Hello!

Welcome to my sixth tripreport. A few months after my Berlin trip, I started getting a little restless and wanted to go out and fly again. I decided very soon that it would be Vienna. I've been to Austria 5-6 times and I like it and the Austrians  And not to forget, the Sacher cake  Moreover, I have never flown to Austria and I have long wanted to fly with Austrian Airlines.

So, a month before I booked my trip with departure date the 19th of October and home again the 23th. Since I take every chance to fly, I naturally wanted to fly from my home airport-Karlstad. From here we have two scheduled destinations, Stockholm-Arlanda and Copenhagen-Kastrup. Austrian tickets from Copenhagen was cheaper so I decided to ride from CPH. In addition I had the opportunity to fly the Saab 340 to CPH which I haven´t flown with for many years, and I like the Saab better than the Fokker 50, which operates the Stockholm traffic.

At 04:15 my alarmclock rang on the morning the 19th and I took a taxi to the airport where I arrived at 05:30. My flight departed 06.10.
Check-in was quick and I went straight to the gate and sat down with the morning paper. the boarding started at 05.55. We were greethed at the door by a young F/A that I had never flown with before. Boarding was quick, 19 people on board. The door was closed and our F/A started the safety demo. A short taxi to runway 21. We took-off 6.28 to the south and quickly climbed to our cruising altitude, 20 000 feet. We flew southwest passing Gothenburg and than over the westcoast of southern Sweden.

Continued from above

After having spent almost three hours at Kastrup we went to the gate. When we arrived the screens showed delayed because of technical problems. Apparently a service vehicle had ran into the plane!   An hour passed without any information. I noticed that the aircraft's pilots were outside the plane and took photos on the damage. We found out later that there was not a suitable technician at Kastrup so they have too send pictures of the damage to a technician in Vienna.
The technician in Vienna could not at first decide if we were allowed to fly or not but after some time he given the pilot the permission to fly back to Vienna. Most of the passenger was travelling further from Vienna so some went hysterical. The gate agent sad that she couldn´t do anything since she represented SAS, so if someone missed their connections the should contact Austrin in Vienna.
Some passengers did not wait at the gate so they walked away. So when the boarding started their were people missing!   Finally, after some 15-20 minutes the missing people showed up. After being delayed a second time everyone was on board and we could get on our way to Vienna two hours late.

A Easyjet A319 and a Emirates B777.

When we had pick up our luggage and come into the arrival hall maybe 50-60 of our co-travellers ran into Austrians service center. It was really fun, I could see panic in the Austrian staff

In Vienna we stayed at the Mariott in central Vienna, it was FABULOUS!

Hope you like it! Feel free to comment!

You are a happy boy! Well, if you travel this way, let me tell you, this is NOT OS!

You might get a OS Sandwich and an OS flight-nummer- but the a/c still has the original plush design by former Lauda owner and CEO Niki Lauda (and was even used on flights from Austria to the Maledives!). So leather seating, wooden bulk-heads, inflight entertainment etc.! Hope you enjoyed this ride!

The pics and videos are good.

Pity about the long delay.

Interesting that the flight time from CPH to VNA is about the same as from Geneva. But the fares from GVA are high as OS is the only airline operating the route.

I am going to VNA in April but unfortunately I cannot pick the hotel. We have to go where they send us. If you have the time could you post a few pics of VNA? Great report. Loved the SAAB video. The noise of the propellers is great to listen to.

Hey, parton87,

interesting story.
Been to CPH and VIE for several times, but that CPH-KSD leg on the Avitrans caught my attention.
Thats something I´am checking closer for the spring/summer months.
And further on to ARN on the Skyways F50, back to Germany on the well known SK 736 afternoon service to FRA.

Thanks for the details,
Markus (FLIEGER67)

You kidding? Did they use the 737 on such a long flight?

Hello! The Saab is great! But I love the 2000 better, have you fly with version? Not so common these days, sadly. I use to fly with the 2000 when scandinavian commuter use them before the Q400. It´s climb like a jet and cruise at nearly jetspeed.

Here som pictures from Vienna. It´s a great city, im going back in April, staying at the Mariott. The most beatiful hotel I ever stayed on. Hope your company choose it for you
