"In Memoriam" SkyEurope Airlines AMS-VIE-AMS
I was browsing my computer and found a folder full of photo's from my trip to VIE last year, that's why I decided to make my first trip report on Airliners.net, also as a kind of tribute to SkyEurope. I had the chance to fly twice with them, and after all the troubles they were in I'm glad that I had that chance. Also, I did a lot of work for them as a handling staff agent for NE at AMS which was very nice, except the last weeks due to huge delays every evening / night.
SkyEurope had (as always) a good offer: AMS-VIE-AMS for only €39,- including all taxes and charges, even creditcard charge was included! I booked approximately two months in advance.
We (my girlfriend & I) took the train at 6am from my hometown in the direction of Schiphol airport. At 07.10am we arrived there, and we directly went to the passport control because we did the check-in online. Seats were blocked in advance. We bought a cup of coffee and went to our gate, because a colleague who handled our flight was already there. I can't remember my seatnumber anymore and the loadfactor neither, I'm sorry for that!
Date: Tuesday June 10th 2008 Flight: SkyEurope Airlines NE3613 From: Amsterdam / AMS To: Vienna / VIE Duration 1h55m STD: 08:55 STA: 10.50 Aircraft: Boeing 737-76N OM-NGL
The aircraft arrived on time at the gate M7, that's the lowcost area at AMS. There was someone on board that needed medical assistance, was not sure what happened.
Disembarking went very fast and it was time for us to get on the plane.
Once everyone was onboard, we had to wait for a slot because of the huge amount of traffic taking off at that time. That took about 12 minutes before we got pushback clearance.
We taxied to runway 36C (Zwanenburgbaan) which was in use for departures for east and southbound departures in combination with runway 36L (Polderbaan) for north and westbound departures.
There was no traffic in front of us, so a rolling take-off was made! The routing was via Arnhem, Essen, Frankfurt and Plzen to Vienna.
Over Amsterdam:
We climbed to FL390 (39.000ft). Enroute the weather was good, most of the time clear views and now and then a tiny cloud.
The very friendly cabin crew started the onboard service (BOB) very soon. A good selection of drinks, snacks and sandwiches were available at good prices! I bought a can of coke (33cl) for just 2 euro's, not too bad I think!
Nice seats!
During the flight I was able to sit on the other side of the cabin as well to make some pictures.
The seatpitch was rather good with my 1.90 meter tall body!
Around 10.15am we start descending into VIE. The weather in VIE was pretty good as the captain said.
Donau river:
Getting closer to Schwechat airport:
There it is: the Schwechat ATC tower:
In Vienna runway 16 was open for landings and take-offs as well.
We taxied to a remote stand where we were picked up by a bus.
Close-up of OM-NGL:
Just in front of the arrivals hall you will find the ATC tower:
After we had arrived at the airport, we decided to visit the city centre of Vienna. The weather was excellent, around 22 degrees celsius. Perfect for a day in the city. On the lower floor of the airport you find the train to 'Wien Mitte', well known as the city centre of Vienna. By the way, that's not the 'U-bahn' but the 'S-bahn'.
Time to relax, and enjoy a cold Austrian beer "Ottakringer":
According the signs, Budapest is not that far away.
After several hours we went back to the airport to eat something and do some spotting.
Date: Tuesday June 10th 2008 Flight: SkyEurope Airlines NE3616 From: Vienna / Vie To: Amsterdam / AMS Duration 1h55m STD: 17:55 STA: 19.50 Aircraft: Boeing 737-76N OM-NGQ
On the way back it was my girlfriend's turn to sit next to the window, so no pictures at all from the way back. Sorry!
Hope you liked my first trip report. Feel free to comment
Absolutely. I hope to read more soon. Btw - good to see you almost exclusively posted clear and descriptive pictures, please continue to do so. Unfortunately, too many reports here are full of blurry, non-descriptive and unadjusted pictures which turn me off immediately.

Thanks! I did that on purpose, I just deleted the blurry ones and only used the good ones, and this is the result!

Beautiful photos, especially of Vienna. I love reports like this, as they make me want to travel to places I have dreamed of visiting. I love your inspiring photos. And that ATC tower is a work of art in itself. And it is interesting to see the interior of a 737 with such unique colors! Thanks for taking the time to post!

Great report with great pictures. VIE is def. a city on my 'to visit' list. I sometimes am envious of all the people living in Europe as they can just hop onto an LCC and visit these beautiful cities as a weekend trip. For me, it has to be at least a week
thanks a bunch for writing this report & sharing it with us...
Cheers

Hi Hans,
welcome here in the TR section. Congratulations with your first report! I think it's a good start
Didn't believe in this airline for a long time, hence I didn't book with them. For some reason they didn't belong in our skies, and it's good to see them grounded now. Although, it's not nice at all for all staffs that lost their jobs, and not good for us, since a bunch of low fares are gone.
Nevertheless I think you got good flights. Also the price for your coke was indeed reasonable, since other operators usually charge more for it.
Hope to read more reports in the future!
Regards,
Eric

Hi Hans,
A nice little report - I agree with everything PH said above about the great quality pictures. I liked the fact that there were a number of OS birds in the pictures that I've logged.
Too bad about what happened with NE - I actually booked my first flight on them with the very same day they went bankrupt - talking about bad timing!
I think I need to get back to Vienna some time in the near future, those city pictures bring back a lot of memories from past trips there.
Quoting HansHubers (Thread starter): and we directly went to the passport control because we did the check-in online.
I think you mean the security control - considering both countries are in Schengen.

Great idea, thanks for this very interesting report with lots of high quality pictures - I really enjoyed reading.
It is sad that SkyEurope had to go. I still remember them serving my home airport STR with Embraer 120-props from BTS at their start-up years ago. Those were the days...

Hello, Hans,
good to follow your SkyEurope story.
Nice pix from Vienna as well.
With also some flights on NE covered in my log a sad sign that they´re going out of business.
