Last Mileage Run This Year With LH:DUS>TXL>FRA>DUS

Last Thursday me and a friend (Sabena332 is his username on this forum) decided to fly on the following Saturday to Berlin to collect some miles on our Lufthansa Miles & More account. We called up LH`s call center and booked the earliest flight from Düsseldorf to Berlin-Tegel. LH don`t offer late nonstop flights from Berlin-Tegel to Düsseldorf on saturdays, so we had to take the back flight via Frankfurt.

LH1083 DUS-TXL B737-300 (D-ABEB)

We arrived at 8.45am at DUS. First we went to the LH ticket counter to pick up our tickets. We got them very quick, than we went straight to the check in which was also quick and friendly. After a few minutes in the internet cafe (a.net Big grin) we had to pass the security check to drink a few of the very delicious coffees that LH offers for free on their gates, than we board the plane, our seats were 6A and 6B. After the crew welcomes us and after the security announcement, the captain told us that our flying time to Berlin will be less than one our. Take off was on time, after 20 min. the cabin crew start to serve drinks. The crew must hurry because descent started a few minutes later. At 10.35am we touched down at Tegel airport. Less than 5 min. later we take the bus to downtown Berlin.

LH1699 TXL-FRA A321-100 (D-AIRF)

After an exciting day in our capital we arrived by bus at Tegel airport. After we had dinner in the airport restaurant owned by LH partner LSG (good airport owerview from the restaurant), we went through the security check to gate 9 to board our plane to FRA. 15 minutes before boarding time, the ground crew told us that our plane will arrive 30 minutes later because of heavy snowfall at FRA. After intensive using the famous LH coffee automat, we boarded our plane 45 min. later, than we took off for FRA. After 25 min. the VERY friendly crew start to serve drinks. We had an ice cold Beck`s. During we chat and enjoy our beer, the first officer interrupted our talk by a microphone announcement. He told the passengers that only one runway at FRA is in use because of continuing heavy snowfalls there. After we fly 55 min. circles ower FRA we touched down at Rhein-Main airport and taxi to gate A14.
Than we went to the bar at gate 13 and had a beer. The location of the bar was perfect because our plane to DUS started at the same gate.

LH234 FRA-DUS A320-200 (D-AIPS)

We boarded the plane 30 min. later. The flight was fully booked, we had seat 12A and 12B. The crew welcomes us and a few minutes later the captain told us that our delay will continue because of an deiceing procedure. We taxied to a special position on the apron and two trucks started to spray a green liquid on all wings of the aircraft, 5 minutes later we started to taxi to runway 18. At rwy 18 we had to wait in a long queue, we watched the take off roll of the All Nippon Airlines flight to Tokio with 744 (very impressive with all the snow on the runway). Behind us was a Lufthansa CRJ and a South African 743 waiting, more planes we can`t see because of the darkness and the heavy snowfall. Take off was very powerfull. During the entire flight we had heavy turbulences, the seat belt sings flashed all the flight long. After 35 minutes we start to approach DUS in tight clouds and very heavy crosswinds. We saw that a lot of passengers where afaid because of the hard weather conditions. Seconds before touchdown a heavy crosswind hit our plane again and we where sure that the pilot won`t perform a touch down and try it again in a few minutes but we touched down safety, it was a very anxious flight but a great experience.

Since yesterday we changed our opinion about LH (especially Sabena332 was about the good service). All crews yesterday where friendly, polite and competent. And the coffee that LH offers at their gates for free is one of the best we`ve ever taste (see picture below).

Very interesting report.
Was this again the 272DM offer ? So connecting is possible when there are no nonstop flights, right ?

Yes Gmonney, this trip was just for fun but the main reason that we`ve flown was that we had collect the additional 3000 miles within this year.

737-700, unfortunately it was not a 272 DM offer, but at this time we didn`t care about the price because the miles were more important for us.

The morning flight from DUS to TXL was booked out. Only on the flight from TXL to FRA I saw approx. 15-20 empty seats in Economy.

I am booked on a LH fare from Australia to Europe and to take advantage of the A$80 (approx 40 Euro) coupons we can get on LH european flights, I am doing a few domestic flights.

I will do FRA-MUC-FRA-HAM (after arriving ADL-SIN (SQ) then SIN-FRA (LH 744)) then HAM-BRU. On my way home I simply do BRU-FRA-SIN-MEL (last leg codeshare on SQ).

Are meals served on these domestic flights? I have booked them especially so I can fly the A310 and A300-600 for the first time before these planes disappear!

Any comments on LH's domestic, european and longhaul service would be appreciated

There are no meals served on domestic flights in Y. If you are booked in C then you'll get a sandwich.

On European flights you'll get normally a snack in C and Y (esp. on the morning and evening flights).

Yes, that`s funny on LH flights within Germany, if you booked in C you sit on the same seats like passengers in Y, the only advantage is that you get a sandwich and double miles but is a sandwich and double miles it worth to pay 200 Euro more ???

cool trip report. Sounds as you had amazing flights with Lufthansa. I came back from a wonderful amsterdam flight yesterday with Crossair.
