This trip was taken in October 1999

Woke up around 0600 on OCT 2nd 1999 really excited for my first trip to Australia.

My Grandparents picked Dad and I up at around 0645.
My mum, sister and Auntie went 3 days earlier!

ETD: 0900
ATD: 0920ish
ETA: 1020
ATA: 1025ish
Aircraft: 747-400
FLT #: 131

Arrived at the airport around 0710 for the 0900 departure and went to checkin lines were quite long but check in was quick, went upstairs to the veiwing deck about 0740 for afew minutes to look at the aircraft can't remember much other than seeing ZK-NBT right infront of me at gate 2 and another NZ744 and some 767's. Went back down stairs about 0800 and cleared customs and security at about 0800 no problems. Looked around afew shops for a while then headed down to gate 2 an NZ 744 parked either side of me on gates 1 and 2 .
Boarding commenced at about 0840 I boarded about 0850 the aircraft was quite full, can't remember my seat number although I was in the middle row of economy on the right hand side of the aircraft with an isle seat towards the back of the aircraft. Captain came on the PA and welcomed us aboard annonced that we would be flying to Sydney rather than Brisbane LOL! Corrected it later! Cabin crew performed the safety demonstration mainly young females.

Pushback was a little late at about 0920 we taxied down to rwy23 I saw several domestic aircraft and if I remember correctly a stored NZ 742 in the old colours.
Didn't stop at the holding point taxied straight around and lined up I remember been thrown back in my seat as we powered on quite an awesome feeling, and after a shortish takeoff roll we were airborne. Flying time was 3hrs. We climbed straight out for a while before banking to the right and heading over the Tasman sea weather was cloudy and visibility was low. The seat belt sign came off after about 10-15 mins. Breakfast was served at about 1000 NZ time can't remember what it was but I didn't complain, drinks were on offer throughout the flight so not a problem with thristyness.
Read the inflight magazines.
Got up once during the flight to go to the toilet and looked out the window great to look at the wings on the 744. (my favourite aircraft) Captain came on the PA system and announced that we were decending into BNE we made a steep decent for our landing on rwy01 I think, landed at about 1025 BNE time, so even though we departed late we made it into BNE early. The taxi back to the terminal seemed to take for ever we pulled in between I think MH and SQ 777's also saw Royal Bruni
767 BA 744 and several QF aircraft.
We deplaned picked up our luggage and my mum, sister and auntie picked us up.

Overall it was a good flight and I will fly Air NZ again in the future hopefully this year!

Enjoy reading and I will post the return report if you guys would like me to!  Smile

Thanks Mikey! I'll post the return sometime this week!
Are you going to Fifa 2002 in Japan and Korea?

Just checked KE's website and if it's right your flight will be on a 772 the last KE744 from Nadi is on FEB28 they will operate the non-stops though until MAR30.

I want to go somewhere far away in the NZ winter Asia or Europe not exactly sure yet.

Scott.  Smile

Hi mikey

I'll be flying AirNZ down to Nadi in March too, but probably closer to the end. How long are you staying? I'll be flying from London, first to Australia, then Auckland then Nadi, and should be there around the 27th or so.

Cheers, Zac
