The Story
On Thursday, 23 July 2009, the President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially opened the new "Garuda Indonesia Management Building" located in an area known as the "Garuda Indonesia City Center", at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Jakarta
The occasion was also marked by the official launching of the new Garuda Indonesia "Corporate Identity Brand Refresh" and two brand new aircraft, the Airbus A330-200 and Boeing B-737-800NG (Next Generation) fitted up with sophisticated audio & video entertainment system, and sporting a modernized interior and exterior that reflect the "corporate identity brand refresh" image.
The new concept in service includes brand new aircraft equipped with modernized interior and exterior, state-of-the-art entertainment and the uniquely "Garuda Indonesia Experience (Indonesian Hospitality)"
Co-incide the launch of new Corporate image and new service concept, the "Garuda Indonesia Experience", Garuda also launched a 3 times weekly Jakarta to Sydney direct nonstop service by their brand new A330-200 aircraft on 1 August.
I was fortunate to be able to travel on this brand new aircraft and service, as a guest of Garuda Indonesia. Please click on the below image to access the trip report.

Awesome report, Sam! It's hard to believe after reading this TR that GA was recently banned from operating in the EU. Their cabins look great and it just looks like a great experience. Their cabins look a lot like Hainan's though. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Sam, congratulations for this new GA A332 report. The photos are fantastic, as always with you of course. Really happy to see Garuda making a comeback too. The J class seats are similar to those on SA and the older ones on 9W: did you find them a tad firm as seats?

The plane was indeed one of two or three that supposed to be delivered to Hainan but the airline canceled the order. Garuda just changed the seat covers and modify the IFE a little bit. Did you notice that the IFE's menu is English, French, and Chinese but not Bahasa Indonesia?

Hi Sam,
thanks for sharing your trip experience. Looks like GA is heading in to the right direction. Would seriously consider flying them for next trip to Europe once they resume their flights to FRA. Weren't they recently removed from the EU ban list ?

Yes, the EU has just lifted the ban for four Indonesian airlines including Garuda. The first European destination for GA after the ban will almost certainly be AMS.

Great Report. I like their new livery and I appreciate that they kept the logo. Of course everyones opinion may be different, but I think that they were able to introduce a modern scheme with keeping elements that Garuda is recognized for (the bird logo).
I just read an article in a tourism industry magazine where they're mentioning huge expension plans, especially back to Europe, first AMS and then other cities followed (FRA as well). Hope this will work out fine.

Great report with excellent pictures!
GA's new J Class product looks very competitive. The Y Class seats and PTVs are the same which HU has installed on the A332. However, I don't like the brown seat color on GA.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write and upload your report Sam. I thought it was excellent!
Very little is known of GA in this part of the world, so for me this was a more interesting report. I surely hope GA can thrive. Indonesia's economy is, I understand, doing quite well, so that should be able to fuel GA's expansion. Anybody knows if it is true that there are ongoing discussions between SkyTeam and GA in connection with an application for membership?

Correct GA seems make most if not all their profit from Domestic Service.
Hoping GA will continue to build Jakarta as a hub which I believe it will add appeal to traveller to/from Australia to connect onwards.
Quoting BA319-131 (Reply 8): Good to see GA revise the image & improve the product, long overdue!
I can honestly say from all my encounters with GA crew/agent/management, they are very professional and service is one of the best I've encountered. Thumbs up to Garuda.

Quoting The777Man (Reply 6): Really a shame they changed the tail colors of their aircraft.....The old was pretty nice but the new colors are just awful.......
AGREED! The old tail colours were one of my favourite. A shame they just didn't just modify it slightly but keep with the original theme....a la Alitalia or Air France.

Hi Sam,
thanks for the great insight on GA. This will for sure be my choice from AMS to Indonesia, once they are operating on the route (hopefully 2010, I heard).
Strange that you didn't get a menu card though, and had to choose your dish from the plate with all 3 options. Maybe something which can be improved later on.
Regards,
Eric

This could make GA a very appealing candidate for SkyTeam, which has limited presence in Oceania.

Fantastic report!! My compliments!
Looks like GA have a good base product there just needs a few tweeks to add that bit of style new crockery and cutlery, better presentation of meals, but looks like progress is being made and I look forward to their future expansion plans!
Any ideas when the new uniform is due to arrive looks like their crew have superb grooming but dreadfully need a new uniform fast!! (was it ever considered stylish that lime green colour? What does the lime green suits signfy is it just a different uniform option to the black or a signal of rank?)
