If I was them I would make sure I have something done about them. They are rude, impolite and above all like previously mentioned ignorant! They are the only reason why I have a bad memory from this trully enjoyable flight!

The three cabin crew we had were older. Never the less, I have to admit that out of my solid 100+ flights that I had in my life these guys have been the best so far! If anyone from Malév is reading this, or knows people in MA, I would kindly ask them to forward this to them. They have been kind, pleasant, warm and just so amazing. The guy (Gabor I believe his name is) was in the back with us, and as we were getting ready for take off the lights were dimmed. There was a long ride to the runway, and he noticed that this woman was reading a book when the lights went off. He came up to her and turned it on for her. He did that with the other few passengers later on, and once the boarding was complete he offered people to move to the empty seats in order to make their flight more comfortable! These guys with their warm smiles and attention have made this trip memorable! Bravo.

Jo reggelt Budapest!!

Conclusion:

To be honnest, Malév's product is nothing special when compared to Aegean (A3) or even Austrian (OS). Their food is average, and they have no special entertainment on their tv's, besides the One World propaganda. I believe that they need to remove their greek announcment, as it is a joke, you spend more time getting shiverrs from the horrible accent than actually paying attention! The crew should also have a higher level of English!
However, the planes are very clean with great legroom, and the cabin crew is amazing! Even on the flight to Belgrade later on, one of the cabin crew was just as nice and attentive! The feeling of hospitality you come across in Malév makes you want to fly on them again. Something I must admit is lacking in carriers such as OS, LH, LO...

I would give them: 7/10!
- negative side:
- poor entertainment
- average meals
- horrible, horrible handling agents (rude idiots!)

-positive side:
- new airplanes
- amazing crew
- prices
- legroom

Also, it was nice to fly on the same plane (HA-LOS) that oppened the Budapest-Belgrade route after two decades!!

Hope that you have enjoyed my third tr, all comments are more than welcome!!

That was a nice report...
Don't hear too much about Malev, and I noticed they were doing amazing fares this year, especially out to Larnaca...
The flight times out seem really antisociable, though a little better than CZ Airlines!

Thanks...Well their fares are good to Larnaca, but out of Larnaca they are not that cheap... Just to Budapest a return ticket is somewhere around 250 euros. But lets say if I flew from Belgrade to Larnaca, I could have found tickets costing around 99 euros!
Well the times are horrible I give you that, but they are good if you want to connect in Budapest... But trust me any connection longer than 1h30min in that non-Schengen zone is hell!

I only know the old terminal at Larnaca and the check in areas were not very nice. This new Terminal is paradise.

As to LH crews I have always found them very friendly. I don't know about LO or OS but I will be going with OS in April. Loved your report. Very interesting.

LOL I don't think the hostesses are all that old; mid 30s? They actually have a somewhat matronly look.

Well I think Lufthansa its either paradise or hell! I have had some great experience with them and some...ahem...
OS used to be much better, now they tend to have attitude but of course there are a lot of nice ones- just not as much.

The new Larnaca terminal opened in november, the old one was closed. It's so sad when you taxi to the runway you pass right next to the old airport and its so sad to see it there in the dark.

Very nice report. Flew with Malev once before and yes that airport connection in Budapest was not great. Otherwise the flight itself and services were great.

Nice report & pictures, thanks for sharing.

I've never flown to LCA so not seen the old terminal, however the new one looks pretty impressive, though from you pictues, not great for plane spotters landside.

Well I am a Serbian citizen, and all Serbian citizens have been placed on white Schengen, meaning that they don't need a visa for any country in the Schengen zone for up to 90 days (Romania, Bulgaria and Cyprus included)- so basically EU without the UK and Ireland. Anyway, there were 4 check-ins, one for Business Class and three for economy. That guy who was passing in the plane, had some problems with some Hungarians and their id cards, so for about 35 to 45 minutes his check in was closed, there was one where it wrote Malév but there was no one, and the last one where we came. So, I came up to her and she started to look for my Schengen visa, or as she said you Hungarian visa, I told her that we don't need visas bla bla...
So this young girl needed to ask her boss if this was true, and he was sitting on some check-in bit further away talking to some Syrian guy, looking at his papers. So we were standing there for 15 minutes waiting for him, and blocking the whole crowd (since those Hungarians were still there), so I told her to go and ask him it will take a few seconds, as the same thing happened to when I flew Aegean the previous week. She told us that she can not and that we have to wait. A friend of mine who was exhausted as it was already passed 02:30 went up to him and told him that we have an issue and that we are blocking the whole check-in and that he just needs to tell her that I don't need a visa.
This is where it all begun. He looked up and turned to the girl at the check in and told hee the following in a very rude way with a very unpleasant tone: 'Can't you see that I am busy here?! I don't care about anything just move them from the check in and keep doing the rest of the pax'...
Completely ignoring my friend as if she wasn't there. Typical middle aged attitude of Cypriots to girls, she is only worth talking to if I can get something out of it. That is why I got so pissed off. So she told us to remove my bag from the stand and to move, natrally I refused as it is not my problem they are not capable of doing their work as its supposed to be. We started arguing, and finally to not make a problem for the rest I removed my bag and waited. He came at the end after 20 minutes, and the first thing he told me: You need to have more patience you know!
I wasn't in the mood to argue, I just told him that I will not sink to his level took my passport and he actually told us to go to the line and wait again.
But the nice girl that was working on the Business Class called us and checked me in. At the end she even told me the following: I am so sorry for all of this!

