Welcome back....

If you have not read part 1 yet it is right here,
Trip To Australia United-Qantas Part 1 (Pics) (by Global97 Sep 7 2009 in Trip Reports)

Ok so finally I had my booking for June 9th 2009. My flight left for SYD at 10:15 PM.

I had an amazing view of the runway from or hotel and I was able to get some great shots that you might like to see.

I took many photo's but a lot of the other were blurry and these were the best.

So

I left for the airport from or Radisson Hotel around 6:30, my dads and I plan was to check in and pass security then go grab some dinner.

There was no one at the United International check in for business. I was the only person in line. So check in took like 2 minutes, security was about the same so I had some time to kill. We first went to my gate to see if my plane was there which it wasn't. There were some interesting planes is the terminal though.

So when we got to the gate the plane wasn't there so we started walking back.
We stopped at Baja Fresh to get some dinner. We had a great view of the United Domestic
Terminal. There were only very small aircraft sitting at the gates and there were not that many planes in the terminal.

So then we went to the United Red Carpet Club.

The Bar, there were like 20 people here raging about a basketball game.

Entry Desk

So now I was heading to my flight it was around 9:00 PM and I was able to watch my plane pull up to the gate as a walked there.

LAX-SYD

So I said good bye to my dad and was handed over to United. I just waited at the desk while the lady working there waited till boarding to bring me on board.
It was about a 15 minute wait, so not that bad. It was so nice on the upper deck of the 747. I was in one of there newer aircraft and business was a fully flat skybed.

Here is a story for you.....
So when I was waiting at the desk to board I was talking to the lady and I was telling her how I love flying and I want to be a pilot when I grow up. So once I was sitting in my seat getting all comfy, the pilots pass me "You must be Josh, come on up to the flight deck" so I went up there with the pilots and we had a long chat. I kept saying well I better get back to my seat because I didn't want to get in the way but they always said "Oh, it's fine you can stay here." So that was rely a highlight of that flight
Big version: Width: 1152 Height: 864 File size: 226kb

The pilots took this picture of me.

So we had a quick taxi to the runway and were in the air about 15 minutes after I left the pilots. The FA were very nice and always helped me.

They handed out Menu's for Dinner before we took off and dinner sounded so good. So I was just waiting playing with my seat and the next thing I know its all dark and I am covered in a blanket in the flat skybed. I got up and walked to the FA I asked "did I miss dinner?" she said "Oh yeah, we have been flying for about 7 hours now." I was so anoyed

So I just played on my computer and uploaded some photos. Here are some cabin shots.

Sorry those photos were not taken from my camera.

I did get a shot of breakfast which was very good.
Big version: Width: 1152 Height: 864 File size: 252kb

It was still dark when the FA's served.

So we landed safely and me and the other UM (I didn't know there was another UM until we got off the plane.

We quickly got thought customs and security and were taken to the gate to wait for then next flight.

The flight to MEL quick and they wanted the other UM and I to be together so she was in business class with me.

Otherwise I got to MEL safe.

I hoped you liked part 2. I will be back with part 3 where I get to fly the Qantas A380.

Till then -Global

That is an MD-80 actually. You wrote a great report. I wish I would have been able to be in the cockpit. Did you have a good time in Sydney?

Well I was only in the airport? Is that you were wondering?

Did you fall asleep or something? If the FA's response to whether you missed dinner was simply "oh yeah", then it wasn't good enough on the FA's part. They should've offered you something to eat when it became clear that you had missed the meal.

Glad to see that you got to sit in the captain's chair! I wish I was that lucky.

The FA's did say "Oh yeah, you missed dinner." but then they offered me this rely nice warm beef sandwich and tons of chips so I was full. It was nice also.

Thanks for the trip report, and the photos were great as well. I especially liked the UA 744 in Star Alliance colors. I think its really great the pilots were so accommodating to you and your enthusiasm for flying! That must have been a real highlight!! I'm so jealous! And being to fly in the Upper Deck of a 744! Again, I'm jealous (hee). Can't wait for your flight on the A380! Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us.

Wow! I am so jealous, you have no idea. I've been dying to go to Australia, but alas it hasn't happened yet. And I also want to note that this is an incredibly well written report for someone your age. It was entertaining, with a strong voice and nearly perfect grammer and spelling (which I point out because I know so many people in their 20s and 30s who can't manage that!). Lots of fun was had reading this report, thank you for sharing!

Gahhh, I so want to visit Australia!!  Sad

I'm glad this flight worked out for you. You got a flatbed seat, an invitation to the cockpit, and to top it all off, a ride on an A380 on the way back. It doesn't get any better. I can't wait for part three!
