I’m going to make this short and sweet about my first trip on Turkish Airways:

Leaving Cairo, I wasn’t planning on doing a full trip report since there have been several good reports about the new T3 at CAI and since I was leaving at 3:50am, I knew I wanted to sleep on all my flights rather than take pictures. Thus, I’ll just make some comments about the onboard service.

On the CAI-IST sector, we flew what looked like a relatively new A320 and we were served a small but filling snack of sorts. The load on this flight was around 70% full in Y
-------------
Plum Cake

Turkey, Ham, and Cheese Toast
Grilled Red Pepper and Sauteed Spinach

Assorted Cheese
-------------
The little hot sandwiches were a little soggy on the bottom but still very delicious and the spinach had the perfect amount of seasoning. The cake was moist, vegetables crisp and the bread served warm.

Once we arrived in IST, we had to transfer through a special transit area for the JFK, ORD, and TLV flight before we were allowed to go upstairs to the gates. It was a little disorganized but didn’t take too long. Once up on the departures level, I found a place to nap. A few hours later after napping, eating and walking around, I went to my gate. Once on board the plane I was pleasantly surprised how nice the cabin was. From other pictures I wasn’t a huge fan of the blue color TK uses but in person it’s very nice. I was also surprised by the seat pitch and recline of the seats…both were very generous which made this long flight bearable. From what I saw, it looked like the load in Y was around 85-90% full

About half an hour after takeoff, the F/As got to work and then passed out menus, headphones and amenity kits (which included socks, an eye mask, earplugs, toothbrush and toothpaste, and lip balm). A quick round of drinks were served and then about half an hour later dinner was served.
--------------------

Shepherd Salad, Herbed Feta Cheese, Humus, Spicy Tomato Paste

Grilled Chicken with demi-glace sauce, parmesan polenta, and sautéed vegetables
OR
Grilled Salmon, mixed begetables, potato puree

Nougat Mousse
---------------------
This meal was amazing. The chicken and vegetables were perfectly cooked, and the sides were all very fresh and delicious. The absolute best part was that I was able to use METAL utensils and nothing was served in a plastic container! With the perfect amount and quality of food served, I think TK catering in Y might be better than what I’ve had on AF! After the trays were collected, I fell asleep for a solid 6 hours. There were (relatively) big sandwiches and cake available in the back before the second service, but I slept through it.

Somewhere over Canada, with about 3 hours left in the flight, a second meal was served.
----------------------
Yougurt with Cucumber
Turkish style Minced beef, seasonal vegetables, potato gratin
Cheesecake
----------------------
Yet again, the food was delicious. I’ve never been full from an airline meal before and this certainly did it!

All in all, I think TK is my new favorite airline. The entire onboard service including F/As, food, entertainment (the movie selection this month wasn’t that good but the system was still nice), etc. was superb. I really wish I was flying them back!

Sorry again if you think this is too brief! I'd be happy to anwser any questions you might have!

Thanks for the report.
How did you find and book your fare?
What was the schedule during transfer? How many hours did you have to sleep at IST?
How was it?

It's really not that bad in person. I like it.

My former company booked in on Expedia.

The layover in Istanbul was about five and a half hours. I only slept maybe two.

Thanks for the report. It seems like TK has refreshed their long haul YCL meals which is nice. That amenity kit is also generous.

Saludos,
Alex
