Trip report from our London trip with SAS Scandinavian Airlines.
Traveling out from Tromsø instead of my home airport Alta because we had a week vacation and wanted to visit family in Tromsø.
My sister also joined us on this trip.
The fares from Tromsø to London was 2500 with Norwegian and 2800 with SAS. Of course we opted for SAS Since it is our carrier of choice.
We went very early to the airport and to my big surprise I saw a lot of smoke coming from the parkinglot. Grabbed my camera
and took a look and there was a car on fire Shot some pictures!
Tromsø Airport early morning in November. -5 degrees and no wind.
There is no snow yet, and it's getting frustrating. Southern norway is bathing in snow right now and they dont even want it! We do.
Allright, I went to the self service check in and printed our boarding card and bag tags.
Dropped it at the bagdrop. 2kg overweight,
but the nice lady wished us a nice flight. I got to use my finger id at arrival so no paper work boarding the plane.

Went trough security, no problem.
There he is, Vingolf Viking. Delivered to SAS Braathens in 2002 new.

The downside to european flights with SAS is that you have to pay for coffee and tea.
Boarding was 20 minutes prior to take off.

My window was frozen so few pictures from the flight! Also we did fly over water most of the time, so no big deal.
Calm and great flight, and nice landing at Heathrow.
Aircraft at gate.
London Heathrow
This was as always a pleasant flight with SAS.
Went to passport control, but the lady did'nt even look at my passport!
To collect our baggage that came 10 min later.
Took the Tube to our hotel. No free seats so we had to stand the whole way. But ok!
we spent the days in London shopping, sightseeing and drinking coffee at Starbucks
For the return flight we went to Sallisbury station and took the Heathrow Express train.
A lot faster than the tube.
Then went to Terminal 4 and spotted the self service check inn. Printed our boarding card and bagtags. And dropped it at bagdrop.
Trough security, and we were in the waiting area at the Airport 15 min after arriving with train. Nice in deed.
Got something to drink before i got a text message from SAS: Our plane is delayed. Damn!
So we got 40min extra to kill at the airport. Used the last pund and just waited until the flight gate was given.
SAS Check in
Inside terminal 4
After 50 min delay the gate was given, and we could go trough boarding, and to the waiting area at gate 3A.
Another 10 min before we boarded the plane, so time to do some spotting

Ok, off we go. Leaving London and UK. Heading home to Norway there was a lot of turbulence, so the seatbelt sign was on during parts of the flight.
Closing in on Oslo it was getting darker.
Nice landing and taxing to the terminal.
Deboarded the plane from the back door.
At gate
Went to collect our baggage and drag it trough custom. Delivered at the bagdrop and went trough security.

Did'nt have time to eat because of the late arrival, So we went to our gate and hung around until the boarding was announced.

Up we go. Calm flight today.
Went for the tea choice. Always nice tea onboard SAS flights! I wounder what kind they use.

Another good experience with SAS, but the delayed flight from London was boring. It's so unlikely to have a delayed flight with SAS.

Hello(!),
Just to say many thanks for the trip report etc. Was cool to see the route having only flown to Oslo (Torp) with Ryanair myself. Would be cool to head up North though and Oslo Gardermoen looks like a really nice airport (and they have free internet too).
Anyway merci again for the report and looks like you had a pretty nice time in England/London too.

Hi,
thanks for the interesting report, and pictures were of good quality too!
Good to see SK performing well on the early domestic run, free breakfast, and judging from the image a good one indeed Way to go!
But it's a real shame to have SK serving nothing on their Euro-Y-class product. Not even a free cookie or so. If this is the way to obtain the 'real' costsaving for an airline... I sometimes wonder if they couldn't do savings elsewhere. For connections, and the mileage programm SK would also be my choice, but otherwise Norwegian can also get my business.
Regards,
Eric

Hi Egil,
Good report with some great photo's! I havn't been back to Norway since the new airport opened at Oslo but hope to get a couple of days there later this year.
On the photo of your aircraft at Oslo on your return trip I've noticed that some of the ramp area has no snow at all but a lot of the surrounding ramp area has, is there heating under the tarmac to keep this clear & to make it a better working area in the winter snow?

Quoting Egilsml (Thread starter): We went very early to the airport and to my big surprise I saw a lot of smoke coming from the parkinglot. Grabbed my camera

Geez - that's a little scary! Not something you see everyday! The fire department looks like they had yet to show up, not that they could do anything to save this car. Still that is kind of an odd way to start your trip!
Great trip report! Your sister - I assume that is her in several of the pictures - looks like she wants none of your TR business! She looks slightly annoyed, or at least not understanding, of your obsession of taking photos of aircraft and airports! Oh well, too bad for her if that is the case!
Quoting Airbuseric (Reply 9): Those SAS interiors look quite dated, I'm sure its down to the cloth seat covers.
Hi Mark. Actually the seats was not that bad

Hi Eric. Yeah, its a real shame on European flight contra domestic flight's. Indeed they could serve free coffee or tea at least.

Hi Dave. This is quite common in Norway, or at least Northern Norway. Heating the surrounding ramp area and a lot of the stores has it to. So they don't have to remove the snow 24/7. And so the people don't fall and break something when they enter a store.

Hi Richierich. The blond one is my girlfriend in the pictures. She is getting used that i am taking photos of everything and she don't care any more! In the beginning she was annoyed but now she let me do my business.
