got served first. A snack box was given which contained a mushroom and chicken puff was great, and the sponge cake was decent too. During the meal service a drink service which included Juices, coke , sprite and water, was made along with two tea and coffee rounds.
I also had a 10 minute chat with Boat (yes his name tag said boat). I asked him about how he liked his job on Thai and if he likes flying Domestic or international, which according to him domestic flights are better. He was also interested to hear that I live in Dubai and he was really hoping to visit the city soon, after a few minutes we were descending and I was back in my seat to take more photo's.
Pictures till landing.
Moi a year ago.
After landing we docked at gate 10 , where there was a mad rush and when we reached the belt , my wildest dream came true me and my parents (many bags) were the first to come on the belt thanks check-in agent!. Anyway after getting hold of the Hilton representative who took us to our awaiting car , I saw one of the passengers of EK372 waiting at the airport coincidence!
TG has proved to be a quality carrier , and I really loved DMK and the A300 and Phuket . Before leaving you with the some pictures of Phuket , I would like to ask you to stay in tune for my return TR which will cover more pictures of HKT ,BKK and the return flight and finally my general analysis of TG.

Nice images of Phuket. Glad you had a fantastic trip and coming from where you are, I would be excited too coming to this part of the world. I guess if I were your age and heading to Dubai, I too would be jumping up and down with anticipation to the point of peeing in my pants. Hahahaha....
And thank you for sharing the images of DMK. It was one of my favourite airports in the world for the sheer variety of traffic and the absolutely terrific vantage spotting points in the terminal building. Suvarnabhumi sucks big time in that aspect.
Welcome to my starry one world alliance, a team in the sky!

DMK was really a nice experience for me as here in the middle east , we have nothing even close to it. I guess DXB is nice but there is no soul , no coziness, and that is fair to say for Suvarnabhumi too , its more modern , but its depressing. DMK was also the only reason I flew on TG , as I really wante to try Bangkok airways but no luck.

Quoting OA260 (Reply 10): Hey excellent report and great pics. Have not seen that many interior pics of TG AB6 before so was great to see.
Thank you for your kind words OA260. I was surprised to know through the crew that they have 4 completely different interiors for the AB6 and currently all of them are getting fitted with the new colourful one's. As my dad was into photography I also found out that the aircraft that I had flew on return HS-TAA he had flew it from HKG-BKK , apparently knowing the registration of the aircraft before was something very weird.
Quoting OA260 (Reply 10): Very good report and you have a flair for TR's judging by your recent reports.
Thanks again, keep them coming
Thank's again for the very kind words and yes hopefuly I will be posting a TR on DXB-DOH-DXB in Sept. . Now OA260 you have given me an excuse to fly more.
