Hello again! The project I am part of in my job that sent me around the world in January, demanded another round the world tour, so here I am. This time the routing is a little more complicated with 7 cities, instead of 4.

Once again, I will be using only Oneworld airlines but this time I made sure I would fly a couple new airplanes for my list… The other different thing on this trip is that this time I am going the opposite direction; after suffering so much with the jetlag I had the fantasy that going west is the way to go… We’ll see.

The routing is as follows:

First leg:
ZRHMAD. Thursday, August 13th. Iberia 3471. A319.

Second leg:
MADCCS: Sunday, August 16th. Iberia 6701. A340-600

Third leg:
CCSLIM: Tuesday, August 18th, LAN 2565. B767-300
LIMSCL: Wednesday, August 19th, LAN 601. B767-300
SCLGRU: Wednesday, August 19th, LAN 750. B767-300

I know what you might be thinking, why go trough SCL when there is a direct flight from LIM to GRU? Well, the answer is simple, that flight, which leaves Lima to Sao Paulo around 1AM has no business class!!!!!! So we thought it’d be better to go through SCL and get business seats all the way….

Fourth leg:
GRUEZE: Sunday, August 23rd, BA 247. B747-400

Fifth leg:
EZESYD: Wednesday, August 26th, QF 18. B747-400

Sixth leg:
SYDMEL: Sunday, August 30th, QF 419. B767-300

Seventh leg:
MELHKG: Tuesday, September 1st, CX104. A330 (a first for me)

Eighth leg:
HKGSIN: Thursday, September 3rd, CX735. B777-300 (another first for me)

Ninth leg:
SINKUL: Saturday, September 5th, AK 720. A320
KULSIN: Saturday, September 5th, AK 717. A320

This is non-work related; just a one-day trip into Kuala Lumpur as I wanted to go see the Petrona Towers….

Tenth leg:
SINLHR: Sunday, September 6th, QF 31. A380!!!!!!!! (another first, of course)
LHRZRH: Monday, September 7th, BA 712. A320.

So all in all, a very complete trip that will allow me to compare the different business classes of Oneworld airlines, and also experience a new airline (Air Asia).

I’ll try to be as descriptive as possible and not bore you out throughout the legs.

First leg:
ZRHMAD. Thursday, August 13th. Iberia 3471. A319.
SDT: 19:10
ADT: 19:10
SAT: 21:20
AAT: 21:15
Seat 2A

I forgot to take pictures altogether on this leg, so you’ll have to bear with my descriptions. I took the train from the office (I work right next to Enge, for those familiar with Zurich) and arrived to the airport well before the departure time, around 5PM. I went to the check in desk and a very nice agent provided me with the boarding pass and directed me to the lounge.

Now Iberia doesn’t have a lounge in Zurich; they use the Admirals Club lounge. The lounge has less personality than an a white piece of paper, very plain ….I had a couple cokes but as the views were far from spectacular I decided to head for the gates. I had one of those gates at Zurich where you take the bus to the airplane.

Boarding was really chaotic…. Some people don’t believe in lines you see… We made it to the plane, a big surprise awaited me. I FINALLY got an Iberia crew that was very nice and seemed to be happy to be there. I’ll admit, I don’t really remember what they gave us for dinner, though. All I can tell you is that there wasn’t a choice, but it wasn’t bad at all. It was chicken something…

Thunderstorms where hammering Madrid, but unfortunately we didn’t get to see any action. I don’t know about you guys, but I like some turbulence every once in a while. We landed when it was already dark out on runway 18L, and this was to be the most fun part of this leg. Our bags didn’t come out for almost an hour… Now, this was the very beginning of my business trip, so I got a little worried about my bag, suits, etc. I walked to Iberia’s customer service desk and this was more or less the exchange with the very “friendly” agent:

- Good evening, I was on the flight from Zurich that landed about an hour ago.
- So?
- Well, the bags haven’t come out yet
- And?
- Well… I would like to go home…
- Well… bags usually take about an hour to get out, but that’s on average so, it could be an hour, or an hour an a half… sometimes more… so why worry?

Ah! The Madrid’s T4 is fairly new… should this be happening? An hour on average? Was the guy just being a jerk? Finally my bag came out and off I went…

Knowing you've lived somewhere in S. America, I'm sure you can communicate effectively with them in Spanish. Picture it if it was some foreigners, like me, I would be shock getting such answers from them ..

btw, me, again, reading your trip report.... I have been working a lot and haven't gotten a chance to catch up on the past round the world trip you did... So I just did but unfortunately, the VII , VIII & IX reports' pictures didn't show up.... any chance you can fix it? or better yet, if you have another website for me to see, it would be great....

I truly enjoy your reports! Thanks again...