So her saying that she is sorry kind of made it a bit easier, but still I felt like murdering those two morons, and mind you when we left- that guy was still arguing with the Hungarians! But I saw them in the plane later on, so it was all ok.
What I do not understand, I had a similar problem with the Cypriot police when I came back, how on earth don't they know such a thing when Jat flies 5 times a week from Belgrade. The Hungarian policeman told me on arrival to Budapest: Nem visza, very good, welcome!

There we go

I do agree with you, but just because all the airlines are doing it, doesn't mean Malév has to as well. But I do understand what you are saying, but those two can easily be fixed.

wow, what a great airport in LCA! I've been there 3 years ago, I arrived at 2 am with LH from FRA and honestly their airport was a dump. Everything so old, Loved the rental car counters. when we flew back the waiting lounges were also very bad. and of course no chance to board through a jetway.

Honestly, the new terminal looks fantastic and was terribly needed. What have they done with the old one?

The old one is just sitting there in the dark, since it's on the other side of the runway it's not really that visible. They have constructed a new road to the airport, so unless you are coming from Larnaca, you will not see it.
As far as the lounges go, they have new ones, and even Lufthansa has its own lounge that is open at time when they and the other Star alliance members fly, so in Larnaca that is them, Austrian and Lot. Aegean has its own as well, at least that is what I saw in their magazine.
The new airport has both options either to use the jetway or you go a level down and take the bus, in a way a bit like Frankfurt airport... You can actually see the parking spots on the picture 4 and 5, they are parked in the back.

Since I flew from Larnaca to Budapest and didn't mention anything about the handling agents in Budapest during my connection in the trip report to Belgrade, means that I was referring to the ones in Larnaca...
Sorry didn't know some people wouldn't assume the obvious, guess some people need some 'special' and additional explanation!
Guess that the other 2000+ readers didn't see it in such a way so...

Thats what you said! I wouldnt have said anything but handling Malev here in DUB such a qoute can be taken personally.

I dont need a ''special'' or additional explanation! What an idiotic thing to say when cleary what you said is Malevs handling agents are the worst and most uneducated people in the world.

Dont want to fight, just want to clear things up, and the other 2000+ wont have said anything becsue they wont have worked with Malev. I doubt they care.

What part of the 'malév's handling agents in Cyprus' don't you understand?
This trip report was about the new Larnaca airport and everything about it, so naturally all that is mentioned in it is related to Cyprus/Larnaca.

And that guy, just like the rest of them there were a bunch of incompetent ignorant idiots, and like I did say, they all were with the exception of the girl working on the Business Class desk!
Generally the people who work there (that is Larnaca airport, so that you don't get offended and to make that clear) are ignorant, once this girl on Aegean told me that she is not so sure if I can get miles on that flight because they are not Star Alliance; Jat allows you 30 kilos in economy, but she was arguing with me some time ago that it's not the case but only for business until we called the superivsor and he told her, anyway there are so many of these that happened to my family, friend and me...
The only ones who are decent from the ones I have flown with, are naturally Emirates!

I do not know the handling agents at Dublin for Malév (when they used to fly) but when I went there twice, I was more than happy with the ones working for Lufthansa! But then again I think it has to do more with the Irish mentality...

Big time, however they are not as bad as in Greece or Italy, probably due to the fact that they had the Brits here so they passed them at least some discipline lol
You can see the climax if you go to the Immigration office in Nicosia, located in the old general hospital! Now that place should be put in the tourist brochure of Cyprus!
I have to go to the Non-Eu offices, and that is always so much 'fun', I never spend less than 3,5 hours in there!

Until they started to execute them   The whole thing about things being better in Cyprus than Greece is a myth. I have travelled to all parts of Cyprus numerous times and like in Greece it depends on who you are dealing with. Plenty of lazy Cypos also.

Oh big time, a friend of mine is a policewoman (if that word exists) and for some time she used to be at the new Larnaca airport. The reason why she left was because they were not allowed to sit at any time, they didn't have network for their phones (in the level under the terminal building) and they were under constant supervision...
Now she works as a guard at the embassy of two middle eastern countries, and she loves it as she has to sit the whole day and be payed by the government of those countries, and according to her they pay three times more than the Cy government (which pays very well!)!
Some might say that that is only one example, but whoever has been to Cyprus will know that it's not!
